Chapter 107 Substitute Guardian

When Li Mingyang said this, the whole room was very quiet. Even the sound of the tears streaming down his face hitting the table seemed to become unusually clear.

But even though his face was covered in tears, his voice was choked and almost inaudible, and even his body was shaking uncontrollably, he still smiled, his gaze firmly fixed on his indifferent parents who were sitting opposite him.

This was the only way for the little boy to maintain his remaining dignity.

The judge took a deep look at the little boy, whose composure was obviously inconsistent with his age, and for a moment he felt mixed emotions.

Lu Ziyi and others in the audience no longer cared about feeling sorry for Li Mingyang, because Xiaobao was crying even harder than him. The whole little guy was twitching, not daring to make a sound. He covered his mouth with his hands and his eyes were wet. He looked very pitiful.

They frantically tried to persuade Xiaobao silently, but they didn't feel comfortable throwing away the tissues they had used to wipe Xiaobao's tears and nose. After thinking it over, they stuffed them all into Lu Jiaming and Lu Yuxuan's pockets, planning to throw them into the trash can when they got out.

The judge silently took out two documents and asked directly, "Do either defendant have any objections to the divorce?"

"No," Li's father and mother said in unison.

"Does the plaintiff have any objections to the defendant's divorce?"

"No," said Li Mingyang.

Grandma Li held Li Mingyang's hand with eyes full of heartache and sighed: "Let them divorce quickly and get out of here. Don't bring trouble to our Yangyang anymore. Although the child will not have a complete family, it is better than being tortured every day."

"They are not worthy of being parents at all! Just get a divorce!" Grandpa Li was furious and snorted heavily, "There is a saying that goes, you can not love, but please don't hurt"

"If you two don't love this child, and we do, more people will love him in the future. So please, judge, make a quick judgment and make room for the good guy!"

After saying that, Grandpa Li also glared at Li's father and mother. Seeing that the two of them had no expression of remorse at all, he was so angry that he was about to stand up and continue to attack, but Lu Zixiao quickly held him down.

"Calm down, Grandpa Li," Lu Zixiao whispered in his ear, "We can't disrupt the order of the court."

Although Grandpa Li was still glaring at the two people opposite him, fortunately he stopped cursing and sat down properly again.

Damn it, I didn’t have my crutches in my hand, otherwise I would have stood up just now!

Grandpa Li glanced at the crutch lying alone on the ground, feeling very disappointed.

The judge struck the gavel again and continued, "Since Li Mingyang is a minor, he will still need a guardian in his future life."

Then he looked at Grandpa Li and Grandma Li: "I would like to ask, how old are you this year?"

Grandpa Li: “74”

Grandma Li: “72”

"Then..." The judge hesitated, "Does Li Mingyang have any other relatives?"

"We haven't seen each other for years, and we're not close at all," Grandpa Li said anxiously. "Judge, what do you mean by that? Can't we, the old couple, be Yangyang's guardians?"

"No, sir," the judge said, "According to the law, you two elders are certainly qualified to be Li Mingyang's guardians, but the specific circumstances still need to be analyzed in detail, so I still need to understand your current physical condition."

As soon as he finished speaking, Grandpa Li quickly spoke up: "Judge, don't look at me as an old man walking with crutches and not being very agile, but there is nothing wrong with my body. I have someone to look after me every day, so I can fight for another ten or twenty years without any problem."

"And don't worry, as long as I'm still breathing, my wife and I will make sure Yangyang has enough food, clothes, and education. We will not lack anything that a child deserves."

"Yes, he's right," Grandma Li agreed. "Mr. Judge, Yangyang has always been our most beloved grandson. We will definitely treat him well. You don't have to worry about his health. We have a family doctor, who is super good."

"Family doctor?" The judge was stunned.

Lu Ziyi's mouth twitched subconsciously.

"Yes, that handsome guy with glasses in the audience," said Grandma Li, her voice tinged with pride as she tried to prove herself. "Don't underestimate him, he's just a high school student. He recently passed the dual degree selection exam at Renmin University and came in first. He's an expert in medicine. He's been taking care of us both over the past few years, and we've basically never gotten sick."

For a moment, all eyes turned to Lu Ziyi, who responded with a slightly embarrassed smile.

The judge nodded with satisfaction, and then looked at Lu Zixiao who was always comforting the two old people. He suddenly felt that these boys seemed to be much more reliable than Li's father and mother.

"I have a general understanding of the situation. You two elders can serve as Li Mingyang's guardians," the judge said. "However, no matter what, you are still a little old. Therefore, considering the actual situation, it would be better to have a younger backup guardian."

Grandpa Li and Grandma Li looked at each other, their eyes a little confused for a moment before their brains could react to the joy of being able to be guardians.

"What are the requirements for a substitute guardian?" Lu Zixiao asked, "Does it have to be a relative?"

"No," the judge replied. "Relatives are best, but if you don't have any, a long-term neighbor or friend will do, between the ages of 18 and 60."

"However, the willingness of the other party must be verified to ensure their voluntary fulfillment of the obligation, and no changes can be made midway except in special circumstances."

Lu Zixiao nodded, then took out his ID card and slapped it on the table. He said without hesitation, "I'll be Li Mingyang's substitute guardian. I'm eighteen years old."
