At the foot of the mountain, the county magistrate came in person. Except for the two yamen runners beside him, the rest were sent up the mountain.
They also went with the farmhands of Tian An's family and some of the villagers who were on good terms with them. The village chief even went straight up the mountain to look for them.
When Zhao Yiming carried Tian An out of the forest, Tian An had already fallen asleep. As soon as they left the forest, Chunxi and Mangzhong, who were waiting anxiously, came to meet them.
Zhao Yiming walked to his own ox cart, looked at the county magistrate's carriage next to him, and walked towards the carriage decisively.
"Uncle Gu, An An has fainted. I'd like to borrow your carriage."
Upon hearing this, County Magistrate Gu hurriedly said, "Why are you being so polite? People are important, take her back quickly!"
"Thank you." Zhao Yiming thanked him and carried Tian An onto the carriage. Mangzhong hurried to help.
Seeing this, Chunxi turned around and took clean clothes from the ox cart for Tian An to change into.
While Chunxi and Mangzhong were changing Tian An's clothes, Zhao Yiming found County Magistrate Gu:
"I've already subdued those bad guys. I've marked the way back. Please send someone to catch them!"
Upon hearing this, County Magistrate Gu quickly asked a yamen runner beside him to notify others to arrest the man.
Zhao Yiming then asked a farmhand who was left at the foot of the mountain to inform everyone that the person had been found. After asking them to come back, he did not stay any longer and drove the carriage with Tian An back to the village.
As soon as they reached the door, everyone who heard the noise ran out. Seeing Tian An in Zhao Yiming's arms, Xiaokang's already red and swollen eyes filled with tears again.
Mangzhong hurried forward to persuade her: "Master Xiaokang, the girl is sick now, you can't cry, it will disturb her recovery."
Hearing this, Xiaokang pulled up his sleeves and wiped his face roughly, forcing back the tears in his eyes: "Yes, I can't cry. I am a man, and I still have to take care of my sister."
Deng Xue, feeling that she had failed to protect Tian An, knelt in the yard after returning, refusing to listen to anyone's advice. She was relieved when she saw Tian An coming back.
She was originally relying on an obsession to hold on. When Tian An came back, the obsession disappeared and she collapsed.
Zhao Yiming didn't even look at Deng Xue who was lying on the ground. He carried Tian An back to the room.
It was Mangzhong who followed in and handed the medicine prepared by Tian An to Deng Shuang who was standing beside him: "This is the medicine prepared by the girl for your sister. You should take her back and take care of her. If there is anything, we can talk about it after she recovers." After saying that, he followed in.
Deng Shuang faced Tian An's door, thanked him, took the medicine, pulled Deng Xue up and carried her back to the room.
In Tian An's room, Chun Xi pulled back the quilt, and Zhao Yiming carefully put her on the bed and tucked the quilt in for her.
Then he quickly went back to his room, changed into clean clothes and came back.
At this time, Grandma Qin came in with a bowl of medicine that Tian An had prescribed for the farmhands to prevent typhoid fever.
Zhao Yiming touched Tian An's head and found that she had a severe fever: "Mother-in-law, An An has a fever. I'm afraid this medicine is no longer effective."
Mangzhong, who came in later, said, "The girl left some medicine for herself." Then he took out a small packet from a large bag of medicine and handed it to Zhao Yiming: "It says it reduces fever."
Thanks to Tian An’s literacy class, most of the girls around her can now read and write.
Zhao Yiming opened the medicine bag and found a few small pills inside. They were different from the pills he had seen in the pharmacy. Although he had doubts, he still chose to trust Tian An.
"Go get some warm water." Zhao Yiming said.
Chunxi quickly poured a cup of warm water from the kettle on the table and carried it to the bedside.
Zhao Yiming gently pulled back the quilt, helped Tian An sit up, then sat behind her and let her lean on his arms.
He whispered in her ear, "An An, it's time to take your medicine." Then he handed the medicine to her mouth.
Fortunately, Tian An was just dizzy and listless, not really unconscious. When she heard what Zhao Yiming said, she opened her mouth and swallowed the medicine.
Chunxi hurriedly handed over the water cup. Tian An drank the entire cup directly from the cup. Zhao Yiming saw that she wanted to drink more, so he asked Chunxi to pour her another cup. After drinking three cups of water in a row, Tian An finally felt better in her throat.
After taking the medicine, Tian An fell into a deep sleep. Xiaokang insisted on staying here, so Zhao Yiming let him go.
After leaving the room, Zhao Yiming went straight to the study.
Seeing him coming, Peng Zhang immediately stood up: "Is Tian An okay?"
Zhao Yiming said, "I have a fever and have taken medicine." He then asked, "How is the examination going?"
Peng Zhang was rarely serious: "The Zhang family rabbit got anxious and started biting people randomly."
Zhao Yiming raised his eyebrows: "The Zhang family still keeps someone like that?"
Peng Zhang shook his head: "I paid for it."
Zhao Yiming frowned: "Does his family still have money to hire someone?"
Peng Zhang only said: "A lean camel is bigger than a horse."
Zhao Yiming's eyes flashed with cruelty: "Then let him die."
Peng Zhang looked at him and said for no reason: "Fortunately, we are not enemies."
Zhao Yiming curled his lips: "It's your pleasure."
The two of them chatted for an entire hour behind closed doors. No one knew what they were talking about, but an hour later, Peng Zhang returned to the county town overnight. Then, all the Peng family-affiliated businesses in Jinning County held a meeting overnight until dawn.
After Zhao Yiming walked out of the study, he went straight to Tian An's room.
In the room, Chunxi was watching over him while Xiaokang had already fallen asleep leaning against the bed.
Seeing Zhao Yiming coming over, Chunxi was about to salute, but Zhao Yiming raised his hand to interrupt her.
He walked to the bed, reached out and touched Tian An's forehead. It felt much better than before, so he helped her pull the quilt.
Seeing Xiaokang sleeping beside the bed with his mouth almost drooling, she sighed, picked him up and prepared to take him back to his own room.
When Zhao Yiming came back, he had a book in his hand.
"Go to the kitchen and make An An a bowl of porridge and keep it warm, then go and have a rest!"
After giving Chunxi instructions, he brought a bench from the outer room, sat down beside Tian An's bed and began to read seriously.
In the middle of the night, Tian An's fever returned. Zhao Yiming gave her the antipyretic medicine she had left behind and kept an eye on her. Seeing her lips were dry, he immediately poured her some warm water.
After a night of careful care, Tian An's fever finally subsided when the rooster crowed for the first time.
“Water…water…”
Tian An felt that his throat was so dry that it was about to smoke. Unfortunately, his whole body was so sore and weak that he couldn't even stand up, and his eyes were not even aware of it.
Suddenly, she felt someone lift her up, and then she leaned in a warm and broad embrace. She felt a wet sensation around her mouth, and she subconsciously sucked it. The warm water flowed down her throat, instantly soothing her dry throat.
After feeding her the water, Zhao Yiming put Tian An down again and went to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, Chunxi had already cooked a pot of porridge. Seeing Zhao Yiming coming, she scooped out the porridge and put it on a tray:
"Sir, I'll go take care of the girl! You've been on guard all night, you should rest."
Zhao Yiming thought that he still had things to do, so he nodded in agreement. However, he did not go back to his room to rest, but led the donkey to the county town.
