Chapter 67 Are you full?
The air in the corridor seemed to freeze for a moment.
Wen Zhi felt the burning gaze behind her, which almost burned two holes in her back. Her shoulders and neck stiffened slightly, and she felt a little flustered at being caught.
He never expected that his casual explanation that day would be overheard by Song Juelan under these circumstances.
"I...I'll go in and talk to you!" Wen Zhi, like a frightened bird, quickly took a step forward, pushing He Jin, who was just about to leave, back inside.
He turned around and gave Song Juelan, who was still standing outside the door, a sweet and gentle smile: "You should go back too, don't be late for your evening class."
After saying that, he didn't dare to look at Song Juelan's dark eyes any longer. With a "bang," he decisively closed the door, preventing any dangerous incident from happening.
In the corridor, Song Juelan stood motionless outside the door, his gaze fixed intently on the tightly closed door in front of him.
These past few days, he and Wen Zhi have been inseparable, doing all the most intimate things, but they forgot the most important thing.
—Let Wen Zhi personally give him a formal title.
They're dating now, right?
Song Juelan was unusually uncertain about his own judgment.
In dormitory 303, only Wen Zhi and He Jin were present at the moment; their other two roommates had gone out to eat.
Although curious about the junior student outside the door, He Jin suppressed her gossip and asked with concern, "Xiao Zhi, are you feeling hot or haven't slept well? Why are your eyes so red?"
“…It must be because I have internal heat.” Wen Zhi subconsciously raised her hand and touched the skin around her eyes, feeling a slight stinging sensation.
Actually, it was because he had been bullied too badly by someone these past few days, and had shed too many physiological tears. The corners of his eyes were still noticeably red from being repeatedly washed by the salty tears.
"I'll go to the cafeteria later and bring you back a bottle of herbal tea. You'll feel better tomorrow after drinking it." He Jin didn't doubt it at all.
Wen Zhi thanked him guiltily.
"Hey, I really didn't expect that you actually know that junior!" He Jin's attention quickly returned to what had just happened, and he brought it up with great interest, "When we talked about him earlier, you didn't react at all, so I thought you weren't interested in him."
Wen Zhi paused for a moment: "You've talked about him?"
“Yeah, just last week…yes, the one at the noodle shop, weren’t we talking about that junior who’s really popular lately?” He Jin clenched one fist and slammed it against the palm of his other hand. “We were talking about him!”
Wen Zhi blinked blankly, still somewhat taken aback.
It turned out that he had heard about Song Juelan back then, but he completely ignored it.
He Jin was quite surprised that he knew Song Juelan. He excitedly pulled him aside for a few more words before finally remembering that he still had something to do. He hurriedly went out to do what Wen Zhi had interrupted earlier—buy food.
The dormitory returned to quiet.
Wen Zhi walked to her desk and sat down, covering her slightly feverish cheeks with her cool fingers.
He didn't actually intend to hide the fact that he was dating Song Juelan from his roommates.
But he hadn't figured out how to explain to them that, even though it wasn't an online relationship, neither he nor Song Juelan knew that their partner was studying at S University and living in the same dormitory building.
It wasn't until more than two weeks after the start of the semester, when the two bumped into each other at a party, that they learned what had happened.
He needs to come up with a reasonable reason.
The phone on the table vibrated, and the screen lit up. Wen Zhi picked it up and glanced at it.
Song Juelan: [Want to go out for dinner?]
Upon seeing this message, Wen Zhi's lips curved into a faint smile.
The two had only been separated for less than half an hour when this person was already thinking about meeting again.
Wen Zhi: [Didn't we just eat at your house not long ago?]
Song Juelan: [Hmm]
Song Juelan: [Have you eaten yet?]
Wen Zhi stared at the seemingly normal question, and for some reason, her slender fingers curled uncomfortably, and her cheeks, which had just cooled down, became hot again.
Wen Zhi: [I'm so full!]
Regardless of what Song Juelan was referring to, he was so full he couldn't be full any more and didn't want to eat anything for the foreseeable future.
The two chatted aimlessly for a while until Song Juelan was about to start her evening class, at which point the conversation came to a temporary end.
