Chapter 44: New Faces

"What's wrong?"

Xiaobao was a little confused, but after being pulled back by Li Mingyang, he remained still and didn't move.

"Xiaobao, think about it," Li Mingyang whispered, "Which of your brothers would come back at this time?"

Lu Zixiao was still at work. Lu Ziyi received a call from Lin Ze and went to meet his uncle who was a professor at Renmin University. Lu Jiayang had only been in the dance studio for two hours and it was impossible for him to come back now.

Lu Jiaming was helping to look after the store, and Lu Yuxuan had just left...

No one can come back at this time.

Even if they really didn't bring their keys, they wouldn't keep knocking on the door without saying anything.

The knocking on the door continued, getting louder and louder. It seemed as if the person outside was certain that someone was at home and would not stop until the door was opened.

"Could it be a neighbor?" Xiaobao became inexplicably nervous, and held Li Mingyang's hand even tighter.

"No," Li Mingyang said, "I've lived in your house for so long, and I've never seen a neighbor suddenly visit you out of boredom."

Indeed, the residents nearby are all their old neighbors, and it is not an exaggeration to say that they are familiar with their family’s situation.

So in a situation like this where no adults are at home and only a child like Xiaobao is at home, it is probably not difficult to discover.

Just when the two of them were still hesitating whether to go to the yard and ask who the visitor was, they unexpectedly found that the knocking sound seemed to have stopped abruptly, and there was no movement at the door.

"Has the person left?" Xiaobao asked.

"Not sure," Li Mingyang said, "Wait two minutes before opening the door. Xiaobao, send a message to Brother Jiaming. He's nearby and can rush back if something happens."

"Okay," Xiaobao did as he was told.

Although Li Mingyang was only one year older than him, Xiaobao always felt that he inexplicably had a mature temperament beyond his years, and possessed a composure and calmness that did not belong to his age, which made people want to listen to him and do as he said.

At times like this, when there were no other adults at home, Li Mingyang became his backbone. Xiaobao didn't dare to make any unnecessary movements and just stayed beside him obediently.

After the message was sent, there was no reply from Lu Jiaming. Xiaobao was worried that he was busy so he didn't call him directly.

After waiting for two or three minutes, there was no movement at the door. Li Mingyang slowly released his hand and said softly, "Xiaobao, wait in the room. I'll go open the door and take a look."

"Okay," Xiaobao nodded, "Brother Yangyang, be careful."

It was not until he let go of his hands that the little guy realized that his palms had been wet for a long time and he didn't know when he started sweating.

Xiaobao stood in front of the door of the living room. After watching Li Mingyang open the door, he leaned half of his body out and looked around. After confirming that there was really no one there, he made an OK gesture to Xiaobao, turned around and was about to close the door and go back into the house.

But at this moment, the gate of the yard was like a naughty child who didn't want to go home. Li Mingyang couldn't close it no matter what he did, and even the door lock was stuck.

Now that he was sure it was safe, Xiaobao ran over with small steps, stood on tiptoe to turn the door lock twice, and then looked down at the place where it was stuck.

"It's okay, this lock broke once before, it's easy to fix, no trouble." Then Xiaobao pointed to the corner of the door and said, "There must be something stuck in the door there, just use tools to pry it open."

Li Mingyang looked at him running back and forth around the gate and asked suspiciously, "Xiaobao, can you fix this lock?"

"Yes," Xiaobao said without hesitation, "The last time it broke, it was my older brother who fixed it. I was learning from him the whole time, and I still remember it."

"Is that so? That's amazing!" Li Mingyang chuckled and praised him, "Do you need any help? Or any tools? I'll get them for you."

"Well... this is what I need." Xiaobao thought for a moment, "Brother Yangyang, there is a toolbox on the bottom shelf of the TV cabinet in the living room. Just help me get it."

"Okay, I'll go right away."

After Li Mingyang left, Xiaobao began to observe the door lock carefully. In fact, he was a little worried because he clearly remembered that Lu Zixiao said when he repaired the lock last time that it would not break again for a while.

But how long has it been since then? It broke down again in less than a month.

Xiaobao tried hard to recall the steps Lu Zixiao had taken to fix the lock. Although he had a very good memory, he was still unfamiliar with it as it was his first time doing it himself. He felt something was wrong after just two moves, so he quickly went around to the back of the door.

"Huh? Why does the damage this time seem different from last time..."

"Humph! Of course it's different, because this time it's man-made."

The sudden voice startled the little guy who was talking to himself. As soon as he turned around, he saw a tall and thin boy standing in front of him.

"Who... who are you?"

Xiaobao was completely stunned. This boy was a complete stranger, at least he had never seen him before.

The boy looked about the same age as Lu Zixiao and the others, and he also had a very good-looking appearance, but his face was gloomy, and his narrow, beautiful black eyes were stained with a thin layer of cold icy mist.

One can tell at first glance that the person is up to no good.

"Yang Feng," the boy said in a deep voice, "Are you Lu Yuchen?"

Hearing the name, Xiaobao was about to nod subconsciously, but suddenly stopped, and there was a hint of caution in his childish voice.

"No, I don't know you. Why do you know my name?"

Yang Feng suddenly raised his eyes, a meaningful smile appeared on the corner of his mouth, "I not only know you, I also know your brothers very well."

"But... I didn't expect you to actually come back alive. When I first heard about it, I thought your brothers missed you so much that they just adopted a random kid as their brother."
