After receiving Xiaobao's call, Lu Ziyi quickly packed his backpack and hurried out of the city library.
He knew that department store, which had a long history in Ningyang City. It was originally called a flea market, where people would basically sell their unwanted items. It was very cheap, and everyone got what they needed.
Later, as more and more small vendors got involved, the nature of the flea market gradually changed. Although the items sold were still not expensive, its development had already shown the trend of becoming a small commercial street.
There were quite a lot of people in the department store today, most of them were elderly people. Lu Ziyi called Grandpa Li several times but no one answered. He was so anxious that he kept saying "Sorry, please make way" while trying to squeeze in.
Fortunately, just as he squeezed in a short distance, he heard a health product salesman shouting something in a loud voice that echoed throughout the street. Lu Ziyi walked as fast as possible following the sound.
"You're extorting! You're completely deceiving consumers! I'm going to sue you!"
"Hey! You old man, who's being unreasonable? You ate our product and didn't pay for it. Are you taking advantage of your age? Do you really think we're too old to do anything to you?"
"You...you are so shameless! Bah! Why should I pay for this? Wasn't this a free trial as you said?"
"Old man, your ears are not good enough to hear you clearly. It's not our fault. The free trial is for this kind of medicine, but you took several kinds in a row."
"Bullshit!" Grandpa Li's face flushed with anger. "You were the ones who kept telling me that these medicines would only be effective if taken together. Didn't you say I could buy them after seeing the effects for free? Who told me I had to pay before taking them?"
The fierce quarrel soon attracted a large crowd of onlookers. Lu Ziyi had already recognized that it was Grandpa Li's voice, and he hurriedly ran through the crowd to his side.
"Grandpa Li, calm down," Lu Ziyi said quickly, supporting him. "Don't get too excited. Stop arguing with them. I'll handle whatever happened."
"Ziyi, it's great that you're here!" Grandpa Li pointed at the four people in front of him angrily. "They're swindling people! They're extorting money from ordinary people! Call the police and have them arrest them!"
"You're not done yet, old man?" the man in the white shirt said impatiently, "And you, who are you to him?"
"Family members," Lu Ziyi replied directly, "He is my grandfather. Tell me if you have anything to say."
"Okay, it's great that the family is here," the man in the white shirt said with his arms folded, his tone unkind, "Your grandfather is taking our medicine for free and making trouble here, ruining our reputation. How are we going to settle this?"
Lu Ziyi glanced at the pile of medicine boxes on the table and frowned slightly: "How much?"
"5700 in total," the man in black suddenly said, "after all this has been going on for a long time, we are too lazy to argue with you anymore. 5000 yuan, quickly pay the bill and leave, don't delay our business."
A gleam of light flashed in Lu Ziyi's usually gentle eyes, and his eyes narrowed slightly. Although he didn't say anything at the moment, a hint of anger was revealed on his face.
"Ziyi, you can't give them money!" Grandpa Li thought he was about to give in, and anxiously pounded the ground with his crutch. "They kept saying I could try it for free to see the results, so I took it. They forced all those paid medicines on me!"
"Old man, how many times do we have to explain this to you before you understand? Only the first medicine is free for trial, but we also told you that taking only one medicine will not be effective. And if you want to see a significant effect yourself, don't you have to take several medicines at the same time?"
"You guys... cough cough cough cough" Grandpa Li trembled uncontrollably, "You guys... are going too far!"
"Grandpa Li, don't be angry." Lu Ziyi supported him with one hand and rubbed his back with the other hand to help him breathe. "Listen to me, take a deep breath, and slowly calm yourself down."
"What are you doing?" The man in the white shirt took two steps back. "You're trying to scam me without paying, right? No way!"
“I have a pretty good understanding of the situation.”
Seeing that Grandpa Li's blush had subsided a little, Lu Ziyi spoke again, "I can pay you, but I need to confirm whether this medicine is genuine or not."
"If it's genuine, then we'll take the portion my grandfather ate, and we won't pay a cent less."
"But if it's fake, I'm sorry, everyone. I will take my grandfather to the hospital for a physical examination immediately. If any of the indicators are wrong, none of you will be able to escape!"
His voice was steady throughout, and there was even a smile on his lips, but the aura he exuded was not to be underestimated. For a moment, everything around him fell silent.
"Okay... okay, look ahead, just look." The man in black seemed a little guilty, but he still made way.
Without even glancing at them, Lu Ziyi strode to the table, picked up a medicine box, looked at it, then opened it, took out the instruction manual, and began to read it carefully.
I don't know when the crowd of onlookers started to increase. I could faintly hear some whispers, but there were only people gathering together, and no one left.
They all seemed to be waiting for Lu Ziyi's answer.
After a while, Lu Ziyi held up a medicine box and looked directly at the onlookers. "I think everyone has bought medicine from a regular pharmacy, right? I'll tell you later. If you don't believe me, you can compare and see, and you'll understand everything."
"The first and most obvious thing is the rough packaging, the faint writing on the box, the wrong colors, the abrupt transitions, and the misplaced color blocks—typical characteristics of fake medicine."
