Chapter 17 It’s not easy to find a home
“Mom, why didn’t you tell me about this earlier?”
The second sister Huo Jinying stopped smiling instantly, realizing the seriousness of the matter and worried that something might happen to Jing Xiaoran.
The eldest brother Huo Jingting was the same, but he did not blame him.
"I have to send a telegram to Jingchen as soon as possible and ask him to pick her up. Xiaoran was so impulsive all of a sudden that she just left without caring about the trouble she might cause to others."
Zhao Min had a terrible headache and held her forehead helplessly.
"Xiao Ran has liked Jing Chen since she was a child. You all know that. Jing Chen came back a while ago, and Xiao Ran happened to be of marriageable age. She probably wanted to give it another try."
"Besides, she didn't know Jingchen got married suddenly."
Zhao Min watched Jing Xiaoran grow up following her youngest son, so naturally she liked this child.
However, she had noticed since junior high school that Jingchen had no interest in Xiaoran. On the contrary, when Xiaoran took the initiative to show her affection, Jingchen began to deliberately keep his distance.
It was only today that Zhao Min learned about Jing Xiaoran's visit.
"The point is not about Jing Xiaoran, but about Jingchen, that brat, not taking our family seriously. He said he wanted to get married, but he didn't even bring her back to meet him."
Huo Yanshan's face turned pale, and he was angry that his youngest son did not value this family.
Huo Jinying felt that the most urgent thing was to "send a telegram to inform Jingchen first, so that he can be mentally prepared. It's not easy for someone to want him. What if my sister-in-law is scared away later?"
"I'll go right away. It's really not easy for Jingchen to find a good home."
Huo Jingting stood up, looking imposing in his olive green military uniform.
Huo Jinying also stood up and said, "I'll go too. I'm going to write a letter and ask Jingchen to print a photo of my sister-in-law and send it back as a bookmark."
The two elderly people, Huo Yanshan and Zhao Min, were almost angered to death by the remarks made by their son and daughter.
Zhao Min closed her eyes in pain. How could she have given birth to these three rude people? Huo Yanshan was furious. "Sit down, everyone. Now is not the time for you to argue. Jingchen casually married a strange woman. As the eldest brother and sister, are you really not worried at all?"
Huo Yanshan even suspected that there was something wrong with his family education.
"Dad, don't you understand Jingchen's temper? Once he makes a decision, even ten oxen can't pull him back. Take the bet you made with him about Zhuifeng Island, for example. You bet for five years, and now six years have passed, and he still doesn't want to come back."
The daughter's words hit her father right in the throat.
Zhao Min saw her husband's face getting worse and worse, so she quickly called a halt, "That's enough, go send a telegram to Jingchen."
After his children left, Huo Yanshan covered his heart with his hands, feeling extremely angry.
"Look at your good children. Now they are more sharp-tongued than the other. The youngest one is still a donkey!"
Stubborn as hell.
Zhao Min was just about to comfort her husband, but after hearing this, her face suddenly changed and she slapped the man on the back.
"Huo Yanshan, this is because they inherited the bad genes from your Huo family. You dare to blame me? I will take the two children to change their names tomorrow, and then notify Jingchen to come back and change his surname!"
Seeing his wife's angry back, Huo Yanshan, who was very popular and had a lot of say, suddenly became depressed. -Xia Mi experienced a typhoon in person, and according to the eldest sister in the guesthouse, it was still a small one.
She slept in a daze all night, worried that the window would be blown open.
There was a strong wind outside, bringing with it rain. The rain hit the windows and the wind was whistling, making it impossible to fall asleep.
It was not until the rain stopped that Xia Mi fell asleep accompanied by the rustling sound of the rain outside.
Even the reveille failed to wake her up today.
Huo Jingchen walked out of the rain wearing a raincoat and holding an umbrella.
"Captain Huo, you are here to deliver food to Comrade Xia in such heavy rain." Aunt Lanhua quickly picked up the thermos and poured two cups of hot water. "There was a lot of noise here last night, and Comrade Xia hasn't woken up yet. How about putting the food in the kitchen?"
Huo Jingchen took off his raincoat and hung it outside, his black boots were covered in mud.
