Chapter 27 Eat eggs with foresight

In the past two days, Da Niu went to the mountains twice. He was able to catch some prey each time, and the next day he went to the county town restaurant again.

With so much going on at home, Tian An didn't go up the mountain, nor did he go to gather herbs. However, the golden thread vine he had planted in the space had grown back to life, and it wouldn't be long before it grew into a large patch again.

During this time, Tian An planted crops on the land in the space whenever she had the chance. Now, she has divided the entire acre of land in the space into small plots and planted various vegetables, grains, and even fruits. In the future, she will save these for seeds to plant in the land outside, and thus increase the grain yield from generation to generation.

The quail eggs that we brought back earlier have all hatched in the past two days. Excluding the bad eggs, a total of eight quail chicks have hatched.

Quail grow and reproduce quickly, and they'll start laying eggs again in about a month. After a few months, they'll have a lot of quail and eggs. If they raise more and sell them, the family can earn some extra income.

This is all money! I have to take good care of it. Thinking of this, Tian An hurried to clean the chicken coop. Now the quails are raised with the chickens. After a while, when the number increases, they will have to be raised separately. When the time comes, I will ask Da Niu to build another coop specifically for raising quails.

When Daniu came back, Tian An had just cleaned the yard and was so tired that she didn't want to move.

Looking at her slumped on the stool, Daniu said, "If you can't do that much, just do less, or wait for me to come back and help you! Look at you, you're so skinny."

Tian An looked at him weakly and said, "You have to hunt, sell the fish, do housework, and start farming soon. How will you find time to study?"

Da Niu frowned and thought for a moment: "Let's go hire a farmhand tomorrow! Qiushan and the others can't come to help us often. We don't know how to farm, and we can't do much. If we delay any longer, it will be too late for planting."

Then he added, "The cows can be brought back tonight. I'll go cut two baskets of grass to feed them. Tomorrow we'll go to the county town. Didn't Xiaokang want to go there? Then let's go together!"

After saying that, he went out again with his sickle.

Tian An thought that since he had finally made it to the county town, he couldn't go empty-handed! What a waste!

There were still some vegetables in the garden, more than they could eat themselves. After a while, they would be too old and would only be used to feed the animals. They thought they could exchange them for some money in the county town. So they also went out, carrying their baskets.

Tian An picked some Chinese cabbage, pea tips, and some radishes, but he accidentally picked too many radishes and had to carry some home first and make another trip later.

When Tian An came back, Daniu had just returned with a basket of grass on his back. When he learned that Tian An had to make a second trip, he told her not to go and that he would do it himself.

Not long after, Da Niu came back. He was strong and could carry more radishes, so he pulled out some more radishes by himself.

He put down the radish, took a breath, and went out to cut grass again.

Xiaokang, who was feeding chickens nearby, patted Tian An and said, "Sister, Brother Daniu is so hardworking! He's very strong and can do a lot of work! He's even better than uncle. Uncle is just lazy and mean."

Tian An rolled his eyes at him and said, "You should call him Uncle Li. How can you compare him with your brother Daniu? He's a very evil person! Stay away from his family from now on. None of them are good people."

Xiaokang nodded to show that he understood.

"Xiaokang, how many eggs have you picked up these days?" Tian An said as he looked at the hens frolicking around in the yard.

Xiaokang thought for a moment and said, "I've picked up a lot, now I have a big basin."

...Tian An forgot that this kid can't count yet! He's not a kid anymore, he needs to start teaching him.

"Let's go! Let's go see how many eggs you have picked up. We will sell them tomorrow and save the money for your future studies." Tian An took Xiaokang into the house.

Xiaokang asked with his big eyes flashing, "Sister, aren't we going to save some for ourselves? Didn't you say you'd give me one every day?"

"So do you want to study or eat eggs?"

Xiaokang thought for a moment and said, "Let's study! After you study, you can earn money and eat more eggs. Brother Danniu said that we should have foresight."

...If your brother Da Niu knew that you used your foresight to eat eggs, he would probably punish you by making you squat in horse stance again.

"Alright, when have I ever lied to you? Why would I need an egg? It's just that we can't eat eggs at home right now. If we keep them, they'll go bad. I'll sell them now and save them for you when the chickens lay eggs next time."

Tian An took the basket to the storeroom, lifted the basin of eggs and placed it on the ground, saying, "Xiaokang, let me teach you how to count! Once you've learned, I'll ask Brother Da Niu to teach you arithmetic."

"Yes! Sister, I will study hard."

Tian An picked up an egg and said, "One..." and then put it in the basket.

"Sister, I can count to ten now."

"...Then I'll take one and you count them one by one!" Then he picked up another egg and put it in the basket.

Xiaokang said crisply: "Second..."

When it came to the eleventh one, Xiaokang touched his ear and looked at Tian An.

She had no choice but to remind him: "Eleven..."

Xiaokang followed up and said, "Eleven"

He counted eighty-two eggs and filled a basket. Fortunately, Tian An thought of selling the eggs, otherwise it would have been a sin if so many eggs had gone bad.

"Xiaokang! Next time if you have so many eggs saved, remember to remind your sister! Otherwise it would be a shame if they go bad!"

Xiaokang nodded and said, "Yes, I understand, sister."

When Da Niu came back from cutting grass, he also brought the cow back from Qiushan's house. Seeing that it was still daylight, he took the cow to cut two large bundles of grass and loaded them on the cow's back.
