"It's okay, I'll be fine soon."
After a busy day today, Lu Jiaming finally arrested all eight suspects. He thought he could finally sleep well, but he was woken up by a nightmare.
He panted for a long time before slowly sitting up and turning his head to look out the window.
Fortunately, this time when I woke up, it was daylight, not late at night.
I picked up my phone and checked the time. It was half past five.
Forget it, I won’t sleep anymore. I probably won’t be able to sleep anyway.
Lu Jiaming got out of bed carefully, tucked the quilt for Chu Wanyi, then opened the door and walked out with light steps.
He came to the living room as usual, sat on the sofa, frowned, opened his mobile phone, and looked through the latest case records.
The victim of this case was a boy who had just reached adulthood. He had a handsome appearance and good academic performance, but he was a bit shy.
But such an honest person who would not take the initiative to cause trouble was framed by his classmates, resulting in him being forced by eight men and living a life worse than death.
When he dragged his bruised body to the police station, Lu Jiaming was shocked and angry.
He could not forget why he chose the path of a policeman, and at the same time he hated such vile and shameless people even more!
So he took the initiative to take over the case, and led a group of police officers to look for clues and pursue the criminal with all their might.
Lu Jiaming arrested each person personally, and each of them was severely beaten by him.
But for some reason, even though the case was over, the nightmare still haunted him.
Lu Jiaming was holding his phone in a daze when someone suddenly tapped his shoulder.
He turned his head suddenly, his eyes widening slightly: "Brother? Why are you awake so early?"
"I was just wondering," Lu Zixiao said, "You came back so late, why didn't you get some more sleep?"
Lu Jiaming looked away, lowered his eyes and whispered, "I can't sleep."
Lu Zixiao's eyes fell on his lit phone screen and asked, "Is it because of the case?"
"...No," Lu Jiaming quickly turned off his phone, "I just have... insomnia."
Lu Zixiao looked at him quietly, and neither of them spoke for a while.
After a few minutes, Lu Zixiao suddenly said: "Jia Ming, come with me to a place."
"Huh?" Lu Jiaming was stunned. "Where are we going?"
"You'll know when you get there," Lu Zixiao chuckled. "Go wash up and change your clothes. Keep your voice down so as not to wake up the others."
“…Okay,” Lu Jiaming responded.
He originally thought that Lu Zixiao was going to take him to do something, but as the direction of the car gradually deviated, he soon realized that something was wrong.
"Brother, where are you taking me?" Lu Jiaming asked, "Doesn't this road... go to the suburbs?"
Lu Zixiao just hummed lightly: "We will be there soon, wait a moment."
Lu Jiaming frowned, looking at the scenery outside the car window that repeatedly appeared in his dreams, and couldn't help feeling irritated.
"Stop the car, bro," he couldn't help but say, "I don't want to go to that place."
Lu Zixiao had noticed his slightly trembling body out of the corner of his eye. Although he felt reluctant, he still silently gripped the steering wheel and increased the speed of the car.
I can't escape anymore, some knots in my heart must be untied.
“Brother…”
Lu Jiaming's voice tightened and trembled as he said, "I beg you, I really don't want to go."
With a sudden brake, the car finally stopped.
"We're here." Lu Zixiao raised his hand and rubbed his head. "Let's go, don't be afraid."
After saying that, he got out of the car first.
Although Lu Jiaming was unwilling, a trace of fear still surged in his heart the moment he saw Lu Zixiao's back.
He gritted his teeth and got out of the car.
The surrounding scene was no different from the nightmare, except...
"Brother, where is that old factory?"
"It was flattened," Lu Zixiao pointed ahead, "It was right there, wasn't it?"
Lu Jiaming nodded slowly, revealing a wry smile: "I remember its location very clearly, I still remember it now."
"I have a general idea of the case you're handling this time," Lu Zixiao said softly. "You've been suffering from insomnia lately. Is it because it reminds you of what happened back then?"
Seeing this, Lu Jiaming didn't plan to hide it any longer. He nodded lightly and spoke in a low voice.
"Actually, I've never forgotten what happened back then. Over the years, I've often had nightmares and woken up in shock, but this time... maybe I was really affected by the case, which is why I couldn't sleep for so many days."
Lu Zixiao looked at him and asked softly, "Because of guilt?"
"Yeah, but I'm mostly scared," Lu Jiaming said. "In my dreams, you always told me to go first. I watched those people rushing towards you, but I couldn't do anything. I couldn't even touch you. I was anxious and regretful, and I was about to collapse."
"I always wonder what I would have done if Brother Ze hadn't arrived in time that day, and if something had really happened to you... No matter how much guilt I felt at that time, it would be irreversible, and I would hate myself for the rest of my life."
Lu Zixiao stretched out his arm and put his arm around his shoulders, saying, "Before I went to rescue you that day, I knew things wouldn't be that simple, so I sent a text message to Lin Ze in advance."
"At the time, A-Liu's relentless pressure made me panic. After all, you were still in their hands, and I couldn't let anything happen to you. I admit that agreeing to their shameless request was a gamble, but I believed Lin Ze would come, so I tried my best to buy time."
"But the stakes are too high. If we're not careful, our innocence will be ruined for life," Lu Jiaming said anxiously. "What if Brother Ze is a step too late? What should we do?"
