Chapter 2 Seven Stars Alignment

Chapter 2 Seven Stars Alignment

As dusk fell, Lin Changning briefly regained consciousness, but he couldn't recognize anyone and refused to drink even a sip of the medicine that Sister-in-law Niu Er brought him.

This startled Madam Lin, who hurriedly went to fetch a doctor to examine her.

The delicate-looking girl on the bed was quietly nestled in the corner against the wall, her face pale. The dim candlelight cast a shadow on her face, and the flickering candlelight swayed slightly on her brow bone. A bluish-black tinge appeared under her slightly drooping eyelids, while her nose, as sharp as a quenched sword, pierced through her pale and fragile face.

The girl's lips were so pale they seemed to have been washed with snowmelt, yet the corners of her mouth were pursed into a straight line, and her dark pupils were filled with vigilance, as if she were completely unfamiliar with this place.

Sister-in-law Niu sighed and found a slightly thicker padded jacket to put on the shivering girl. The jacket seemed to be a men's style, and it was a little too big on the girl's thin body. The blue-gray jacket hugged the girl's bare shoulders, and the girl's pale face made her look even more pitiful.

"Fifth Sister, don't be stubborn, just drink your medicine."

Under the candlelight, the woman's eyes softened even more, gently comforting the wary girl.

The girl's glass-bead-like eyes shone brightly as she stared at the woman. Seemingly unable to suppress the itch in her throat, she coughed, and a blush of begonia color instantly appeared at the corners of her eyes.

"Oh dear, Changning, drink your medicine first. You're coughing so badly!"

Niu Er's sister-in-law patted the girl's back a few times, stood up, took the medicine soup, and held it to the girl's lips, seemingly preparing to pour it directly into her mouth.

Seeing that the woman seemed to have no ill intentions, the girl gulped down the medicine from the rough rim of the bowl.

Sister-in-law Niu Er's face immediately lit up with a smile. She pinched something and stuffed it into Lin Changning's mouth: "Sweet lips. Our mother has called the doctor. He won't be back for a while. You and Liu Lang were unconscious for two whole days after falling into the water. Your mother was so worried."

As she spoke, Sister-in-law Niu pressed Lin Changning down to lie down, and thoughtfully tucked the blanket around her: "Fifth Sister, you can doze off for a while. I'll go check on Sixth Brother. He's unconscious right now, and Eldest Sister-in-law is watching over him. I'll go lend a hand and see if he needs any help."

Lin Changning lay down with the help of Niu Er's sister-in-law, responded softly, and then said nothing more.

Lying in the warm bed, Lin Changning quietly sorted through her thoughts: Changning, Wu Niang, Liu Lang, Luoshui...

Lin Changning stared blankly at the wooden ceiling above her head. So the Seven Stars Alignment really could cause time travel! She was originally the senior sister of a martial arts school in the 21st century. Her father was the successor of the Zhanmadao (a type of sword), and her mother was the successor of the Qi family's sword technique. In her generation, she had taken in more than a dozen disciples, and several of her junior brothers and sisters had also made a name for themselves in the modern world through martial arts videos. As a result, her family's martial arts school business became extremely popular, and she took in several batches of disciples.

However, her parents were getting old and couldn't train as much, so they left a group of disciples to her, the eldest disciple. Originally, she was going to go back after the New Year with her junior brothers and sisters after the competition, but she happened to run into another event organized by the organizers to watch the rare spectacle of the seven planets aligning.

She was alright; she was in her twenties and long past the age of being curious about everything. But she couldn't bear the fact that her junior brothers and sisters were so young. So, out of love for them, she took a group of them to watch the alignment of the seven stars all night.

She stared all night but couldn't find anything. But she figured she wouldn't be able to sleep anyway, so she picked up her phone and scrolled through videos and read novels. She happened to see a sweet romance novel where the female supporting character was also named Lin Changning, so she opened it to take a look.

The novel is called Boundless Fortune. It tells the story of a girl born into a farming family who has good luck since childhood. With her good luck, she leads her family to become rich. Her eldest brother becomes the top scholar in the imperial examination, her second brother becomes the richest man in the world through business, and she also goes from being a peasant girl to marrying into a noble family.

