Chapter 55 Our Family is a Treasure
Wen Zhenyi expressed his thoughts: "Grandma, I want my brother and Xiaoman to go to school. The family is missing someone to help, and she can help."
“Studying costs a lot of money.”
"I'm fine, I'm here!"
As they were talking, they had already arrived at the market. There was a special place for parking ox carts at the entrance of the market. Each time they parked there, they had to pay three cents.
Wen Zhenyi looked at Old Lady Wen and gave her the money: "Is it three cents for one day's stay?"
"Well, this is money to pay for cleaning up the cow dung. They also help look after the animals and give them some fodder."
Wen Zhenyi felt it was quite advanced, like a modern parking lot: "Grandma, let's buy some more food today."
"Okay, buy whatever you want today. You can take it back with you using the oxcart."
Many people on the street recognized the two people: "Madam Wen, why didn't your family set up a stall today? We have to wait here so early in the morning."
"I'm sorry, my parents-in-law are here, so I need to rest for two days."
"So that's how it is. Then you'll have to prepare more food when you set up the stall."
"Okay, okay, I definitely will."
As soon as the owner of the mutton stall saw them, he hurriedly said, "Are you here to get the mutton offal? I've reserved it for you this morning." Then he took out a basket of mutton offal.
Old Mrs. Wen was stunned and then she remembered that she had agreed with them to come and get sheep and cow offal. Since she would not be setting up a stall at home for the next two days, it would be difficult to take them back.
Wen Zhenyi smiled and said, "Thank you, boss. Please keep some for us tomorrow."
"Okay, no problem."
Seeing her say that, Old Lady Wen stopped talking: "Yi Yi, do you want to buy some mutton?"
"Yes." Wen Zhenyi looked at the mutton on the mutton stall. The lamb legs and the more tender meat were all sold out, leaving only some lamb chops. "Grandma, let's buy some lamb chops."
The mutton stall owner smiled and said, "How much do you want? I'll give you a discount."
Wen Zhenyi thought that there were many people at home, so he packed up the remaining lamb chops and took them away.
There is not much good meat left at the beef stall. What is left are the beef tongue, ox tail, and beef feet, which are not very popular.
Wen Zhenyi didn't mind at all and packed up everything to take away.
The owner of the beef stall was so happy that he gave them a lot of beef bones for free.
Wen Lao Tai went to the grain shop and bought two stone of rice. One stone is one liang and five qian, so she used three liang.
I also bought a lot of other vegetables and ingredients.
When passing by a cloth shop, Old Mrs. Wen pulled Wen Zhenyi inside.
"Mrs. Wen, you haven't been here for a long time." The cloth shop owner came out to greet her when he saw her.
"Boss Xue, long time no see."
Boss Xue looked at Wen Zhenyi who was watching curiously from the side and said: "I haven't congratulated you yet."
"Okay, we've been doing business on the same street for so many years, how could we not understand each other? I came here today to buy some fabric to make some clothes for my family."
"Want to buy ramie, cotton, or muslin?"
"I need some fine cotton cloth, I need some cotton cloth." Then he pulled Wen Zhenyi, who was standing nearby looking around, and said, "Yiyi, go see if there is anything you like. I'll make you some new clothes."
"Grandma, I'm wearing pretty good clothes now."
"Be good and go choose."
Wen Zhenyi had no choice but to go and choose the fabric.
She didn't like pink and tender colors very much, but Old Lady Wen chose it for her, saying that it was appropriate to wear such pink and tender colors at such a young age.
I didn't want to make her sad, so I let her choose the fabric for me.
Boss Xue watched her buy a lot of cloth and asked, "Are you planning to set up a stall to sell cloth?"
"No, it just so happened that my father-in-law and his family came over, and I was thinking of buying one for each of them."
"Are you making money?"
“Even if you don’t make money, you still have to spend some money.”
"That's true."
Finally, each family member received a piece of cotton cloth and a piece of fine cotton cloth. Wen Zhenyi and Ma Ruier received two pieces.
The owner of the cloth shop even had his servants deliver the cloth to them on the ox cart at the entrance of the market.
The originally empty ox cart was instantly filled with the purchased items.
On the way back to the village, many people looked at them in surprise and asked, "Did your family find money?"
Old Lady Wen looked at them and said: "How about taking the ox cart? There's still a seat available. I can take you a little way."
"Okay, okay." The villagers sat on it without hesitation and saw that they had bought a lot of things.
"Your family is rich now!"
Old Lady Wen said proudly, "We brought all of this here. We earned it yesterday from hosting Mr. Cheng's birthday banquet."
The villagers were so envious, and they really were envious, because they didn't have the skills.
"Your family has finally found happiness after all the hardship."
"That's right, Yi Yi is a treasure in our family." Old Mrs. Wen praised her granddaughter without hesitation.
Wen Zhenyi felt a little uncomfortable being stared at the whole time and could only act like an ostrich.
She had never felt that the way home was so long. When she finally saw them leaving at the village entrance, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Mrs. Wen looked at her and smiled: "Don't you like chatting with them?"
"No, I'm just not used to it."
"Grandma, sister." Wen Yongman ran out from somewhere, followed by Ma Ruier. Both of them had stains on their bodies from somewhere.
Wen Zhenyi jumped down from the ox cart: "Why are you two making such a mess?"
"Hey, let's go catch some bugs." Then he looked at the ox cart behind her and said, "Sister, where did this ox cart come from?"
“I bought it.”
"What?" Wen Yongman's eyes widened, and he circled the ox cart: "Bought it?"
“I bought it.”
"Do we have a bullock cart at home?"
"Yes."
"Great, I can tell Hu Zi about it later."
Old Lady Wen looked at the two little cat-like children and said, "Come up quickly. Let's go home."
When they returned home, the people from the Wen and Ma families were surprised again.
Mrs. Wen also stuffed the cloth she bought into Mrs. Ma's hands and said, "Take these back the day after tomorrow."
"What are you doing? Your lives are hard, yet you still buy so many things?" Old Mrs. Ma disagreed.
Old Lady Wen asked Wen Chengwen to pull the cow to the backyard and close the gate: "Since you are all here today, let's go into the main room and talk."
Old Mrs. Ma looked at her old man, only to see him nod and walk quickly into the main room.
The others followed him into the main room.
Seeing that everyone was present, Old Lady Wen took out a purse from her bosom and pushed it in front of Old Man Ma and Old Lady Ma: "You have been worried about this girl Yi Yi for so many years."
Old man Ma reached out and took the purse, opened it and saw that there was at least fifty taels of silver in it. His face became long and he threw the purse on the table in anger.
The purse was not tied tightly, and the silver inside rolled out, exposed to everyone.
Old Ma also saw it clearly, and her face was full of anger: "Mother-in-law, what do you mean by this?"