Soon after, the three roommates returned to the dormitory. Ding Mingjun and Fang Wenxiu were overjoyed to see Wen Zhi, who had been missing for several days, come over to greet her.
"You really scared me to death!" Ding Mingjun patted his chest, still a little shaken. "That afternoon, a few of us woke up on the floor and found you weren't in the dorm. We called you but no one answered. We really thought something had happened to you."
He Jin also added in an exaggerated tone: "I was half asleep that night, and I think I really saw you being taken away. There was a very tall man carrying you on his shoulders!"
Wen Zhi's expression stiffened slightly, and she denied it dryly: "You must... have seen wrong."
Ding Mingjun nodded in agreement: "I think so too. Who would dare to openly carry a grown person away in that kind of situation? There were so many people in the private room at the time!"
Fang Wenxiu remembered something was amiss and asked, "Why didn't you answer the phone that day?"
Wen Zhi's eyes flickered: "I also had some wine, and I didn't wake up until the next night."
Although he didn't drink a drop of alcohol that night, Song Juelan tossed and turned him over and over, leaving him in no better condition than the three drunk people. It wasn't until the next night that he finally managed to get his phone back.
"So you've been drinking too." He Jin's tone was somewhat relieved. "Luckily you ran into some friends, otherwise, we were all so drunk that we wouldn't have been able to get you home."
Ding Mingjun chuckled and said, "Yeah, the three of us were dragged back by a classmate we didn't even know, and then just thrown onto the dormitory floor."
"That Song student is so kind; he even took you home," He Jin remarked.
Wen Zhi gently tugged at the corner of her lips and echoed, "He is quite enthusiastic."
Ding Mingjun craned his neck curiously: "Which Song classmate?"
"It's that freshman we were talking about before!" He Jin immediately perked up when he mentioned it: "He even took Xiao Zhi to her dorm this afternoon. She's even better looking in person than in the photos, tall and handsome!"
Ding Mingjun's face also showed a shocked expression: "It's him!"
He remembered that the last time they talked about that person, Wen Zhi clearly showed no interest and didn't say that she knew him.
Ding Mingjun's intuition told him that the relationship between the two was not so simple. He was about to make a joke when he suddenly remembered that Wen Zhi was in a relationship and it was inappropriate to make such a joke.
So he swallowed back the teasing words that were on the tip of his tongue, and just chuckled and said, "I really didn't expect that person, who seemed so aloof and unapproachable, to be so warm-hearted to his friends."
This topic has finally been put to rest.
"By the way, Xiaozhi, I've been keeping an eye on the campus walls these past two days, but I still haven't seen anyone find your student ID card." He Jin sat back down at his desk, picked up his phone and swiped it for a while, then turned to Wen Zhi and said, "You should get a replacement as soon as possible, otherwise it'll be inconvenient."
Wen Zhi had little hope of finding her student card, so she simply replied, "Okay."
*
The school bell rang in the teaching building, and a group of students poured out of the stairwell and scattered noisily in all directions.
Song Juelan, who had just finished his evening class, walked out of the teaching building with the crowd. He took out his phone from his pocket, and the screen light illuminated his well-defined face. His cold and indifferent eyebrows and eyes had softened a little at this moment.
He skillfully opened the pinned chat box and sent a message to Wen Zhi.
Song Juelan: [I'm out of class]
Song Juelan: [Are you hungry? Shall I bring you some food up?]
The phone vibrated a few times quickly, and a series of messages popped up.
Wen Zhi: [Not very hungry]
Wen Zhi: [By the way, if you pass by the service center later, could you check the opening hours for me?]
Wen Zhi: [My student ID card is lost, I need to go get a replacement tomorrow.]
A cartoon cat emoji with a droopy head appeared at the end of these messages.
Student ID?
A look of surprise crossed Song Juelan's eyes. Only then did she remember that Wen Zhi's student card was still in her wallet, and she had forgotten to return it to Wen Zhi.
As if he had caught the tip of a kitten's tail, a pleased smile curved his lips as his slender fingers tapped on the screen.
Song Juelan: [No need to replace it, I'll find it for you.]
There was a moment of silence on the other end, clearly indicating they didn't believe him.
Wen Zhi: [It's been missing for days, where are you going to look for it?]