"Okay, thank you for your help." He put down the lunch box and his eyes moved in the direction of Xia Mi's room.
Huo Jingchen put his things away, opened his umbrella and prepared to leave.
Aunt Lanhua called out to Huo Jingchen, "Captain Huo."
Huo Jingchen paused, turned around and asked, "Anything else?"
"Comrade Xia and Fu Ming are not what is said outside. Fu Ming came to thank Xia Mi yesterday afternoon, but then he was worried that you might misunderstand him, so he didn't want to look for you. So he came to look for me again late last night."
Huo Jingchen was stunned and couldn't help but think of what happened last year. In just a short moment, sadness and guilt intertwined into a web and finally turned into guilt.
"Aunt Lanhua, I know a friend who teaches at a good high school in Qingcheng. If Fu Ming is willing to study there, I can recommend him and he doesn't have to worry about his living expenses."
After he finished speaking, Huo Jingchen lowered his head, thought of something, and immediately changed his words.
"Don't say it's me, just say it's someone you know." Huo Jingchen felt his pocket and found only a dozen yuan. He put it on the table and said, "I'll make up the living expenses tonight. Please help me get back on track."
Under the dim light, Aunt Lanhua stared at the money on the table for a long time, and then nodded in agreement.
"Let me try. Fu Ming is smart. I'm not sure I can fool him."
"Thank you for your help." Huo Jingchen left after getting the answer.
Aunt Lanhua sighed, watching the heavy rain outside the door slowly subside, and said, "I wonder when the rain in Fu Ming's heart will stop."
The rain also soaked Captain Huo.
After the rain, the sky cleared up. Xia Mi slept until the lunch bell at noon and woke up. The sun shone through the window, making her feel warm.
She put on her coat and opened the window to let in some fresh air. The air carried a salty and damp smell, as well as the fishy odor of earth.
Xia Mi washed up, put on her coat, opened the door and walked out.
Aunt Lanhua was cleaning the goods in the cupboard. When she saw her come out, she said, "You're awake. Captain Huo brought you breakfast. I put it in the small kitchen. Do you want to eat it for a while or wait until noon to eat it together?"
"I'll have some breakfast, thank you, Aunt Lanhua."
Xia Mi slept so late that her ears turned red with embarrassment, and she quickly went to the kitchen to heat up breakfast.
She had just finished her meal when the orderly brought her lunch, and Xia Mi carried the heavy lunch box.
"Comrade, please tell your Captain Huo that you don't need to bring me food at night. I will just eat what I had at noon."
Daqiang smiled, showing his white teeth, "Sister-in-law, you'd better eat it, otherwise you won't have the energy to move in the afternoon."
Xia Mi frowned in confusion. Moving? Seeing her confused expression, Daqiang hurriedly explained, "You and Captain Huo's marriage report has been approved, and the marriage certificate will be issued soon. Captain Huo also asked us to come over this afternoon to help with the move."
Xia Mi was stunned, obviously having just learned the news.
Daqiang added with a smile, "This news just came down. I guess the battalion commander will tell you in person this afternoon. Sister-in-law, you must not let me leak it."
"Okay, thank you."
"This is what we should do. By the way, sister-in-law, is your illness serious? I heard from Captain Huo that you can't do heavy work due to your illness. There is a great Chinese doctor in my hometown. Do you want me to write to you and ask for two prescriptions for your treatment?"
Daqiang saw that Xia Mi's face was ruddy and it didn't look like she had the main illness that Captain Huo had mentioned.
I was worried that it was some hidden illness. If it broke out, it would be a big problem. The medical conditions on the island were different from those outside.
"What's wrong with me?"
Xia Mi was confused. Didn't she just sleep until noon? Was she accused of being lazy? Daqiang tried hard to explain. He didn't quite understand the disease that Huo Jingchen mentioned.
But Xia Mi understood that Huo Jingchen, the bastard, was trying to create a princess-like patient image for her in a roundabout way. To put it nicely, yes! Xia Mi sent Daqiang away awkwardly, holding the lunch box, and swearing in anger.
"Huo Jingchen, damn it."
The system didn't find the recommendation, so I'll only update one chapter in the next few days. I'll recommend it on Saturday, and update twice a day~
