Chapter 443 Managing the Inner Quarters
The two chatted idly for a while, and before they knew it, it was almost evening. In the afternoon, they said they were tired and lay down on the bed to rest.
When they woke up again, it was already dark. Because Lin's mother thought that the two of them had been tired all day, she wanted them to sleep a little longer, so she sent a maid to bring them some food.
After the two woke up, they ate something. While they were eating, they heard a creaking sound from outside the door. The two maids stood hesitantly at the door, looking at the little boy beneath them.
Yue'er hadn't seen her mother for almost a day. After dinner, while Lin's mother wasn't looking, she quietly approached the maid, asking for directions as she crept over.
After pushing open the door and seeing the two people sitting at the table eating, she hesitated for a moment, then asked timidly, "Father, Mother?"
Many people said today that she shouldn't disturb her mother and father at night, but she really missed her mother. Yue'er knew she shouldn't disturb them tonight, so she just came to see her mother and father for a moment.
When they reached the door and opened it, they felt a little timid as they met the gentle gazes of the two parents, afraid of being scolded by them.
Lin Changning put down his chopsticks, somewhat surprised. Why would Yue'er come over, especially since she came all by herself?
He couldn't help but stretch out his hand and wave to the moon.
"Moon, come here."
Yue'er breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the gentle smile on Lin Changning's face. It was good that her parents weren't angry. She was actually a little worried that her willful visit would make her father dislike her.
She likes Father Lin and doesn't want to be disliked by him.
Seeing that Lin Changning was not angry, and even waved to him, he ran over with his short legs and jumped directly into Lin Changning's arms.
"Father!"
"Oh, my dear Yue'er, did you miss your parents? Why did you come all by yourself? Next time you come by yourself, you must bring a little maid, otherwise your parents will worry if they can't find you."
Yue'er nodded emphatically: "Yue'er understands."
Li Mingshu softly exclaimed, "Father is injured, Yue'er, be good, come to Mother's."
Yue'er looked up at Lin Changning's small face with some worry: "Does it hurt, Daddy? Yue'er can blow on it for you, it will feel cool and won't hurt anymore."
Lin Changning's phoenix eyes shimmered into a crescent moon: "Father doesn't feel pain."
Li Mingshu pulled Yue'er out of Lin Changning's arms and scolded her daughter a few times.
He held her in his arms and ate with Lin Changning. Just as they were about to rest, a maid's voice came from outside the door.
"Sir, Madam, the Old Madam sent me to take Miss back..."
Lin Changning looked at Yue'er, who was still reluctant to leave him in his arms, pinched Yue'er's tender white face, and called out to the outside, "No need, tell my mother that Yue'er will stay with us tonight."
Lin Changning slept on the outside, Li Mingshu slept on the inside, and Yue'er excitedly squeezed between the two. This was the first time she had slept with her parents.
I was so excited that I couldn't sleep.
Lin Changning lay on the outside, gently patting Yue'er with both hands, telling her various little stories. Not only did Yue'er listen attentively, but Li Mingshu also listened with great interest.
After the two fell asleep, Lin Changning lay down and soon fell asleep as well without realizing it.
I had a good night's sleep.
The next morning, when Lin Changning woke up, Li Mingshu had already gotten up and helped Yue'er get ready.
When they saw Lin Changning stretch, sit up, put down the hairpin in her hand, and walk over, they saw her stretch and sit down.
He handed Lin Changning a peach-colored robe: "Here, let me help you put it on."
Lin Changning took the clothes and chuckled, teasingly saying, "I'm not a cripple, I don't need you to help me put them on, just give them to me."
As she was about to put on her clothes, Li Mingshu stepped forward to help Lin Changning straighten her clothes and fasten her belt: "You're still injured. I'm afraid you'll pull on your wound. Raise your arm so I can help you put them on faster. We still need to serve tea to our mother-in-law today, and it won't be good if we're late."
Lin Changning couldn't help but laugh out loud. Everyone in the family knew what was going on between the two of them, so naturally they wouldn't treat each other harshly like a typical mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
"Don't worry, my mom and the others are very nice. You can rest a little longer. No one will make you stand in the rules."
Li Mingshu pinched Lin Changning's cheek lightly, annoyed: "You, you can't be careless about manners. If word gets out, what will it look like if we sleep until noon the next day? You don't care about your reputation, but I do."
Li Mingshu laughed as he spoke, then turned to look at Yue'er, who was already dressed and sitting on a chair, kicking her little legs, and said, "Let's go, take Yue'er with us."
Lin Changning nodded: "I'll talk to Mother about entrusting you with managing the household affairs."
The two of them led Yue'er to the main hall, where they saw Lin's mother and the two sisters-in-law of Lin's second brother waiting there. They walked towards the two of them with Yue'er in their arms, their faces beaming with joy.
"You're here?"
Lin Changning led Li Mingshu into the hall and bowed to Lin's mother and second brother in turn.
"Mother, I brought Mingshu with me."
As they spoke, a maidservant with keen insight came over with a teacup. Lin Changning and Li Mingshu served tea to the four people one by one. Seeing the happy faces of Lin's mother and second brother, Li Mingshu secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as Changning said, the Lin family members were all very easy to get along with.
Looking at Li Mingshu, Lin's mother felt a mix of emotions. However, seeing how well the two of them looked together, she sighed. What's done is done, and she could only hope that things would get better for the two children in the future.
Thinking this, she looked into Li Mingshu's eyes and her expression softened: "Good child, you are so beautiful. Here, this is a new bracelet that your mother made. It may not be as good as the ones from the Prince's Mansion, but it is still a rare and fine piece of material. I'm giving it to you today."
As she spoke, Lin's mother took off the bracelet from her hand and put it on Li Mingshu's wrist. Although her daughter had married him a wife, she still had to have what was due.
Lin's mother felt both awkward and strange.
The two exchanged polite greetings and gave Li Mingshu gifts. Li Mingshu then reciprocated by giving gifts to each of them according to their age.
After going through the general procedures, Lin Changning led Li Mingshu to sit on the chair on the left.
Looking at her mother and two sisters-in-law, she said earnestly, "Mother, from now on, let Mingshu handle all the affairs of the household. Everyone has their own expertise. Mingshu has been a model of a noble lady since childhood. She has been learning about the account books, ledgers, deeds and land deeds that give you headaches since you were young. It will be better to let her manage them."
Lin's mother was overjoyed, and her two sisters-in-law clapped their hands in celebration.
"Oh my, is that really true? Shu'er is in charge of the inner quarters?"
Li Mingshu looked at her two sisters-in-law and mother-in-law, who were beaming with joy and eager to hand over the matter to her immediately. She found it somewhat amusing that her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law were acting as if they were about to throw away some hot potato.
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Mother, sister-in-law, of course I know how. I can also teach you and Aunt how to manage the household affairs..."
Sister-in-law Wang's hands were almost blurry as she waved them: "Here you go, here you go, I don't need to learn it. Just looking at so many words makes my eyes dizzy."
