Chapter 299 The Piglet is Born
Wen Zhenyi felt a headache looking at the kneeling mother and her two children. Did she have the potential to be a local landlord? Why were so many people selling themselves to her as servants recently?
"Get up first, and then we can talk if you have anything to say."
"If the girl still doesn't agree, the three of us, mother and daughter, won't get up."
Wen Zhenyi frowned: "Why do you want to be my servant?"
"I want to repay the favor, but I don't have any money or other property to give back to the girl."
Wen Zhenyi squatted down and looked at the mother and her two children in front of him: "You know, after you sell your bodies to me, you will have to listen to me from now on."
"The three of us, mother and daughter, have nowhere else to go. We beg you to take us in." After saying that, she bowed to Wen Zhenyi.
Wen Zhenyi turned helplessly to look at Old Lady Wen and the others: "Grandma."
"Whether you hire one or two, you still need people anyway." Old Mrs. Wen has gotten used to it. Sometimes it's not that they want to buy people, but these people come to their door.
Wen Zhenyi turned around and looked at the mother and daughter who were still lying on the ground: "Get up, your two daughters' indentures are still in my hands, do you want them to sell their bodies too?"
Before Madam Qin could say anything, Qin Xing said, "We are willing to sell ourselves to you, young lady."
Madam Qin looked at Qin Xing: "Xing'er."
"Mom, as long as the three of us are together, selling myself to Miss Wen is not a bad thing."
"Yes, I want to be with my mother and sister." Qin Yue nodded immediately.
Wen Zhenyi stood up and said, "If you have made up your mind, come in and sign the contract."
Madam Qin looked at her two daughters, pulled them up and went to sign a contract to sell their bodies to Wen Zhenyi.
Shen Xiucai smiled and stroked his beard: "Your granddaughter is quite likable."
Old Man Wen shook his head helplessly: "There's nothing we can do about it."
Mr. Shen paused stroking his beard and blinked his eyes. Why did he feel that these words sounded like showing off?
Shen Hanxing smiled and shook his head, then walked into the yard.
Now someone has to watch the pig farm every night, for fear that the pig has given birth without them knowing.
Wen Chengwen and Ma Yinghe would go to the pig farm every night. They simply built a shack next to the pig farm and slept there at night, one sleeping in the first half of the night and the other in the second half.
Wen Zhenyi originally wanted to let them rest, but the two of them refused and asked her not to stay up late and to go to bed early.
After the autumn harvest, Uncle Lin chose an auspicious day and asked the matchmaker to come and propose marriage.
Zhu Tao was naturally informed of this marriage. When Old Lady Wen asked her about it, she blushed and lowered her head: "It's all up to Grandma Wen."
The marriage of the two was thus decided, and after looking at the date, they chose to get married after the autumn harvest next year.
Wen Zhenyi also planned to earn more money to prepare a generous dowry for Zhu Tao.
After the Wen family's autumn harvest, only two-thirds of the harvest in other families' fields had been completed.
One night, Ma Yinghe came running back in a hurry: "Dad and Mom."
The people in the yard woke up when they heard the noise, put on their clothes and went out of the room.
Old Man Wen looked at Ma Yinghe standing outside the door with an anxious look on her face: "Wife Chengwen, what's wrong?"
"It's time to give birth."
"Is the baby coming?"
"Well, we saw that the baby was about to be born, so we hurried back to tell you."
"Let's go, let's take a look."
Everyone in the Wen family who was awake ran towards the pig farm.
Wen Zhenyi did not forget to ask Qin Niangzi and the others to bring torches. It was pitch dark at the moment and there was nothing they could do without any lighting.
Madam Qin and the others nodded, turned around and got a lot of torches, put them in backpacks and carried them to the pig farm.
Wen Chengwen was standing next to a pigpen, holding a torch in his hand and looking at the pigs in the pen with a worried look on his face.
"Chengwen, what's the situation?" Old Mrs. Wen asked quickly when she saw him.
"Mom, I don't know yet. It looks like it just started, so we may have to wait a little longer."
Madam Qin lit the torch and stuck it next to the pigpen. When the pigpen was built, some space was specially reserved for placing torches.
After the torches were lit, the situation in the pigpen became clearer. No one dared to go in easily for fear of disturbing the sows giving birth.
Wen Zhenyi looked at the sow lying on the ground and grunting. He saw that her water had not broken yet, so he might have to wait a while.
She went to find a stool at the pig farm and asked Old Man Wen and his wife to sit down. "Grandpa and Grandma, please sit down and rest for a while. It won't be that fast for a while."
Old Man Wen and the others nodded and sat on the stools.
If there are not enough benches, just sit on the haystack or on the ground.
Wen Zhenyi stood beside the pigpen and watched what was happening inside. After a while, her amniotic fluid broke: "My water broke."
"Has your water broken?" Old Mrs. Wen stood up and walked to her side.
Wen Zhenyi pointed at the liquid flowing out from its body: "The amniotic fluid didn't break that quickly. It should take about a quarter to two quarters of an hour."
Old Mrs. Wen sat back on the stool, but her eyes were fixed on the pigpen.
Wen Zhenyi stood aside and waited, silently calculating the time in his mind. If it exceeded two quarters of an hour, it would be dangerous.
Fortunately, the sow was doing well. In about two cups of tea, the first piglet was born.
"Give birth."
Everyone stood up and gathered around, looking at the newly born piglets in the pigpen.
Ma Yinghe and Old Lady Wen went into the pigpen, took out the disinfected tools, and also brought over the insulated box that had been set up in advance.
The two used wheat bran to clean the mucus from the piglet's mouth, nose and body, then wiped it clean and put it in an incubator.
Old Man Wen and Wen Chengwen cut the umbilical cords, cut the teeth and docked the tails of the piglets.
For fear that too many people entering would scare the sow, everyone else could only watch from outside.
Just as Mrs. Wen and the others had finished cleaning up one piglet, another one arrived as expected.
The two of them were in a hurry at the beginning, but later they worked like an assembly line.
After two hours, when it was already dawn, the sow's delivery was finally over.
When Old Lady Wen stood up, she almost fell down. It was Ma Yinghe who quickly supported her: "Mom, how are you?"
"It's okay, my legs and feet are a little numb from squatting for so long."
Wen Zhenyi immediately went in and helped her out to sit on a stool, massaging her legs with his hands: "Grandma, let me do it next time."
"You're a little girl, you can't do this. I learned this when I accompanied your grandfather to collect pigs. I happened to see the sows giving birth there, so I followed them and learned it."
Old Man Wen smiled and shook his head: "I never thought that one day I would actually use it."
Old Lady Wen rolled her eyes at him and said, "You only think about selling pigs, and never thought about raising pigs one day."
"I haven't always raised pigs, but I've never thought about raising piglets."
Old Lady Wen ignored him: "Today went smoothly. This litter has eleven cubs."
