After Xiao Jingyun went out, he came back in the evening to cook for Lin Yue.
The earthen cave had been dug and the firewood had been put in to burn, but he had to watch it. The temperature dropped suddenly and snow and wind came. If the fire went out, all the work would be wasted.
He asked Lin Yue to go to bed early and he would be back at midnight.
But how could Lin Yue sleep? She found some wide cloth and asked him to take it to set up a tent. Xiao Jingyun took it and left.
Lin Yue saw his back disappear in the wind and snow, and went to the woodshed to stay for a while. She looked at the glass lamp hanging on the wall thoughtfully.
After a while, she put on her cotton coat, put on a cloak, and carried a lamp to find Xiao Jingyun.
Following the footprints, she walked for a long time before she found Xiao Jingyun.
He stood by the cave, the wind and snow froze his hair into ice bars. Lin Yue asked curiously, "Why don't you know how to keep warm?"
Xiao Jingyun seemed to have just woken up from a dream, as if he had just been lost in thought. He asked, "Why are you here?"
Lin Yue said: "I couldn't sleep, so I came to see how you are doing."
Xiao Jingyun's gaze fell on the wooden stick in his hand, which he used to stir the firewood. However, there was a dark red bloodstain on the top, and the stick seemed to have been corroded, revealing a strange shape.
But the shapes seemed no different from summer firewood, except that they looked rotten and broke into pieces when squeezed.
Xiao Jingyun gently brushed away the top layer of dust and said to Lin Yue, "Don't worry, I've found a way out."
Hearing this, Lin Yue said happily, "Really?"
"It seems like they really gave us a snowy world for two, but they left too thoroughly, requiring us to do everything ourselves."
Xiao Jingyun said: "It's okay, I can do it."
Lin Yue said, "But it's not good for me to always rely on you. In the world I live in, everyone wants to go on vacation in the countryside. I want to too."
"I also want to save some money and open a country bed and breakfast. But now I think if the facilities are not complete, no one will stay here."
"When I get back, I must think carefully about where to open a country bed and breakfast."
Xiao Jingyun said, "Then you must experience it well these few days and remember the shortcomings. When you return, your B&B will be more perfect."
Lin Yue nodded happily. She no longer had any psychological burden and instead wanted to play in the snow.
She squatted down and wanted to make a snowman.
Xiao Jingyun picked up leaves and twigs not far away to start a fire and built a pile of firewood outside the tent so that Lin Yue could come over to keep warm when she was tired of playing.
The lamp that Lin Yue brought was hanging in the tent. When she turned around, she could see the warm light and the busy man around her. The snow-capped mountains didn't seem so scary anymore.
Lin Yue turned around and had more fun.
Xiao Jingyun looked at the swaying tent and felt that the wind was getting a bit strong. He wanted to pick up some rocks to fix it, but the snow and wind buried it, making it difficult to find rocks.
He used the snow to form bricks and built a wall on the side.
Finally, everything around became quiet and the sound of the wind didn't seem so harsh anymore.
Only then did Lin Yue discover that he was injured on his hand. The wound became red and swollen due to the repeated friction of ice and snow, and because the temperature of the skin rose, it began to itch.
He just frowned, pinched it twice nonchalantly, and then ignored it.
Lin Yue handed him a cup of hot tea, and he asked, "Where did it come from?"
Lin Yue said: "While you were building the wall, I went back to get a teapot and some dry food."
Xiao Jingyun said: "You should have asked me to go. The road is so slippery, are you okay?"
Lin Yue said: "I just fell twice, so what? I'm fine, right?"
"You can't possibly try to build a warm nest in the snow while I do nothing, right?"
"I rarely meet a man as good as you."
Xiao Jingyun said: "I am very ordinary, this is nothing."
Lin Yue imitated his tone and said, "I'm also ordinary, it's nothing."
Xiao Jingyun burst out laughing.
The fire burned through the thick branches, and the scarlet sparks were almost like burning charcoal.
Xiao Jingyun got up and got some beside the tent, so that the warmth could gradually seep into the tent and it was not so cold anymore.
Lin Yue felt that Xiao Jingyun's clothes were all wet, so she took the initiative to set up a rack and said, "Take off the wet clothes and dry them. By the way, it can also block the wind for us."
Xiao Jingyun did as he was told. Lin Yue gave him half of her cloak, and the two of them huddled together to keep warm.
Hearing the noise coming from the cave, Lin Yue felt that they wouldn't have to work so hard tomorrow, as they could take the coal back.
Thinking about the ice walls around him, he said to Xiao Jingyun, "When I was very young, I saw a program where a man encountered a blizzard in the wild. In order to stay warm, he built an ice wall."
"I didn't quite understand at the time. The ice wall, wouldn't it melt? Wouldn't he be cold?"
"But now, in this small, cramped space, I actually feel warmth. It's amazing."
As she spoke, she smiled happily like a little girl.
Xiao Jingyun immediately felt that telling her that there was a way to go back was the right thing to do. At least now she was completely relaxed and had a pleasant time.
He looked at her with a smile, but felt a sense of heaviness in his body.
Lin Yue asked, "What's wrong with you?"
Xiao Jingyun shook his head: "Nothing? I guess he's tired from working during the day."
Lin Yue immediately said: "Then lie down and take a rest, don't think about anything."
Xiao Jingyun nodded and fell asleep under Lin Yue's gaze.
