Chapter 493 Hiding
Lin Changning slept comfortably in his room that night, but was woken up in the middle of the night by the voice of Physician Wu. The man stayed by their side all night. When it was just dawn, Lin Changning was fine and slept relatively soundly, but Qi Rong really did develop a fever.
While administering acupuncture to Qi Rong, Physician Wu turned to the man and spoke.
"Go to the stove and get the medicine I brewed last night. Let it cool for a while before giving it to him."
The man responded and quickly ran to the stove to get the medicine.
Lin Changning opened his eyes groggily, feeling a little dizzy. He stared at Doctor Wu, who was giving Qi Rong acupuncture, and suddenly woke up with a start.
After sitting up, he saw Doctor Wu looking at him and saying, "Don't get up. I can't take care of two patients. Take another pill from that green porcelain bottle with warm water. When it's light, I'll have someone take you to the Dragon King Temple."
Lin Changning struggled to sit up, touched his forehead, and found that he did not have a fever, but his head was slightly dizzy. After looking at the doctor, the doctor spoke again.
"Your brother is fine, he just has a fever. He just started to get a fever. The medicine was prepared last night, and we'll give him one dose later. He should be fine by tonight. Don't worry, just take care of yourself first."
Lin Changning glanced at Qi Rong with a hint of worry, but he also felt that what the doctor said made sense. He nodded and said, "Thank you for your trouble, sir."
After saying that, he lay back down on the bed. The most important thing now was to recover his health. Now that it was just the two of them, they didn't know if the imperial pursuers would search for their tracks along the shore.
Just to be on the safe side, he should recover his health first before taking Qi Rong back to camp. It's just a pity about his Mo Yun. He fell into the Yellow River with him that day. People fall into the water and are in great danger, let alone a horse.
Lin Changning looked up at the brown beam above her head, feeling a pang of sadness. From Daxing to now, Mo Yun had always been by her side.
However, during a river-crossing battle, he lost his comrades and partners.
In a daze, Lin Changning couldn't hold on any longer and fell into a deep sleep.
The burly man entered the room, carrying a bowl of bitter medicine that had been decocted, and together with the doctor, he forced Qi Rong to drink it.
After the doctor poured the medicine down the throat, he looked at the big man again and said, "These two are no ordinary people. Since we have formed a good relationship today, let's go all the way. Go to the village later and call two people, who must be close friends and keep their mouths shut, to carry them to the Dragon King Temple. Also, pack some tools and food for them."
The man looked at the two people lying on the bed, feeling a little uneasy. He sighed twice and then spoke to the doctor.
"I don't need to worry about that. I'll go find my cousin right now and take him to the Dragon King Temple."
Doctor Wu nodded to the man, noticing that Lin Changning's face was slightly flushed. He worried that Lin Changning might have a fever. After the man left, he took a few steps forward and sat down by Lin Changning's bedside.
He reached out and touched Lin Changning's forehead.
"It's not very hot, so it's not a big problem if there's no fever. It looks more like a cold."
The doctor placed his hand on Lin Changning's pulse, and was somewhat surprised as soon as he touched it. After his gaze lingered on Lin Changning's face for a few moments, he looked at Qi Rong, who was sleeping on the other side.
After taking Lin Changning's pulse and finding no major issues, he withdrew his hand, his gaze lingering on Lin Changning's face with a hint of inquiry before turning and leaving the room.
He prepared another dose of medicine for Lin Changning to treat his cold on the stove. When the man returned with his cousin, Doctor Wu was still preparing the medicine.
Looking up, he saw the man returning with his men. He wiped his hands and went outside, saying, "Sit here and wait a while, have some breakfast, and then take the men over. The young one has caught a cold again, and the medicine is still on the stove. We'll give him some before we leave."
The man and his cousin nodded when they heard what the doctor said. The woman then heated up two bowls of fish soup and a few steamed buns for the three of them and brought them to the table in the room.
She then took her two children to the stove to eat.
After the two men finished the fish soup and ate the cornbread, the doctor's face turned serious. He said to them, "Once the medicine is ready, carry the person over as soon as possible. I'm worried that the imperial court will send officials to investigate."
The man nodded to indicate that he understood. His dark-skinned cousin, who bore a slight resemblance to him, looked at Lin Changning with suspicion, then at Qi Rong: "Mr. Wu, what are the identities of these two?"
After swallowing a mouthful of cornbread with the fish soup, Wu Langzhong stared at the man's cousin and said, "Anyway, they must be rich or noble, or perhaps high-ranking officials under the King of Chu. The King of Chu distributes grain to the people; he's a good king. But we still have to make a living. Yesterday, we rescued the two men, gave them food, and provided lodging, which is more than enough. Today, we carried them to the Dragon King Temple, and that's no longer our concern. The King of Chu hasn't conquered the world yet, so we need to keep our mouths shut and not let anything about them slip by. We should also throw their clothes into the Yellow River to avoid giving anyone cause for gossip."
The man nodded. Before becoming a doctor, Wu Langzhong had studied for many years, but he had never passed the imperial examinations. However, he was quite interested in medicine. After practicing medicine for more than ten years, he gradually built up a reputation and was therefore respected by the villagers.
Upon hearing what Dr. Wu said, his cousin quickly raised his hand and swore, "Don't worry, Mr. Wu, we will definitely not reveal a single word to anyone."
As the three were talking, the woman came in with an earthenware bowl: "The medicine is ready, husband, shall we feed it to the person now?"
The woman was accompanied by two little children, who were exceptionally well-behaved and helped their mother carry two bowls of fish soup into the house.
The woman placed the medicine on the table and then took the fish soup from the two children and placed it on the table as well.
"I was worried that the two of them would be hungry when they got up, so I ladled out two more bowls of fish soup for them. After they finish their medicine, it will be just right for them to have something to eat."
Doctor Wu nodded: "If it's not too hot, just force it down his throat. We'll leave once he finishes the fish soup."
The three of them forced Lin Changning to drink another bowl of herbal medicine. Lin Changning was in a daze and only felt something bitter and astringent in his mouth, and subconsciously wanted to spit it out.
But Dr. Wu pinched his chin and forced him to drink it all. He choked a couple of times and then suddenly opened his eyes. When he saw Dr. Wu, he paused for a moment, and his murderous gaze instantly cleared. He looked at the three people beside him with a blank and innocent expression.
Seeing that Lin Changning had woken up, the woman hurriedly brought over the fish soup.
"Young man, drink a couple of sips of fish soup to rinse your mouth. I just gave you medicine to treat a cold, it smells very bitter, drink a couple of sips to wash away the taste."
Lin Changning sat up, hissing in pain from his shoulder.
"Thank you, Auntie."
After saying that, he took the fish soup from the woman's hand and drank it all in one gulp.
Seeing that the man had finished both the fish soup and his medicine, the doctor quickly looked at him and said...
"There's no time to lose, let's take them there now."
After saying that, the two men, one carrying Qi Rong on his back and the other preparing to carry Lin Changning, wanted to walk out.
Lin Changning's face was slightly pale, but he still managed to stand up: "Uncle, I'm fine, I'll go with you!"
"You just caught a cold, you're very weak right now, stop dawdling and hurry up and go!"
The doctor, most impatient with the dawdling man, glanced at the man, who immediately picked up Lin Changning and left the room.
