Chapter 29 Eighty Tools
Cheng Lesheng looked at the things he brought, and the corner of his mouth twitched: "The inkstones and brushes in your house are really unique."
Wen Yongman glanced at him and handed the thing to Chen Hanxing.
The table outside was used by Mr. Shen and his friends, so they simply went to the main room, where there was also a table.
Wen Yongman sat next to her curiously: "Sister, what are you doing?"
“I want to make something that can only be done by drawing it.”
Wen Yongman nodded.
Chen Hanxing ground the ink stick, not disliking the roughness of it: "You can start now."
Wen Zhenyi thought for a moment and began to explain the simplest carving knife to her: "The wooden handle is two inches wide and six inches long, the blade is two and a half inches long, with a single-sided edge, and is five inches long."
When she finished speaking, Shen Hanxing had already drawn a carving knife she wanted: “Right?”
Wen Zhenyi was originally thinking about how he should explain it to him if he didn't understand, but he didn't expect that he had already drawn it completely, without any error.
"Yes, that's it."
Everything went even more smoothly after that. As long as Wen Zhenyi gave him a general idea, he could draw it perfectly.
Cheng Lesheng looked at the large and small things on the paper, his eyes widened: "How many are here?"
Shen Hanxing blew on the last picture in his hand: “Eighty tools.”
Cheng Lesheng felt a headache just looking at it. He didn't know if the blacksmith could make these eighty tools within ten days. "Do you need them all?"
“It’s best to make everything, because you don’t know what will be useful and what won’t.”
Cheng Lesheng called the servant at the door and said, "Go find the blacksmith and make it for me according to the drawing above. Tell them to speed up the work and have it done within ten days."
"Yes, I'll go now."
Wen Zhenyi just saw that he had written some words on the paper, but she didn't recognize them: "Brother Shen, what did you write on it just now?"
"Some markings, such as the single-edged blade you just mentioned, and the dimensions, so that the blacksmith can make it according to your measurements."
"So that's how it is." Wen Zhenyi had her own tools in her previous life, all of which were custom-made and very easy to use. Now that she's here, she doesn't know if she can do what she asked for.
Chen Hanxing carefully put away the remaining brushes, ink, paper, and inkstone, and handed them to Wen Yongman: "Xiaoman, put them away."
Wen Yongman took it and carried it back to the room.
Chen Hanxing looked at Cheng Lesheng: "Now that everything is settled, let's go back. I have classes tomorrow morning."
"Okay. Let's go back." Cheng Lesheng turned to look at Wen Zhenyi: "I'll have someone pick you up at your stall tomorrow."
"Okay." Wen Zhenyi said as he walked the two out of the main room.
Shen Xiucai watched them come out, and he also stood up and said goodbye to Old Man Wen: "Brother Wen, we will leave first and come visit you again another day."
"Haha! You can come and sit with me whenever you come back to the village."
Mr. Shen stroked his beard and nodded with a smile: "Okay, okay, I'm here to eat. Your granddaughter's cooking skills are really amazing."
"Okay, okay, you can come anytime you want. We welcome you."
Wen Zhenyi walked up to him: “Grandpa Shen, you can come anytime.”
Shen Xiucai had just heard the old man talking about the Taoist priests: "Wen family girl, how do you know those Taoist priests are liars?"
“People who are truly capable are not like them.”
"When you have time, you must tell me about it. I've heard a lot of things like this."
"Okay, I'll talk to you when you're free."
Wen Zhenyi agreed with a smile. After all, this was nothing unusual. It was just some tricks that others didn't know about.
Cheng Lesheng came in a carriage. After seeing them get on the carriage and leave, they returned to sit under the big tree in the yard.
"Grandpa and grandma, I agreed to Master Cheng's banquet request. Ten tables of banquets cost one hundred taels."
"What?" The Wen family gasped. "One, one hundred taels?"
Wen Zhen nodded: "Well, I don't know whether it is cheaper or more expensive."
Old Man Wen opened his mouth and closed it again, not knowing what to say.
Wen Chengwen counted on his fingers, "It seems that if we slaughter pigs, it will take us three and a half months to make back our earnings, and that's when business is good. If business is bad, it might not even take half a year to make back our earnings."
Old Mrs. Wen wasn't surprised at how much Wen Zhenyi earned: "Yiyi, wouldn't it be tiring to have ten tables?"
"If you help me, it shouldn't be too tiring. These dishes are fixed. As long as the side dishes are prepared, they can be made in one go."
"That's good. Just tell us what you want us to do."
"Don't worry, there are still ten days left. I still need to go see what's available on the market."
"That's right. Only when you know what's available in the market can you do it better."
Old Lady Wen said with a smile, "After deducting the cost today, we have earned two taels and four cents of silver."
Ma Yinghe thought of something: "Yiyi, why don't you teach me how to do it? Otherwise, it will be too tiring for you to do it every day."
Wen Zhenyi had thought about this before, but cooking is not something that can be learned overnight. The slightest deviation will make the taste different.
"Mom, I can teach you slowly, but it might take some time to start selling right away."
Ma Yinghe was a little frustrated: "If I had known, I should have studied hard before."
Old Lady Wen smiled and patted her hands: "Everyone is good at different things. We don't have what you can do. There are many women who can cook, but only a few can do martial arts."
Wen Zhenyi also smiled and comforted her: "Yes, if women could become officials, my mother would definitely be a very powerful constable."
Ma Yinghe reached out and pinched Wen Zhenyi's smiling face: "You are the only one who talks sweetly."
Old Mrs. Wen looked at the mother and daughter. She didn't regret marrying such a strong daughter-in-law, nor did she regret working hard for more than ten years for this granddaughter.
Now it seems it was all worth it.
Wen Zhenyi sat up straight: "Grandma, I want to discuss something with you."
"What's up?"
"I'm planning on making a meal right now. What do you think is better, breakfast or lunch?"
"We have to prepare a lot of things for lunch, so why not make breakfast and sell it out early so we can go home and rest earlier."
Wen Zhenyi also thought it was a good idea. Even if it was breakfast, they could still make a lot of dishes by changing them up: "Okay, then we'll only sell breakfast from now on, so that some customers won't be unsure what we're selling today."
Old Man Wen said hesitantly, "If it's breakfast, we have to get up even earlier than we do now."
Old Mrs. Wen thought about it and realized that they would need to prepare a lot of things for breakfast, so getting up early was inevitable.
