Chapter 280 Obedient

Chapter 280 Obedient

The forest suddenly turned a sharp corner. Lin Changning kept looking back. By the dim moonlight, he could clearly see a group of people on horseback approaching them at high speed less than a hundred meters away.

If he remembered correctly, there should be a large lake in Rongzhou, and two high mountains ahead. Crossing the mountains should lead to the lake.

Once they ventured into the mountains, the group shouldn't have an easy time finding them. The carriage was too conspicuous, and the further they went, the more difficult the roads became.

Lin Changning lifted the curtain and looked intently at the princess who was tightly holding Yue'er inside the carriage: "Princess! The people behind us are catching up. In a moment, I'll count to three, two, one, and you give me Yue'er. We'll jump out of the carriage together. The carriage is too conspicuous, and the road ahead will be difficult to navigate."

Li Mingshu gripped the carriage tightly, crawled forward a couple of times without thinking, handed her daughter to Lin Changning, and then clung to the door frame, her expression clearly tense.

Lin Changning glanced at the people chasing him from behind, then looked ahead. He figured he had to run a little further before there was a low slope. If he jumped down from there, he shouldn't be noticed.

"Princess, jump out of the carriage as soon as it reaches the low slope over there!!"

A layer of sweat appeared on Li Mingshu's forehead, and she nodded hurriedly.

As the low slope drew closer, Lin Changning held Yue'er protectively in his arms. Yue'er clung tightly to Lin Changning's clothes, her face showing a hint of fear.

"Three, two, one! Jump!!!"

The two jumped down almost at the same time. Lin Changning rolled on the spot with Yue'er in his arms, and together with the princess, they rolled down the low slope.

The carriage, however, sped forward recklessly.

The two of them were quite disoriented from the fall. Lin Changning held the little girl in his arms and rolled around more than a dozen times with her until their heads were spinning a bit before finally stopping at the bottom of the slope.

The princess fell even harder; her once neatly styled hair was now extremely disheveled, and her face was covered in small cuts from branches and sticks.

However, he didn't care about the pain. After falling, he immediately turned over and sat up. After calming his dizzy head, he slowly got up and looked for Lin Changning and his daughter.

Yue'er was held in Lin Changning's arms. Apart from being a little dazed, she was perfectly fine. Lin Changning's clothes were torn by stones and branches, and he could feel a burning pain in his arms and shoulders.

I think I know that I was scraped by something when I fell.

Seeing the princess scrambling over, Lin Changning lowered his voice and said, "Miss is alright, Princess, don't worry!"

After saying that, he looked at the princess who was coming over, his ears twitched slightly, and hearing the approaching hoofbeats behind him, he hurriedly stepped forward and covered the princess's mouth.

He made a shushing gesture.

After the sound of hooves subsided, Lin Changning quietly breathed a sigh of relief, grabbed the princess's hand, and whispered, "Let's go! We can't stay here any longer!"

After saying that, he pulled the person and walked quickly forward. The princess didn't have much strength to begin with, and she was slightly panting as Lin Changning pulled her forward quickly.

However, knowing that there were pursuers behind him, he endured the soreness in his ankle and followed closely behind Lin Changning.

Yue'er hugged Lin Changning's neck tightly and buried her head in his arms. After a while, she raised her head to look at her mother following behind her, obediently keeping her mouth shut. She would look at Lin Changning for a while and then at her mother behind her.

After walking for about two hours, the sky was already beginning to lighten. The princess was drenched in sweat. Yue'er seemed to notice that her mother was tired, and she looked up at Lin Changning's profile and whispered, "Uncle Lin, Mother can't walk anymore..."

Lin Changning paused for a moment, then released the princess's hand and said somewhat embarrassedly, "It was my oversight. We've been walking for more than two hours and are now deep in the forest. I doubt those people will catch up anytime soon. Let's rest for a while."

Li Mingshu shook her head: "I'm fine, let's keep going!!!"

After saying that, he leaned on the tree for support and tried to continue walking forward.

Lin Changning glanced at Li Mingshu's wrist, which was slightly bruised from her grip, and felt a little guilty. She had been running too fast and using too much force along the way, afraid that the princess would fall behind, and had gripped her wrist too tightly, causing it to turn blue.

Lin Changning gritted her teeth: "During this special period, please forgive me, Princess!!"

After saying that, he bent down and turned to look at Li Mingshu: "I'll carry the princess on my back! Princess, get on."

Li Mingshu shook her head: "It's definitely not possible for you to carry one in your arms and me on your back. If they catch up, we'll need you to protect us. I can walk, I'll be fine."

Lin Changning looked at the princess with clear eyes: "It's alright, Princess. I'll put you down if I get tired."

Li Mingshu hesitated, and Yue'er immediately jumped down from Lin Changning's arms: "Mother, Yue'er can walk. Let Uncle Lin carry you. Yue'er will walk down and won't get tired!"

Lin Changning grabbed Yue'er and urged her, "Princess, I'm known in Taiyuan for my strength and stamina. Come on up, don't delay."

Hearing Lin Changning say this, Li Mingshu stopped hesitating and leaned over to pick her up. Lin Changning carried her on his back and realized that it was inconvenient to carry someone in his arms. He tucked Yue'er under his arm with one arm and started to rush forward.

In no time, they had darted far away. Li Mingshu leaned against Lin Changning's back and realized that this young commander was indeed very strong and had good stamina. Presumably, he had been waiting for her while she was escaping.

Now, without any burdens, I can carry one on my back and tuck another under my arm, and run incredibly fast.

Hearing that the two people on his back were not speaking, Lin Changning breathed slightly: "There is a lake not far ahead. If you follow the lake eastward, you will reach Songhe County."

"I have prepared horses and caravans in Songhe County, and they will all meet there. Once we get to Songhe County, we will be much safer."

Li Mingshu on his back gave a soft "hmm". Lin Changning carried her on his back and ran fast and steadily, but Yue'er seemed to be in some discomfort.

Concerned for her daughter, Li Mingshu noticed her daughter's pale face and reminded her, "Commander Lin, stop for a moment. Yue'er seems to be feeling unwell."

Lin Changning looked down and noticed that the young lady's complexion was indeed not good, so he stopped in his tracks.

After putting the two down, I was about to check on Yue'er when I saw the little girl vomiting loudly as soon as she landed.

Li Mingshu patted her daughter's back anxiously, and only after the little girl finished vomiting did she ask, "Where do you feel unwell, Yue'er?"

After the little girl finished vomiting, she tugged at her mother's clothes and shook her head: "Moon is fine, Mother. I was just a little dizzy, but I'm fine now."

Lin Changning quickly realized that Yue'er was probably nauseous from the bumpy ride.

"Moon, why didn't you say you were feeling unwell?"

Lin Changning asked with some heartache.

Yue'er glanced at Lin Changning, her face slightly flushed: "It's not that I feel very uncomfortable, Yue'er doesn't want to cause trouble for Uncle."

The kind and understanding young girl's innocent and gentle gaze was like a sharp sword piercing Lin Changning's heart, making him feel soft-hearted.

"It won't be a big problem. If Yue'er isn't feeling well, just tell Uncle Lin, okay?"