And she, Lin Changning, is the unlucky cousin of the protagonist in the "lucky female lead" series. She didn't read the novel carefully, but it seems that none of the members of their vicious "comparison group" had a good ending.

She skimmed through the book, only managing to remember a few parts of the plot.

This was probably the time when the Lin siblings fell into the water, and then their father and two older brothers sacrificed their lives. In order to hold a decent funeral for their father, the eldest son, and the third son, and to pay for the medical treatment of the siblings, Lin Changning's mother, Lin Changshi, sold the family's farmland and houses.

Lin Changning slowly turned over, realizing that the plot had just reached the point where the siblings Lin Changning and Lin Changping had just fallen into the water.

The tragic news of Lin's father and two elder brothers' deaths in battle should not have reached them yet.

Thinking of this, Lin Changning pondered again. She must be dead. The railing of the observatory was not very sturdy. Her junior brothers and sisters were all very sleepy as dawn broke. She was just dozing off when she heard a crack.

I groggily opened my eyes and saw that the railing my sleeping junior sister was leaning against had snapped with a crack. I was startled and rushed over to grab her, but I tripped and fell through the rusty railing.

Before losing consciousness, he saw the horrified faces of his junior classmates and experienced a strong sense of weightlessness.

She probably wouldn't have survived falling from the eighth or ninth floor.

Well, she's already in the body, at least she's still alive, and her parents have a considerable amount of money. I just hope that her parents won't be too saddened to see her gruesome body.

Life is unpredictable; you never know whether tomorrow or an unexpected event will arrive.

Lin Changning lay in bed, his thoughts in utter disarray.

Soon after, a commotion could be heard outside.

"Uncle Lin, quickly, quickly take a look at the child. Fifth Sister just woke up and doesn't recognize her family."

"Oh, Changning's mother, don't panic, I'll see it now, I'll see it now."

"Second daughter-in-law, how is Fifth Sister doing now?"

"Mother, Fifth Sister just drank her medicine and lay down."

Lin Changshi pushed open the door to the east room. The wooden bolt creaked and the iron ring struck the door panel with several muffled thuds.

The doctor behind him, carrying his medicine box, stepped across the threshold and entered the house on the east side, led by Madam Lin and Sister-in-law Niu Er.

"My child!" Madam Lin rushed to the bamboo bed in three quick steps and reached out to help the girl lying on the bed up.

Niu Er's sister-in-law carried a small wooden stool and leaned it against the window, inviting the doctor to sit down.

Lin Changning sat up with the help of his mother. By the candlelight, he looked at the woman's face. When he saw the fine lines at the corners of her eyes, his heart ached. The fresh scent of soapberry mixed with the earthy smell of early spring filled his nostrils.

Lin Changning subconsciously called out, "Mother?"

"Oh dear, my girl, you're finally feeling better! You scared your mother to death."

Madam Lin hugged him tightly, calling him as if he were her own flesh and blood. She reached out and stroked Lin Changning's dark hair, saying, "May the Bodhisattva bless you. You've finally remembered your mother. Quickly, let the doctor examine you again, so you don't develop any hysteria."

The doctor lifted his gray cloth coat, sat down, and gently examined the girl's delicate wrist with his fingertips.

Lin Changning smelled the bitter fragrance of mugwort on the doctor's body, and looked up slightly to meet Lin Changshi's loving gaze.

In the dim candlelight, Lin's mother's gray hair was quietly hidden in her headscarf, with only a few messy strands of gray hair scattered on her clothes. It seemed that when she first woke up, she did not recognize people and frightened her family. The original owner's old mother rushed to fetch a doctor, and she was so tired from the journey that she did not have time to tidy herself up at all.

Lin Changning sighed inwardly, thinking how pitiful parents are all the time.

The original Lin Changning is probably really gone. Since she has taken over the identity of the deceased Lin Changning, she naturally has to fulfill her filial duties on behalf of the original owner.
