Chapter 141 Arrived as promised

As soon as Lu An Ning came out of the ward, Tang Jingyuan came to greet her, held her hand and walked towards the elevator without asking any questions.

Lu Anning was silent all the way. From time to time, he looked up at the person beside him and wondered, "Aren't you curious? Why should I help her?"

She was not a saint, but at that moment she suddenly remembered herself in the past, and she knew that kind of despair very well. She could not get over this hurdle in her heart, and she still could not abandon Lu Yunxi.

Compared to herself, she seemed to be even more miserable as she was sent to the old man's bed by her own mother.

"But I saved a poor man, so there's nothing much to ask. Are you hungry? Go get something to eat?"

Lu Anning smiled: "Will you accompany me to eat at a roadside stall?"

"Okay." Tang Jingyuan himself didn't realize that he now almost agreed to Lu Anning's every request. The two of them walked together, and they seemed much closer than those who went from love to marriage.

Lu Anning no longer worried about whether she loved him or not. She only knew that she was happy at the moment.

Lu Yunxi promised to help her retrieve the agarwood token, but Lu Anning was still skeptical. She hadn't told Tang Jingyuan about it yet, lest she get too excited. She even told herself not to remember it. It was good enough that Lu Yunxi didn't repay kindness with hatred, but if she had to turn her back on her, there was nothing she could do.

When he saved her, Lu An Ning never thought of using this as an excuse to negotiate terms with her.

The next week was calm, and she would occasionally hear bad news about the Lu Group. All the problems were exposed, and there was no way to save them.

There was no movement from Lu Yunxi, so Lu Anning no longer expected anything.

Just when she thought Lu Yunxi had put the incident behind her, she suddenly received a call from Lu Yunxi, asking her to meet.

"I got what you wanted. Please find some time so we can meet."

Lu Anning's breathing stagnated, and he tightened his grip on the phone: "Are you telling the truth?"

Lu Yunxi's sarcastic laughter came from my ears: "It seems that I have no credibility in your heart. I said that I would give you what you want. Don't you want it anymore?"

Lu Anning was hardly excited and tried to make his tone sound calmer.

"Where are you? I'm coming to find you!"

Lu Anning didn't care that she was still at work. She grabbed her bag and walked out, while contacting Xiang Yang to ask for leave.

She seemed unconcerned, but in reality, she still wanted to know the answer. She had once thought there was no trace left, so she had given up on the idea. Now that she knew she still had an object to cherish, how could she not want to take it back?

I took a taxi to the shopping mall where Lu Yunxi had agreed to meet me. She was waiting in the coffee shop.

Seeing Lu Anning's eyes full of expectation, Lu Yunxi curled her lips: "Do you think that I have forgotten about this, or that I don't want to admit it at all?"

Lu Anning smiled and said, "It doesn't matter what I think. The fact is, you kept your promise."

"You really care about this agarwood plaque. And right! When I first found out that my biological parents were someone else, I was just like you, full of expectations. But I didn't expect that life after returning home would not be what I had imagined. Lu Anning, aren't you worried that your biological family will not be what you imagined? What will you do then?"

Lu Anning frowned: "I haven't thought about it that much."

"I'm a living example! What if I return to my biological parents? I'm still treated as an object, used by them for exchange. Or perhaps the family the sign leads you to is far more deplorable than you imagined. Aren't you afraid that such relatives will drag down your current life?"

Lu Anning was stumped by the question. She just wanted to get the wooden sign back first and didn't think about anything else for the time being.

She also never said that she must recognize her biological parents after finding them. She just wanted to know why they abandoned her in the orphanage.

Lu Anning stared at Lu Yunxi's face closely, feeling puzzled.

"Do you know something?"

Lu Yunxi's eyes dodged: "I'm just reminding you kindly. I'm the best example. Whether you listen or not is up to you. Everything is here, take a look for yourself."

Lu Yunxi took out a brocade box and a worn notebook from her bag. A folded page on it contained the details of her time in the orphanage, including the exact time.

Lu Anning opened it carefully and could faintly smell a sweet and cool fragrance, like a clear spring in the mountains, sweet to the heart.

In the square box was an ancient wooden plaque. On the front was engraved a benevolent and generous Buddha, and on the back was her birth date. The last signature was her current name, An Ning.

Lu Yunxi smiled and said, "This is made of the finest agarwood, priceless in the market. You helped me that day, so I looked it up for you. This is the address of the woman who sent you to the orphanage. From now on, I won't owe you anything."

Lu Yunxi left the address and left, leaving Lu Anning staring at the address for a long time.

It's a woman!

What is this woman's relationship to me? Could she be my biological mother?

The note slipped between her fingers, and as the answer seemed within reach, she felt a surge of fear. She was afraid the answer she'd get wouldn't be what she wanted.

She sat alone in the coffee shop for a long time before leaving, the wooden sign tightly clutched in her palm, all sorts of possibilities running through Lu Anning's mind. At the entrance of the mall, she hailed a taxi and handed the driver the address on the note.

"Send me to this place!"

Lu Anning took a deep breath and took this step.

The taxi slowly drove away and stopped in a white car on the side of the road. Lu Yunxi pulled the baseball cap on her head to cover her face as much as possible, started the car without hesitation and followed.
