Chapter 504 Encirclement and Kill
Seeing that the group was trying to escape back to their army, Lin Changning and the King of Chu quickly moved forward and blocked the Duke of Ji from the left and right. The cavalry behind them followed and surrounded the group of people.
Duke Ji looked around at the cavalry surrounding him and cursed inwardly that the King of Chu was becoming increasingly difficult to deal with. The army on the other side had lost its leader and the battle formation was about to fall apart.
The opposing cavalry then attempted to divide the army and harvest them piecemeal, making the situation increasingly unfavorable for them.
The Vice Minister of War is increasingly at a loss. He originally thought that with 20,000 troops, even if they couldn't wipe out the enemy, they could at least form a battle formation and wear them down.
Unexpectedly, after only a brief encounter, the enemy managed to breach their battle formation, and the battle has now become one-sided, with the King of Chu being fierce and his soldiers equally valiant.
The fearless spirit with which those men charged into battle shocked the Vice Minister of War. He hadn't expected that the King of Chu's troops were all elite soldiers.
The soldiers they brought from the capital were already carefully selected, but after fighting for a while, the situation remained one-sided.
"Don't scatter! Don't scatter! Maintain formation and drive these cavalry out..."
The Vice Minister of War shouted and gestured to his personal guards to lead the cavalry to stop Li Mingde, who was trying to divide their army.
A centurion led his men to charge towards Li Mingde. This man seemed quite confident in himself, and he led several hundred men straight towards Li Mingde.
However, Li Mingde quickly took his head as soon as they met. A shadow flashed in Li Mingde's eyes. During this period, the first thing he did every morning was to practice swordsmanship with Lin Changning.
He was either getting beaten up or on his way to getting beaten up every day. Now his swordsmanship has improved significantly, which is why all the beatings he endured with Lin Changning every day were worth it.
After killing a centurion, several thousand-household commanders quickly surrounded him, some of whom even brought several hundred spearmen, seemingly intending to break his horse's legs and cause him to fall.
Without a second thought, Li Mingde slowed down and glanced at his personal guards behind him. After clearing a path, another squad of shield-bearers darted out from behind Li Mingde.
He charged forward fiercely, and after taking down a group of spearmen, Li Mingde launched another attack on the opposing army.
At this moment, Duke Ji was as anxious as an ant on a hot plate. Both Lin Changning and the King of Chu were difficult to deal with. Lin Changning would hold him for a while and then quickly retreat, replacing him with a young man wielding a long spear. For a time, he was unable to break free.
Looking at the Ministry of War Vice Minister's side, the flags were waved many times, but the battle formation was still broken. Countless soldiers rushed towards the gap in the battle, seemingly trying to trap Li Mingde and his cavalry in the army.
Li Mingde also led his cavalry into a fierce battle in the army formation. On the west side of the battlefield, Li Mingde's light cavalry were locked in combat with the imperial cavalry that had just surrounded them.
One of the commanders was quite skilled; Li Mingde only revealed a slight opening before his arm was quickly slashed, and blood stained his sleeve.
Li Mingde, however, seemed to feel no pain. He led his cavalry without retreating and engaged in combat again. He then stabbed his long sword into the neck of the enemy's warhorse.
The warhorse neighed in pain and fell to the ground, throwing the commander off its back. The cavalryman beside Li Mingde took the opportunity to dismount, draw his short sword, and stab at the fallen enemy.
Seeing this, another imperial cavalryman spurred his horse and charged from the side and rear, his long sword aimed straight at the back of Li Mingde's personal guard's neck. Li Mingde's personal guard noticed the approaching wind.
It suddenly rolled to the side, slamming its body into the yellow earth, sending up a spray of pebbles.
Li Mingde also quickly came towards his relatives, taking advantage of the moment when the enemy commander sheathed his sword, and cooperated with his personal guards.
The long sword pierced straight into the man's abdomen. After a muffled groan, the commander fell off his horse.
Without a second thought, Li Mingde bent down and swung his knife, killing the man in one move.
Before anyone knew it, Li Mingxiu had arrived at the battlefield. He led the remaining troops and rushed towards the weak point on the right flank. Before the gap in the left battle formation could be filled, Li Mingxiu led his cavalry to tear open another gap on the right.
Li Mingxiu led the charge, cutting down several soldiers at the front of the battle line. The infantry and cavalry behind him swarmed through the gap and began to fight.
With bloodshot eyes, Li Mingxiu led his men in a frenzied charge into the imperial army. The soldiers beside him were also fearless, and they followed Li Mingxiu as they charged straight into the enemy formation.
"Kill! Follow me and charge in!!!"
As dusk deepened, the sounds of battle on the battlefield grew increasingly fierce. Several gaps had been torn in the imperial shield formation, and black-armored soldiers swarmed in, engaging in close combat with the red-armored soldiers.
The sounds of clashing weapons, screams of soldiers, and neighing of warhorses mingled together, and the air was thick with the stench of blood.
Lin Changning cleaved the helmet off a Red Armor soldier with a single blow, revealing a blood-stained face. The soldier roared and brandished his sword, felling two of Lin Changning's personal guards to the ground.
But the next moment, a spear pierced his back. He staggered and turned around, his long sword seemingly intended to kill Wei Shao, who had ambushed him from behind.
Just as he raised his knife, he saw Wei Shao wield a spear and thrust it straight into his heart. Disbelief flashed in the soldier's eyes, and the next moment, two more long knives pierced through his chest.
Two soldiers, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, reacted swiftly and retaliated, their long swords piercing the chests of the imperial soldiers almost simultaneously.
Wei Shao drew his gun and quickly walked to Lin Changning's side to help clear out the people around Lin Changning.
Lin Changning's eyes flashed with excitement when he saw Wei Shao approaching: "Shao! Come with me and take this man down!!!"
After Lin Changning finished speaking, he led Wei Shao to charge at Duke Ji again. The two rode their horses and surrounded Duke Ji on the left and right. It seemed that the fighting had been going on for a long time and their adrenaline was rising. Lin Changning was so excited that he did not feel any pain at all.
Feeling in excellent condition, Lin Changning quickly shook off Wei Shao and charged towards Duke Ji together. He had just heard his father say that this man should be the commander-in-chief of this battle. If they could capture him, it would be an extraordinary achievement, an unparalleled feat!
A hint of excitement flashed in Wei Shao's eyes. The two men, one wielding a gun and the other a knife, swiftly attacked Duke Ji. Duke Ji, being old, was panting after being entangled with the two for a long time.
Seemingly running out of energy, Lin Changning and Wei Shao became even more excited. Lin Changning slashed at Duke Ji's neck with his sword, but Duke Ji blocked it. Wei Shao then launched another cunning spear attack from the side.
The spear tip gleamed coldly as it passed right past Duke Ji's waist and abdomen. Before Duke Ji could even think, the spear struck him heavily in the stomach.
