Chapter 298 Encirclement
With soldiers checking them ahead and pursuers behind, Lin Changning dared not stop. After arriving at the next town in the evening and obtaining his travel permit, he hurriedly headed to his next destination.
Fortunately, they had prepared many plans and supplies for the journey, so they did not encounter any difficulties during the inspections.
The most obvious thing was Yue'er's white hair. After being soaked in mulberry juice, it didn't give her any clues.
After leaving another county town, we walked along the official road. At night, all sorts of unknown birds chirped and sang in the woods on both sides of the road.
Inside the carriage, Li Mingshu was holding Yue'er and couldn't sleep soundly. The only one sleeping soundly was Wang He, who had been knocked unconscious by Lin Changning's chop to the neck.
Lin Changning was also a little tired after driving the carriage all day, with two big dark circles under his eyes.
Without warning, the carriage tripped over a rock, and the rut sank directly into a pit. Li Mingshu and Yue'er, who were half asleep, almost fell in with a thud.
Lin Changning frowned as he jumped off the carriage. He looked at the deep pit left by the carriage tracks and, taking advantage of the darkness, looked around and found that there were quite a few such pits around.
I immediately understood what was going on. On some remote official roads, some villagers would set up deep pits and stones on the road. When a carriage got stuck or broke down, they would come out and ask if we needed help.
They earn a certain amount of money by pushing carts or repairing cars.
Lin Changning tapped on the carriage with some annoyance: "Sister, hold Yue'er tight, the carriage is stuck in the ruts, I'm going to push the carriage away."
Li Mingshu responded from inside the carriage, and Lin Changning pushed the carriage into the back. With just one push, he pushed the carriage out of the ditch. After trying to push it twice more to make sure the road was flat, Lin Changning led the horse in front to avoid the ditch and stones. Only after confirming that they had reached a stable place did he get back into the carriage.
As soon as Lin Changning mounted the horse, he felt a heat between his brows and instantly became alert, burying his head inside the carriage.
"Hand me the bow and arrows and the knife."
Li Mingshu was stunned for a moment. Although she was a little confused, she still obediently went to look for Lin Changning's sword and bow and arrow and handed them over.
Alarm bells rang in Lin Changning's mind. His brow was not only burning but also throbbing. After waiting for a while, he found that apart from the sound of the wind and the chirping of birds, there seemed to be no unusual activity around him.
Just when they thought they were overthinking it, an arrow suddenly shot out of the woods and towards the carriage.
Lin Changning cursed under his breath and deflected the arrow with his sword: "Hold on tight to the carriage!!!"
After saying that, he frantically drove the carriage forward and fled.
The people lying in ambush in the woods were Su Qingyan and his remaining twenty guards. To say he was unlucky was an understatement.
They chased after the people to the courtyard only to find that they had fallen into a trap. Half of their men had been killed by an unknown force, and the guards and most of the secret guards had perished on the way.
After finally managing to track down the escaped people by these secret guards, they were caught off guard and killed again by these clueless people as soon as they started fighting.
Half of them were lost, and in the end, it was the remaining 20 guards who risked their lives to help him escape.
Just before they escaped, a guard happened to witness the restaurant owner hurriedly sending people out of the city while the two groups were fighting.
That's when they took a shortcut and chased after them.
On the one hand, they were lucky enough to find the person who escaped with the will; on the other hand, they lost more than half of their men along the way, leaving only these 20 people.
Su Qingyan gritted her teeth and waved her hand: "Surround them, we absolutely cannot let them escape again."
As they spoke, the guards in front pushed several boulders down from the mountain and placed them across the road in front of Lin Changning's carriage.
A rumbling sound rang out, and Lin Changning hurriedly reined in his horse, feeling extremely annoyed.
This is just going to go on and on!!!
Lin Changning reined in his horse, grabbed his bow and arrows and his sword, and flipped himself onto the roof of the carriage. With his attention focused, he heard his ears twitch and fired an arrow into the woods.
With a thud, something fell to the ground. Lin Changning squinted and shot another arrow. This time, the man seemed to be quite skilled. All that could be heard was the rustling of the leaves on the tree, followed by the buzzing sound of the arrow vibrating as it entered the tree.
Li Mingshu, holding Yue'er in the car, couldn't hear Lin Changning's voice and called out softly with some worry, "Xiao Liu?"
Lin Changning knocked on the roof of the car and said, "Someone is chasing us. Don't speak and hide in the car."
Lin Changning did a backflip to get off the car and dodged a hidden arrow, then retaliated by shooting an arrow in the direction from which it came.
With a whoosh, another person fell to the ground in the woods.
Seeing that one-tenth of the people she brought had gone, Su Qingyan couldn't help but feel anxious.
"Everyone, attack together!!!"
After saying that, he drew his sword and led all the guards to charge forward. Lin Changning climbed back onto the roof of the carriage. Hearing the rustling sounds in the woods, he frowned, stepped forward, pushed aside the boulder, and started to ride forward.
Turning my head, I saw that a number of men in black had indeed emerged from the woods behind me.
Lin Changning spurred his horse forward, galloping swiftly ahead. He lashed the horse's rump with the whip, and the horse, in pain, charged forward like a madman.
Lin Changning climbed onto the roof of the carriage and looked at the group of people chasing after him on horseback. He drew his bow and fired several arrows in succession. Several of the leading guards were pierced through the chest by Lin Changning's arrows and were thrown backward.
Lin Changning squinted at the people who continued to chase after him, and shot another arrow.
Su Qingyan deflected the arrow that Lin Changning had been shooting at with her sword, and somewhat annoyed, she led her men to continue the chase.
Lin Changning reached for the bow and arrow behind him, but after searching for a while, he found nothing. Frowning, he tossed the bow back into the carriage.
Drawing his sword, Lin Changning crouched on the roof of the carriage, gripping it tightly. A man on horseback leaped towards Lin Changning's carriage roof with a powerful sweeping kick. Lin Changning, on the roof, delivered a scathing kick to the man who was about to jump onto the carriage.
With one kick, he knocked the man off the carriage, where he fell heavily to the side of the road. Two or three more people on horseback then surrounded him.
Just as one person was about to climb onto the roof, Lin Changning stabbed him in the heart while he was hanging sideways on the carriage. Another person had just climbed onto the roof and, after exchanging a few blows with Lin Changning, was also stabbed in the throat.
The last person confronted Lin Changning for a long time. Just as he was about to crawl into the carriage, Lin Changning kicked him off the carriage with a flying kick.
Su Qingyan found this person increasingly troublesome. When she got closer and saw Lin Changning's slightly yellowish face under the moonlight, she suddenly felt that this person looked familiar.
Then he suddenly shouted: "Lin Changping!!!"
Lin Changning lay on the car roof, his phoenix eyes fixed on Su Qingyan, his brows furrowed and his eyes filled with murderous intent.
Upon seeing that somewhat familiar face, Lin Changning stood silently on the car roof, sword in hand, preparing to eliminate the person when Su Qingyan made her move.
Su Qingyan's heart skipped a beat when she saw the murderous intent in Lin Changning's eyes. If she remembered correctly, this person was not a kind person. Su Qingyan became more and more convinced that the imperial edict had been taken away by the Prince of Chu.
This man was a subordinate of the man surnamed Qi, who was raised by the King of Chu. Facing the murderous intent in Lin Changning's eyes, Su Qingyan suddenly shouted.
"Don't let him get away!!! Shoot the horse!!!"
