Chapter 485 Perilous Situation
A burning sensation between Lin Changning's brows tried to awaken his consciousness, but the surging Yellow River slammed the two of them straight into the riverbed.
The burning sensation on his brow gradually brought Lin Changning back to his senses, and the pain throughout his body instantly jolted him awake.
The moment Lin Changning fell into the river and was knocked unconscious by a giant wave, he felt a burning pain between his eyebrows followed by waves of warmth spreading to his limbs.
His body had somehow regained some strength, and after being pulled to the surface by the giant wave, Lin Changning hurriedly took two deep breaths, but the river was still surging and trying to drag him back underwater.
Lin Changning regained some of her senses and frantically reached out with her hands and feet to grab at something to the side. In her panic, she actually managed to grab a piece of dead wood.
He pulled himself forward with all his might, finally finding a foothold by clinging to the dead tree. Recalling his second brother's attempt to grab him before he fell into the water, Lin Changning's heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly looked to both sides.
On the turbulent surface of the Yellow River, there was no trace of a person. The two had fallen into the water together, and even if they were swept away by the river, they probably wouldn't have gone too far.
Lin Changning suppressed the panic in his heart, raised his head and looked around. Sure enough, a moment later, a giant wave lifted Qi Rong out of the water.
But the next second, he was slammed into the river by another giant wave. Lin Changning looked at a river bend not far away, gritted his teeth, grabbed the piece of dead wood, and swam towards the place where Qi Rong had just emerged.
Just as I tried to swim in that direction, I was pushed even further away by several surging waves.
A trickle of blood seeped through the light armor on his shoulder. Lin Changning gritted his teeth, removed the armor, and continued swimming toward where Qi Rong had emerged.
The warmth between his brows slowly faded, and Lin Changning's strength gradually dissipated with the cold river water. He desperately tried to get closer to where Qi Rong had reappeared.
They managed to grab Qi Rong, who was bobbing up and down on the river surface, before he was swept away by the undercurrent. They grabbed Qi Rong's hand and clung to the dead tree with him.
Lin Changning lay on the dead tree, panting heavily, spitting out the mud and sand in his mouth, and then grabbed Qi Rong's other hand to check Qi Rong's breath.
Upon discovering that Qi Rong seemed to have stopped breathing, their hearts jumped. Looking back, they saw that the low hills were already far away from them, and they estimated in their minds how long Qi Er had fallen into the water.
Seeing the Yellow River change course ahead, Lin Changning grabbed Qi'er with one hand and tried to swim towards the shore by moving his legs with the other. Finally, he reached the bend in the Yellow River and slowly approached the riverbank.
As if divinely inspired, a giant wave swept the withered tree and the two of them ashore.
Lin Changning swallowed a mouthful of mud and sand again, feeling somewhat exhausted. He lay down on the bank, leaned forward a few times, spat out a few mouthfuls of mud, and then turned to look at Qi Rong, who was lying on his back on the riverbank.
After catching his breath, Lin Changning ripped open Qi Rong's armor, cleaned the mud and filth from his mouth and nose, turned him over, and punched him in the stomach.
Under the heavy blow, Qi Rong couldn't help but vomit several mouthfuls of dirty water. Lin Changning struck Qi Rong's back again, slapping him hard several times before he started coughing.
The muddy, dirty river water flowed out of Qi Rong's nostrils.
Lin Changning turned the person's body back up and looked at Qi Erge's pale face, which was covered in various filth, and hurriedly checked the person's breath.
If he doesn't wake up and stop breathing, then artificial respiration and CPR will be the only options.
When Lin Changning placed his finger near Qi Rong's nose, he breathed a long sigh of relief. Although his breathing was still a little weak, at least he had survived.
The two of them were truly lucky to be alive today. Lin Changning unconsciously touched the gradually fading warmth between her eyebrows. If it weren't for the burning heat between her eyebrows that woke her up in time, the two of them would have been dead!
Lin Changning lay on the riverbank, taking a few deep breaths. She felt a sense of dazed relief, as if she had just survived a near-death experience. After resting for a while, the faint numbness in her shoulders reminded her that she and her companion were still injured.
Lin Changning suddenly remembered that Qi Rong had been shot with an arrow, but he hadn't seen the arrow in Qi Rong's body just now. He rolled over again and got up.
Pulling open Qi Rong's clothes, Qi Rong's slightly fair chest was revealed. His strong body was covered with scars of all sizes, which must have accumulated over a day.
The latest wound was a bloody hole in Qi Rong's side. Lin Changning looked at the wound that was bleeding profusely and felt a bit troubled.
When the arrow fell into the Yellow River, it must have broken, with a splinter still attached to the flesh.
Lin Changning tried to pry out the arrow with the splinter with his hands, but the arrow was broken into his flesh, and the broken surface was jagged. For a moment, Lin Changning had no good solution.
Looking at the faint sounds of fighting coming from above the low hill, Lin Changning felt a bit overwhelmed. He didn't know the situation of his eldest brother up there, and his second brother down below was seriously injured.
Lin Changning gritted his teeth and carried Qi Rong on his back. He walked out through the wet mud. His elder brother still had several thousand cavalrymen with him, so he should be able to protect them and help them escape.
But if we don't treat my second brother's injury, he might lose his life tonight.
Lin Changning carried Qi Rong on his back and slowly walked forward. After only a few steps, his vision went black in waves, and his shoulders felt numb, as if he had lost all feeling.
Lin Changning could feel his strength gradually weakening as his blood was drained, and he carried Qi Rong forward step by step.
This place is not far from the Zhang River, and there must be people who make a living by fishing along the banks of the Yellow River. If they could find them sooner and clean their wounds, they should be fine after getting through the night.
Lin Changning reached into the waistband of the life-saving pills that Shiro had prepared for him, and only breathed a sigh of relief after looking down at the intact small porcelain bottle.
Somewhat weak, Lin Changning carried Qi Rong on his back and walked towards the shore. After walking for about half an hour, as the sky began to darken slightly, Lin Changning finally saw a house.
Wisps of smoke drifted outwards from the chimney of that family's house. Lin Changning was sweating profusely, panting heavily, gritting his teeth, and pulling Qi Rong up a little more.
He walked unsteadily toward the family.
When Lin Changning arrived, he saw a household with a lot of dried fish drying in the courtyard. The woman was cleaning the fish that had been drying during the day, and the whole courtyard smelled of fish.
Lin Changning sighed, leaned against the door, knocked, and said.
"Is anyone home? Would it be convenient for my brother and me to stay the night?"
