A gentle breeze blew into the room from outside the window, causing the curtains by the bed to sway twice.
Su Tiyue caught a glimpse of Qingwu's two feet hidden behind the curtain out of the corner of her eye. She knew... if they delayed any longer, and Qingwu's location was exposed, there would be no more chances.
In that instant, Su Tiyue did not hesitate any longer. Before the man in front of her could open his eyes, she knelt down beside him, quickly pulled the gold hairpin from his hair with one hand, and covered his mouth with the other.
Her slender, fair arm was raised high, and then it stabbed heavily into his chest.
The sharp pain in his chest brought Yelü Shulie back to his senses. He widened his eyes and endured the pain.
"You...!" The pain prevented him from uttering a complete sentence. He grabbed Su Tiyue's throat with one hand, exerted force with his arm, and then pressed her down firmly beneath him.
Su Tiyue's fragile neck was almost snapped by him, and suffocation and fear enveloped her like a tide.
Her lips were slightly parted as she gasped for breath, but she still couldn't breathe, and her little face turned bright red...
Yelü Shulie slowly tightened his grip on her fingers, as if he wanted to crush her to death...
Su Tiyue tried to pull his fingers with both hands, but she was too weak and no match for him.
Suddenly, the curtain in front of the bed swayed, and a flash of cold silver light swiftly passed before the man's eyes...
"……who!?"
Yelü Shulie raised his head, uttered only one word, and then felt a cold sensation run down his neck.
There was no time for pain, no time to react, and blood gushed out from the carotid artery in her neck...
Just as he was about to fall straight onto Su Tiyue while clutching his neck, Qingwu, light as a swallow, nimbly leaped and kicked him off the bed.
Fearing he wasn't quite dead, Qingwu pierced Yelü Shulie's heart from behind with the slender longsword in her hand.
At this point, the man had completely stopped breathing.
Su Tiyue's red wedding dress was stained with bright red blood. She covered her neck and got up from the bed. Although she was weak and powerless at this time, she still forced herself to move and quickly grabbed a cloak from the wardrobe and put it on.
The wedding dress was covered, and so was the blood on it.
Despite their swift and efficient movements, the commotion in the room was considerable and had already alerted the imperial guards at the courtyard gate.
Liu Wan saw two guards walking towards her. She calmly turned around, took a deep breath, and composed herself.
As the two men approached, they curiously craned their necks to look behind the door. One of them asked, "What's going on inside? Was there any noise just now...?"
Liu Wan rolled her eyes at them and said without changing her expression, "Isn't that obvious...? This is the Rouran prince's wedding night, isn't it normal for things to make a commotion? Why... are you all so curious about those things between newlyweds?"
The guard hesitated, still somewhat doubtful: "Are you really alright?"
Liu Wan said irritably, "If you're worried, go ahead and go in and take a look, but... if you anger them, you'll have to explain yourself to the Prince."
In this palace, who doesn't know that the Rouran prince is the king's honored guest?
The two guards knew that they couldn't afford to offend either the prince or the Rouran prince.
So he didn't press the matter further and left sheepishly.
The immediate crisis has been resolved, but before Liu Wan could even catch her breath, an even deeper crisis has arrived.
She turned her head and glanced at the courtyard gate, and was surprised to find that there were two more squads of imperial guards.
One team had six people, then two more teams came, making a total of... eighteen people!
This made things even worse.
Taking advantage of the moment when those people weren't paying attention, Liu Wan gently pushed open the door and walked in as if nothing had happened.
Then, close the door and bolt it.
Inside the room, Su Tiyue and Qingwu had just moved Yelü Shulie's body onto the bed and covered it with a blanket.
"Master, we can't get out of the front yard. Two more squads of imperial guards have come to guard it." Liu Wan said softly, her palms sweating.
Su Tiyue glanced at the window to the right rear and said, "Then we'll go through the backyard. We must avoid the eyes of those guards and not alert the Imperial Guards before we reach the dungeon and see Master Xiao."
Upon hearing this, Qingwu and Liuwan nodded in unison.
The window creaked open as it was gently pushed open.
Qingwu was quick and agile, and climbed out of the window first, then reached out and pulled Su Tiyue and Liuwan out.
Taking advantage of the darkness, the three of them crept out along the corner of the backyard wall.
Qingwu was familiar with the secluded and quiet paths in the palace, and she also knew how to get to the places where the palace servants were least likely to be seen at this time of day.
They walked through the most secluded woods in the Royal Garden and headed straight for the dungeon.
But when they had only gone halfway, a sharp and long sound suddenly came from not far away.
Su Tiyue looked up in the direction of the sound and saw a dazzling firework streak across the sky, illuminating the dark night.
Judging from the sound and the location of the fireworks, Su Tiyue was certain that she was very close to where the fireworks were being set off.
However, in this forest, the visibility was poor. She could feel that the place was very close, but she couldn't find it.
After a brief burst of fireworks, then...
Boom—
A loud bang.
It looked like something had exploded.
As a deafening sound rang out, Su Tiyue's feet swayed violently, and before she could react, she was thrown to the ground.
Qingwu and Liuwan tried to help her up, but the earth-shaking tremors were so violent that they were thrown hard in front of Su Tiyue.
