Chapter 148 Recovering from Injuries
Shilang stood up respectfully and said, "Your Highness, my brother's injuries have improved considerably."
The King of Chu waved his hand and walked into the room. His sharp gaze swept over Lin Changning. Lin Changning rolled off the bed and knelt on the ground in his undergarments: "Lin Changping, commander of the Daxing Guard, greets Your Highness and Crown Prince."
"Ouch, get up, get up! You're still hurt. Let's talk after you get up."
As he spoke, he grabbed Lin Changning and pressed him onto the bed. The force pulled at Lin Changning's wound, causing him to sit down with a hiss.
The prince interjected, "Father, this is the Commander Lin I told you about. It was thanks to Commander Lin's bravery that my second brother's life was saved."
Prince Chu patted Lin Changning on the shoulder and said "good" three times: "Good, good, good. Changping, right? How old are you this year? Do you have any family members? Would you like to stay in my Prince Chu's mansion and find a job?"
Lin Changning's eyebrows showed a hint of joy as he respectfully replied, "Your Highness, I am willing to serve you. Changping is sixteen years old this year. My family is from Qingshui County, Kyoto Prefecture. I also have a widowed mother, two older brothers, two sisters-in-law, and a niece."
The King of Chu clicked his tongue twice: "Only sixteen? What a young talent! Changping, you can rest assured about things at home. I will have someone bring all of Changping's relatives over here and settle them down in Taiyuan."
Lin Changning couldn't suppress the smile on his face: "Thank you, Your Highness!"
The King of Chu looked at the young man whose emotions were written all over his face and said, "You are still injured, so I won't disturb you any longer. Take good care of yourself and recover."
After saying this, he waited for the young prince to exchange a few polite words before leaving with his men. Li Mingxiu couldn't help but laugh when he recalled the sincerity hidden beneath the young man's handsome appearance.
"Father, Arong said that Commander Lin is a man of many schemes, and it seems today..."
The King of Chu also found it amusing to recall Lin Changning's barely suppressed smile: "She's not very old, that's normal. If someone her age can keep their emotions hidden, then we need to be even more careful when using her. We can trust her more when using her."
The prince agreed, and the two chatted and laughed all the way back to their room.
The next day, Qi Rong woke up early and immediately knew that he had returned to the Chu King's mansion.
As soon as he woke up, maids and servants hurriedly went to inform the King of Chu and his entourage.
The first to arrive was Li Mingxiu, who rushed over from the neighboring courtyard almost as soon as he heard the person was awake. Since their courtyards were close together, he was able to get there faster.
"Arong, are you feeling unwell?"
Qi Rong opened his eyes, still not fully conscious, his collar was open and he felt stinging pains in several places.
"Big brother?"
Li Mingxiu helped Qi Rong sit up against the bed: "Would you like some water?"
Qi Rong nodded: "Thank you, brother."
Li Mingxiu gestured to the maid to hand over a cup and tilted it to feed Qi Rong water: "It's just a small Xing, why would you risk your life to fill it? If I had been a little later, you would have lost your life."
Qi Rong coughed lightly twice: "Aren't they perfectly fine?"
Li Mingxiu was quite exasperated: "He's as stubborn as a donkey, I don't know who he took after."
The King of Chu entered the room with a cheerful smile: "Just like his mother, his mother and your mother have the same stubborn temper."
Qi Rong tried to sit up, but he was too weak. He tried to get up several times, but he was so tired that he was covered in sweat and still couldn't get out of bed. "Greetings, Your Highness."
The King of Chu waved his hand, and a perceptive maidservant had already brought a stool to the bedside: "Don't bother with all that fancy etiquette. This is your own home, so do whatever makes you comfortable. Your aunt will be here soon, so lie down and take good care of yourself. If you develop any health problems, your uncle won't have a moment's peace."
Qi Rong softened his sharp features: "It's alright, I'm sorry to have worried my aunt and uncle."
The King of Chu pointed at Qi Rong: "Do I not know you well? You only ever report good news and never bad news. You can't do this again. If it weren't for the eldest brother leaving quickly this time, you would have really lost your life. I would have sent you back to Taiyuan eight hundred years ago. You had to stay in that wretched place of Daxing. It's good that you're back now, so your aunt won't nag you every day."
Qi Rong lowered his eyes and suddenly felt a little annoyed: "It's a pity we still couldn't hold on."
It would have been better if this matter hadn't been brought up, because the King of Chu got angry as soon as it was mentioned: "That little bastard, he didn't give us any soldiers or any food. He just threw a pretty face at Daxing. It's already good that he's managed to hold out for so many days. At least he managed to evacuate the border residents. Don't take this to heart, it has nothing to do with you."
Li Mingxiu was also very angry when he brought up this matter: "I don't know what the person above is thinking."
The King of Chu's gaze suddenly darkened as he looked at Qi Rong and said in a deep voice, "Arong, you are someone I raised. Although you are nominally my nephew, you are no different from Ming Xiu and the others. Your uncle knows what you are thinking. Just wait and see. I will give you an explanation sooner or later."
Qi Rong cupped his hands in greeting: "I understand, Uncle."
As they were talking, the princess gracefully arrived with her youngest daughter, who had just turned fourteen this year.
The princess looked radiant in a bright red jacket and skirt, while the girl next to her, wearing a pink jacket, also looked bright and sunny.
As soon as he entered the courtyard, he shouted excitedly, "Second Brother, Mother and I have come to see you!"
The princess patted her youngest daughter's arm: "You're not behaving properly. Be more composed."
Li Minghua pouted: "There are no outsiders, we're all family, what's the big deal, Mother?"
The princess glanced at her daughter without saying a word, and Li Minghua immediately fell silent, sticking out her tongue and obediently standing behind her mother.
The princess entered the room with her entourage. Seeing her husband and son standing inside, she felt slightly relieved and went straight to Qi Rong's bedside with her daughter, offering her warm greetings.
"Arong, are you feeling any better today?"
Li Minghua peeked out from behind his mother and asked, "Second brother, are you feeling any better today?"
Qi Rong smiled, his eyebrows and eyes bearing a striking resemblance to those of the Princess of Chu. After a muffled cough, he said, "I'm feeling a bit better today. Thank you for your concern, Aunt and Sister."
Before the Princess of Chu could speak, Li Minghua interrupted, "Second brother, you don't know, I wanted to come see you a long time ago, but my eldest brother kept stopping me, saying that I was too talkative and disturbing your rest."
The King of Chu chuckled, “You’re right, it will indeed disturb your second brother’s rest.”
Li Minghua stared wide-eyed at the King of Chu in disbelief: "Father? How could you do this? I was just concerned about my second brother!"
The princess laughed, and the pearl hairpin in her hair trembled a few times: "Alright, Minghua, your little mouth hasn't stopped since we arrived here. You're disturbing your second brother's rest."
Li Minghua snorted and squatted down beside Qi Rong's bed, holding her head in her hands, complaining in a coquettish voice: "I'm not going to be friends with you anymore, Second Brother~ Look at Father, Mother and Eldest Brother."
Qi Rong covered his mouth with his fist and laughed: "If you're bored, you can come find your second brother. Your second brother won't mind if you talk too much."
After speaking, Qi Rong looked up at Li Mingxiu and asked, "Brother, how are Liu Lang's injuries? Where is he settled now?"
