Chapter 203 Opportunity for Compensation
"Sir, Madam, the dishes are ready. Do you want to start cooking now?"
Aunt Liu is over fifty years old. She has her hair tied up at the back of her head and wears an apron, a blue cotton jacket, and black trousers. She looks honest and simple, with a standard oval face and a very friendly smile.
"Okay, I'll go with you, Xiao Mi, let Jingchen take you upstairs to rest."
Xia Mi followed Huo Jingchen upstairs. There were three rooms upstairs, and Huo Jingchen's was the innermost one.
Huo Jingchen pushed open the door and found that his room was different from what he remembered. The bed was much bigger, and the desk and other things had been replaced with new ones. There was even a TV in the room.
He frowned, "Why is there still a TV? Is it obsolete and you are using my room as a warehouse?"
Xia Mi walked over and found that it was indeed old. She tried to press the switch, and the TV screen suddenly lit up, and soon the TV picture appeared on the screen.
This is still a black and white TV. Thinking about the other TV downstairs, I think the black and white one should be replaced with a color one.
"It's also good to watch TV in the evening." Xia Mi turned off the TV. She had never watched TV of this era.
There is nothing wrong with this black and white TV except that the screen is small.
"Go wash up first. There is hot water in the toilet. It's at the end of the corridor." Huo Jingchen didn't insist. He squatted down and opened his bag.
Xia Mi nodded and walked over to take the clothes in her hands.
Having not showered for two days, the train was stinking. Xia Mi could no longer bear it and told Huo Jingchen on the train that the first thing she would do after getting off the train was to wash her hair and take a shower.
New towels as well as slippers and a hairdryer were provided.
Xia Mi was blowing her hair with an old-fashioned hair dryer. The hot air passed through her hair and sprayed onto her fingertips. The temperature was high, so her hair dried quickly.
After drying his hair, Huo Jingchen returned to the room, wearing a white vest and steaming hot.
"Why don't you take all your clothes over? Aren't you afraid of catching a cold when you're wearing so little?" Xia Mi put down the hair dryer.
Huo Jingchen's flesh was scalded red by the hot water. He frowned in confusion, "Don't you think the water is very hot?"
"I don't think so. Do you think it's hot?" Xia Mi hesitated for a moment and thought about the temperature of the water. It was indeed not hot, just right for her.
Xia Mi sat on the chair and smelled a faint scent of wood as soon as she sat down. She lowered her eyes and touched the dressing table. She was surprised that even a dressing table was bought.
Huo Jingchen said nothing, but the look in his eyes when he looked at Xia Mi changed.
Because they have a car, dinner tonight is at eight o'clock. It's already six o'clock now. Xia Mi calculated that if she took a break, she could still rest for an hour.
You can't just let your mother-in-law say she doesn't need help and then really sleep until all the elders arrive.
She lay on the bed in her pajamas, her body sinking slightly, and she couldn't help but sigh, "Your bed is so soft."
Huo Jingchen wiped the water off his head with a towel. The buzz cut dried quickly. He wiped it a few times and then lay down on the bed.
I just took a hot shower and all the pores on my body were opened by the hot water, which indirectly magnified my fatigue.
Xia Mi fell asleep within a minute of her head touching the pillow.
Huo Jingchen raised his eyes and saw the peaceful sleeping posture of the person next to him. The corners of his lips rose unconsciously. He couldn't help but move closer, putting his hand on Xia Mi's waist, shortening the distance between them.
When Xia Mi opened her eyes again, it was pitch black outside and she could hear the sound of lively conversations downstairs.
She woke up suddenly and sat up, and the room was plunged into darkness.
The people next to her were awakened by her movements. Huo Jingchen sat up with Xia Mi, worried that she was having a nightmare.
"What's wrong?"
Xia Mi raised her hand to look at the watch and found that it was already half past seven. It was time for dinner in half an hour, but she had just woken up.
"You got up late. Didn't you set the alarm? Why didn't it go off?"
Xia Mi threw back the quilt and the cold air hit her, it was so freezing that she lost all her sleepiness.
Huo Jingchen glanced at the alarm clock that Xia Mi had blown to the ground and said, "It's probably broken because it hasn't been used for too long."
"Don't worry, it's not time for dinner yet. We've been on the train for so long, it won't be a problem if we take a break. The elders will understand."
Seeing her so panicked that she was putting on her clothes in the dark, Huo Jingchen reached out and pressed the switch, and the room instantly became bright.
The light was too glaring; Xia Mi stopped buttoning her clothes and blocked the light with her hands.
"Don't sleep, come down with me."
Huo Jingchen obediently got out of bed and put on his clothes. The two of them moved quickly, and the whole process from getting up to leaving the room took no more than ten minutes.
Xia Mi had just reached the stairs when the conversation below gradually became clearer and louder.
Her heart was pounding, and it would be a lie to say she wasn't nervous.
As expected, they became the focus as soon as they came downstairs. The people sitting on the sofa all looked at them. Xia Mi estimated that there were ten people in total.
"This is Jingchen's wife. She's really pretty. Come here, kid, let us take a good look at her."
A woman sitting nearby waved at Xia Mi, motioning her to come over.
"This is my aunt. She has two children. She now works at the Municipal Finance Bureau. On her left is my uncle, and on her right are her two children, both younger than me. Sitting on the other side is my uncle's family."
Huo Jingchen lowered his voice and began to introduce Xia Mi to the relatives currently in the living room.
Xia Mi nodded slightly and walked towards Aunt Huo with a smile, "Hello, Aunt, my name is Xia Mi, you can call me Xiao Mi."
After saying that, Xia Mi looked at her uncle next to her, "Is this my uncle?"
Uncle Huo was stunned. "It seems that Jingchen has done homework for you in advance."
"The main reason is that my aunt and uncle look like a couple, you can tell at a glance."
"You are not only beautiful, but also very good-looking." Aunt Huo laughed so hard that her eyes were invisible. She slapped her husband on the back and signaled him to give up his seat to Xia Mi. "Come, sit next to me."
"This is my younger brother, Jingchen's uncle..." Aunt Huo began to introduce the relationship between the members to Xia Mi.
Introduce one to someone and Xia Mi will greet him/her obediently.
"Aunt, have you forgotten about your nephew now that you have a niece-in-law?" Huo Jingchen interrupted the conversation and pulled Xia Mi up. "I'll chat with you. Let Xiao Mi go to the kitchen and take a look."
"Jingchen, this is your fault. How can you push your wife into the kitchen? You've been standing outside for so long, and you didn't even ask to go in and help your mother. Now you want to call Xiao Mi away?"
Aunt Huo's tone suddenly rose and she became serious.
Huo Jingchen felt very aggrieved. This was what Xia Mi had told her when she went downstairs. No matter whether she was working or not, she had to take a walk around the kitchen.
Now that he has become the bad guy, he has suddenly become the target of everyone's attack.
Xia Mi didn't expect the Huo family's reaction to be so big, nor did she expect her daughter-in-law to be so valued in the Huo family. She thought the Huo family would be very traditional.
"It's okay. I just want to go over and take a look. Jingchen, come with me."
Xia Mi quickly took over the conversation and looked at Huo Jingchen with an apologetic look.
Aunt Huo said a few words and then said nothing else.
The two walked side by side to the kitchen, Xia Mi lowered her voice, "I'm sorry for putting you through this."
Huo Jingchen snorted, "You have a chance to make it up to me."
