Chapter 465 Unrivaled Warrior
Li Jing squinted at Lin Changning. He didn't recognize the boy, but his strength was impressive. He wondered where the King of Chu had gathered such a talent.
He touched his aching chest, looked down, and saw that his armor, made of fine iron, had been cleaved open by the enemy general, leaving another wound on his chest.
Looking over there, he saw that his son had been cut off from his horse by the junior general on the other side and then finished off by the remaining men. Even as he lay on the ground, he was still looking at him with resentment.
Li Jing felt a dull pain in his chest, and hearing what the King of Chu said caused him even more pain.
With a stern face, he replied, "I still don't know when Your Highness Prince Chu had this son! If I'm not mistaken, you only have one legitimate son!"
The King of Chu proudly raised his chin at Lin Changning, his expression arrogant: "My son Ashu's husband is my half-son, and his bravery surpasses that of the three armies! He is much better than your son, isn't he!"
The mention of his recently deceased son by the King of Chu caused Li Jing's eyes to redden instantly. Ignoring the slight obstruction from those around him, he stared straight at the King of Chu.
A long spear pierced straight for the King of Chu's chest, but it was blocked by Lin Changning, who rode out from the side on a black cloud. A calculating look flashed in the King of Chu's eyes. He raised his sword and fought with Lin Changning from the left and right, respectively, against Li Jing.
Lin Changning did not recognize Li Jing's son, but the King of Chu did. When he saw Li Jing's most favored son being cut down from his horse by his own son, the King of Chu knew that his opportunity had come, so he provoked Li Jing with his words.
On the battlefield, the worst thing a person can do is to act impulsively and irrationally. When the King of Chu saw Li Jing charging towards him, he knew that Li Jing was probably blinded by grief over the loss of his son.
Lin Changning and the King of Chu joined forces again to leave several wounds on Li Jing. However, this man was indeed quite troublesome. If Lin Changning hadn't returned to defend in time, that counterattack would have seriously injured the King of Chu.
Lin Changning wielded his twin swords with incredible speed and skill, leaving four or five wounds on Li Jing's armor. The pain slowly brought Li Jing back to his senses. He turned around and saw that his three thousand cavalrymen had been surrounded by the men brought by the King of Chu. His heart skipped a beat, and he knew that he had fallen into a trap.
Seeing his personal guards and soldiers being cut down by the enemy one by one, Li Jing glanced at his son's body, which had been trampled beyond recognition by the horse, and gritted his teeth.
He loudly told the people around him to retreat.
After saying this, he escaped from the clutches of the King of Chu and Lin Changning, and quickly led the remaining cavalry back into the city.
The King of Chu looked at Lin Changning and shouted, "Xiao Liu! Stop him!"
If they were to send someone back to the city now, and they couldn't capture the central general, there would be a lot of trouble attacking the city tomorrow and the day after. Without saying a word, Lin Changning grabbed his knife and led a troop of cavalry straight after them.
With King Chu and Old Zhao guarding behind them, they watched as Lin Changning led his cavalry like a sharp blade, piercing directly into the enemy cavalry formation.
King Chu and Old Zhao exchanged a glance, then King Chu wiped the blood splattered on his face: "I'll lead my men to encircle them from the left. Old Zhao, you oversee the battle!"
As he spoke, the King of Chu led a group of men and rushed to the left, attempting to break through from the left after Lin Changning had engaged Li Jing's group, forming an encirclement and surrounding them.
Seeing the King of Chu flanking them from the side, Li Jing couldn't help but feel anxious. Lin Changning was now holding them back with his men, and the city gate was not far away. If they couldn't create distance and the King of Chu surrounded them from the side, they would surely lose this battle.
Time is life. Seeing his men being captured and killed one by one by Lin Changning, Li Jing glanced at his deputy and said in a deep voice, "You take your men and retreat to defend the city immediately. Take over command. I'll go and stop that junior officer!"
The lieutenant glanced at the commander, shook his head, and said, "This subordinate will go! Commander, take the men back to the city!"
Li Jing shouted, "Just take your men back! Don't worry about me! You can't stop him!"
With that, he pulled on the reins, leading a group of men to turn and charge towards Lin Changning.
Lin Changning was overjoyed to see the commander on the other side leading his troops toward him, and immediately led his men to meet him.
Li Jing wielded a long spear, and his attack was like a venomous snake emerging from its hole. The sharp spear tip was aimed directly at Lin Changning's face. Lin Changning dodged the attack by leaning back and then quickly grabbed the handle of Li Jing's spear.
As the heavy bronze gun handle settled into his hand, Lin Changning couldn't help but smile at Li Jing opposite him. Li Jing, seeing the smile on Lin Changning's face, secretly thought something was wrong.
Lin Changning, clad in silver armor and wielding a precious sword, grabbed the spear of the opposing general in the central army with one hand and yanked it sharply in his direction, nearly pulling Li Jing off his horse.
In the end, I managed to let go in time and barely avoided falling.
After snatching the spear, Lin Changning casually tossed it to Wei Shao beside him, his face beneath the silver helmet radiating arrogance: "Shao! Catch the spear!"
When Wei Shao heard Lin Changning call him, he turned around and saw the spear being thrown at him. He instinctively caught it.
With the heavy spear in hand, Wei Shao's eyes lit up, and he immediately used the spear to take down several imperial soldiers around him.
When he came to his senses and saw the general of the central army opposite him fighting Lin Changning with a sword, he realized where the spear came from.
Wow~ Our own assistant commander is too convenient, so convenient that he even took the enemy commander's weapon and gave it to him? ??
Wei Shao, spear in hand, led his men straight toward Lin Changning. Wherever they went, corpses littered the ground, and in no time, Li Jing's personal guards were all killed or wounded.
Seeing the two men closing in, Li Jing glanced back at his deputy general. His heart sank to the bottom. Lin Changning had caught up with his cavalry, and his deputy general and the rest of his men were ambushed by the King of Chu just as they were about to return to the city.
With Commander Zhao watching closely behind, Li Jing basically understood that the battle was lost, and a sense of powerlessness filled his heart.
Seeing Lin Changning rushing towards him, Li Jing remembered his tragically killed son, drew his sword and charged at Lin Changning, thinking that even if he died, he would take this man away to avenge his son!
Lin Changning glanced at Li Jing, who seemed to have been provoked to a ferocity, and Wei Shao beside him exchanged a look. The two of them rushed forward from the left and right, and their weapons clashed. Lin Changning slashed at Li Jing's shoulder with his sword, but Li Jing did not dodge or evade. Instead, he thrust his sword directly at Lin Changning's heart.
In the blink of an eye, before Lin Changning could react, a spear pierced straight into Li Jing's waist and slammed into the ground. The spear was withdrawn, and a flash of white light appeared. Li Jing felt a chill on his neck...
Wei Shao used his spear to lift the man's head high and shouted, "The bandit leader is here!"