Song Juelan could almost picture Wen Zhi on the other end of the phone, her eyes wide and adorable, and the smile on her lips deepened.
Song Juelan: [If you make a nice sound, I'll send it up to you.]
A longer silence fell on the other end of the screen, as if they were struggling with whether to compromise. A moment later, two messages popped up almost simultaneously.
Wen Zhi: [Husband]
Wen Zhi: [You're not allowed to lie!]
Song Juelan's heart felt as if it had been gently tickled by a feather; his heartbeat suddenly accelerated, and his gaze lingered on those two words for a long time.
The three roommates next to him were used to Song Juelan always being glued to his phone, chatting endlessly with his girlfriend. They asked, "Brother Song, are we planning to go to the back gate for a late-night snack? Want to come along?"
Song Juelan finally looked away from the screen, put her phone back in her pocket, and couldn't help but smile: "No, I have to go see my boyfriend."
The three of them stood there dumbfounded. Before they could react, Song Juelan had already taken long strides and disappeared like a gust of wind.
In dormitory 303, Wen Zhi sat upright at her desk, her ears bright red, her lips slightly pursed, staring intently at the motionless screen of her phone.
He was still somewhat skeptical of what Song Juelan had just said.
This person must have just wanted to get a nice greeting, so they made up such an outrageous lie, right? How could a student card that's been lost for so many days be found just like that?
However, after he sent those two messages, Song Juelan did not reply, leaving him unsure of what the other party was thinking.
Just as he tapped the screen twice, about to send another message, there was a knock on the dormitory door.
He Jin, who was closest to the door, stood up and opened it: "Who is it... Oh, it's you!"
A deep, magnetic voice came from the doorway: "Excuse me, I'm looking for Wen Zhi."
The familiar voice startled Wen Zhi, who was staring blankly at her phone, and she immediately turned to look at the door.
"Oh, he's here! Come in." He Jin warmly gestured for him to come in.
"Thank you." Song Juelan nodded slightly to him and walked straight to Wen Zhi's seat.
The other three roommates in the dormitory sat at their desks, seemingly focused on their work, but in reality, all their attention was on Wen Zhi's movements, and messages in the dormitory group chat were flying by.
Ding Mingjun: [You know what, he really is quite handsome! His face and physique are amazing!]
He Jin: [That's right!]
Fang Wenxiu: [Indeed]
Ding Mingjun: [Why is he coming to see Xiaozhi so late at night?]
He Jin: [I don't know, it must be something important, right?]
If they didn't know Wen Zhi had a boyfriend, they would have really started to speculate in certain directions.
On the other side, Wen Zhi tilted her head slightly, a bewildered expression on her face, and looked at the man next to her seat, her tone full of uncertainty: "You... really found it?"
Song Juelan held out her hand to him, and there lay the familiar student ID card in his broad palm. She deliberately asked, "Is this it?"
Wen Zhi's eyes widened suddenly. She first looked down at the student card carefully, then looked up at Song Juelan. Her curled eyelashes blinked repeatedly, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing: "Where did you find this?"
"Under the tree that bore the first fruit of early autumn." Song Juelan spoke calmly, making no mention of how she had been dragged around by Wen Zhi under the scorching sun that day.
Wen Zhi lowered her head and touched her student ID card, which she had just recovered, with great care: "So that's where I lost it..."
Looking at Wen Zhi's soft hair and long eyelashes, even though they had only been apart for less than half a day, Song Juelan felt a little restless and eager.
His arm draped naturally over the back of Wen Zhi's chair, half-enveloping her in his embrace. He leaned forward slightly and lowered his voice: "Aren't you going to give her a reward?"
Wen Zhi originally intended to treat this person to milk tea, as is customary for helping find a student ID card, but upon meeting those dark, deep eyes, she instantly understood Song Juelan's meaning, and her cheeks flushed slightly.
His bright eyes darted around, quickly scanning his surroundings. Seeing that his three roommates were all engrossed in their own things and hadn't noticed them, he leaned forward and approached Song Juelan.
Two soft lips touched each other's cool, thin lips, lingering briefly like a dragonfly skimming the water before quickly separating.
"Clang—"
"Clang—"
"Thud—"
Suddenly, the sound of things falling to the ground came from the other three desks in the dormitory.
