Chapter 184 No Candy for Chinese New Year

When Tian An woke up, her mind was a little confused and her memory was still stuck on the moment she walked out of the temporary clinic.

"Are you awake?" Zhao Yiming's concerned voice came from above his head.

Tian An rubbed his still sore temples and sat up. "How long have I been sleeping?"

Zhao Yiming took the pillow and placed it under her back, saying, "It's been four hours. You must be hungry! I'll get you something to eat." After that, he put away the book, got up and went to the kitchen.

Four hours is eight hours, and it's already afternoon. No wonder she was so weak from hunger.

After a while, Zhao Yiming brought a bowl of white rice, a small dish of Kung Pao Chicken, a small dish of scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and a bowl of meatball and cabbage soup.

Smelling the delicious aroma of food, Tian An threw off the quilt and was about to get out of bed.

Zhao Yiming saw her lifting the quilt and quickly turned his back to her.

Tian An was startled, then a chill came over him, and he realized he wasn't wearing a coat. He silently glanced at Zhao Yiming's back, then Tian An grabbed his coat from the bedside, put it on, and walked to the table to start eating.

"Brother Yiming, please turn around!" After hearing Tian An's voice, Zhao Yiming turned around and sat opposite her.

"How's the village school going?" While eating, Tian An asked Zhao Yiming about the situation of the village school.

"I haven't been back since I sent you back, but with Chunxi and the others watching over you, there shouldn't be any problems. If you want to know the details, we'll go check it out after you finish eating."

"Yeah!" Tian An stopped talking and focused on eating. Zhao Yiming also took out the blue book he carried with him and read it.

After a while, Tian An had eaten and drunk her fill, and Zhao Yiming put away his books and prepared to take her to the village school.

It was still snowing, but not as heavily as last night, but there was still snow on the road.

As the two of them walked out of the door, Zhao Yiming took a long step and half-knelt in front of Tian An. "Come on! The snow is still very thick. I can carry you so that we can walk faster."

Tian An looked at the snow on the road that was enough to cover her calves, and decisively climbed onto Zhao Yiming's back.

The village school was bustling with activity. Almost all the families affected by the disaster were here. Winter wasn't a busy time, and since their houses had collapsed and the snow hadn't stopped, there was no way to repair them. So, everyone had nothing better to do than chat.

There were many children playing in the snow in the yard. When they saw the two people coming, they put down the snow in their hands and surrounded them.

"Sister An An, are you feeling better?" a little girl asked with concern.

Earlier, everyone had seen Tian An being carried back by Zhao Yiming. These children, at that age, were barely conscious. When the adults told them their family was in trouble and that being able to live here was a blessing thanks to Tian An, they remembered it, and so they cared deeply for Tian An.

Tian An raised his hand and rubbed the little girl's head, smiling and said, "Thank you for your concern. Sister is fine now!"

Another child also squeezed in front of Tian An and said, "Sister An An, are you here to see us?"

"Yes! I came to see you. Are you all okay?" Tian An looked at him and said.

"We are all fine! I have a lot of friends here! We are together all day long and it's so fun. But mom said that the candies I bought for the New Year were buried under the house and can't be taken out. I won't have any candies to eat this New Year." He choked up as he spoke.

As soon as the word "candy" was mentioned, the group of children immediately became excited.

"My family has them too. My mom said to save them for Chinese New Year, but I haven't even had a single one!"

"And me, too."

"Me too. I haven't had candy for a long time, and I can't have it this year." As he said this, tears fell out of his eyes.

Seeing someone crying, the other children also cried sadly, and their cries became louder and louder. Suddenly, their cries were so loud that they startled the adults in the house.

When the adults came out and saw that their child was crying like his father had died because of a piece of candy, they were also embarrassed. They had to endure the urge to go up to the child and touch his little butt.

Tian An was helpless as she watched the children crying uncontrollably over a piece of candy. She grabbed a handful of candy from her bag and shouted, "I have candy here! I'll give candy to anyone who doesn't cry."

In an instant, the crying stopped.

Tian An: ...This speed is incredible. If it weren't for the tears on their faces, she would have thought she was hallucinating.

Tian An had small hands, so he had to dig through his bag several times before he could give each of them two candies. The children thanked Tian An with the candies, and their smiles returned to their faces.

Zhao Yiming looked at Tian An's shoulder bag, which was already filled with several handfuls of candy and was still flat, and teased: "When did An An carry candy with him when he went out?"

Tian An was stunned for a moment, then quickly realized, "It's almost Chinese New Year! Bring some candy with you to comfort the kids! Just like what I did just now."

"An An, this bag can really hold a lot of things. Why don't you sew one for me tomorrow? It looks very convenient and easy to use." Zhao Yiming said casually.

Tian An smiled and said, "Let's talk about it later."

Oh! Zhao Yiming is so smart, and they are together every day, so she needs to be more careful! Don't let him catch her by surprise.

The two entered the house. The village elders were discussing Xiaoqi's family affairs. Seeing Zhao Yiming arrive, they called him over as well. Since they were all men, Tian An couldn't bear to listen, so he went to see Xiaoqi.

Xiaoqi has woken up, and Xiaokang is talking to him. He seems to be in good spirits, but he feels depressed because he didn't see his parents.

Seeing Tian An enter the room, Xiaokang stood up happily, "Sister, are you okay? I was so scared this morning. I saw brother-in-law Yiming carrying you back, and I wanted to go back with him. But he said you were just too tired and that you would be fine after a rest, so he asked me to stay and take care of Xiaoqi."

Tian An touched his head and said, "Sister is fine. She has rested well now." He looked at Xiaoqi again and said, "You took good care of Xiaoqi. He has woken up now."

When Xiaoqi saw Tian An looking at him, a smile finally appeared on her face. "Thank you, Sister An An, for saving me. Brother Xiaokang took good care of me and even gave me meat porridge, which was delicious."

"Really? Xiaokang did a great job!"

Xiaokang felt a little embarrassed for a moment when he was praised by the two people. His face turned slightly red, and he touched the back of his head and laughed.

After a while, Zhao Yiming came. After seeing Xiaoqi, he asked Xiaokang to accompany him well and called Tian An to go out.

After leaving the house, Zhao Yiming briefly told Tian An the results of the village discussion.

"Xiaoqi is the only one left in his family of ten. The villagers want the Tian clan to bury the nine members of his family who died. Every family should contribute money and effort to help the deceased rest in peace as soon as possible."

The dead are the greatest, and Tian An has no objection to this.

Zhao Yiming continued, "An An, you have to be mentally prepared. The Tian clan believes in doing things according to your ability."

Tian An was a little confused and looked at Zhao Yiming, "What do you mean? Is it what I thought it meant?"
