Chapter 144 No Hope of Escape

Zhang San glared angrily and shouted, "How dare you be so arrogant, you prisoner?"

"prisoner?"

Bai Yujing's gaze was icy as she stared coldly at him. "Zhang San, you'd better watch your words. Although I don't hold any official position, I am still the newly appointed top scholar and a student of the Emperor. It seems inappropriate for you to call me a prisoner. Furthermore, your princess is deeply in love with me. If I change my mind, I will become your master's husband. If you offend me, have you considered the consequences?"

His words were resolute, and Zhang San's expression changed several times, but he still slowly walked towards him.

"Hmph, I'm a rough man, so my strength might be a bit too much. You'll have to bear with it, Scholar!"

Zhang San placed his hands on Bai Yujing's shoulders, the hidden force seemingly about to crush his bones.

Bai Yujing gritted his teeth, enduring the pain, but a cold smile appeared on his lips. "Zhang San, your strength is indeed amazing. Use all your strength. I was just worried about not being able to find any leverage over Princess Ziyan. With your help, things will be much simpler."

Zhang San was startled and quickly withdrew his hand.

The princess had instructed that we not to attack them for the time being, and I nearly ruined everything in my moment of impulsiveness. If Bai Yujing really blames the princess for my injuries, I'm afraid I won't escape the same fate.

Seeing him stop, Bai Yujing was quite displeased. "When did I tell you to stop?"

Zhang San glared angrily, but had no choice but to continue.

Bai Yujing was like a picky nobleman, complaining one moment that the force was too strong and the next that it was too weak. Zhang San's brows were furrowed as if they were being tightened by a thin thread, as if even a fly could not fly over them.

He was extremely impatient and barely managed to deal with Bai Yujing, unaware that a ghostly figure was silently approaching him.

Wearing only socks, Jiang Huaiyu moved lightly and silently across the ground until she was silently behind Zhang San. Suddenly, with lightning speed, she grabbed the sharp blade Zhang San had placed on the table and pressed it tightly against his neck. Bai Yujing also turned around in that split second and reacted swiftly, covering his mouth with her hand.

A look of astonishment flashed in Zhang San's eyes. Wasn't this woman supposed to be fast asleep? Was she just pretending to sleep?

He felt both angry and filled with remorse.

He was so distracted by Bai Yujing's disturbance that he didn't even notice someone approaching!

He stared at the knife in Jiang Huaiyu's hand, a plan forming in his mind. Just as he was about to try to seize the weapon, a sharp pain suddenly shot through his neck. The blade had already cut into his flesh, and warm blood was slowly dripping down his collar.

"If you don't want to die, don't make any rash moves." Jiang Huaiyu's gaze was icy, chillingly sharp.

The knife was made of fine steel and weighed several tens of kilograms. She gripped the hilt tightly with both hands, looking quite strained, but her eyes were filled with determination and coldness, as if she would not hesitate to slit his throat if he made the slightest move.

Zhang San was startled and involuntarily froze.

Taking advantage of this moment, Bai Yujing quickly gagged him with cloth and then found a rope to tie him up tightly.

Jiang Huaiyu then put down the knife and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

The couple exchanged a glance, took a short breath, and then resumed their actions.

"Zhang San really has a talent for serving others. With proper training, he can definitely become a satisfactory and good servant!"

Upon hearing this, Li Si, who was outside the door, was furious.

He was already resentful about Bai Yujing instructing his elder brother to perform the massage, and now, hearing such a metaphor, a surge of anger rushed from the soles of his feet to the top of his head, and he could no longer tolerate it!

With a loud bang, Li Si kicked open the door.

"Your whole family are slaves!"

As soon as Li Si stepped across the threshold, a cold glint flashed before his eyes, and a sharp blade slashed fiercely at him.

He quickly dodged, drew his knife from his waist to parry, and looked around the room. Only then did he realize that his elder brother was tightly bound to a chair with ropes.

Zhang San met his gaze, a hint of embarrassment flashing across his face.

"What are you looking at? Hurry up and deal with them, then untie me!"

Li Si finally came to his senses. When he saw Bai Yujing attacking again, he couldn't help but sneer, "Overestimating himself."

He didn't even swing his knife; with a simple sweeping kick, he sent the knife flying from Bai Yujing's hand. Jiang Huaiyu shouted urgently, "Deng Shen, aren't you going to make a move?"

Before the words had even finished, Deng Shen appeared on the threshold like a ghost, holding a huge flowerpot in both hands, and smashed it hard against the back of Li Si's head.

Li Si's body jolted and froze instantly. Bai Yujing and Deng Shen rushed forward and together they took the sharp blade from his hand and subdued him.

"Huaiyu, hurry up!" Bai Yujing urged anxiously.

Without hesitation, Jiang Huaiyu rushed towards the door. As soon as she reached the courtyard, she heard Bai Yujing's suppressed groans and Deng Shen's agonizing screams from inside. But she couldn't turn back; if she did, all her previous efforts would be in vain.

She gritted her teeth and moved swiftly to the courtyard gate. She hurriedly pulled open the latch and was about to step out when she was met with a sharp longsword blocking her way. The sword tip was menacing, and Jiang Huaiyu could only retreat repeatedly until she was forced to the door.

At this moment, Zhang San and Li Si also came out of the house. Seeing the scene before them, they couldn't help but burst into laughter.

"Now that you've fallen into the hands of the princess, do you still think you can escape alive?" the swordsman said sarcastically. "If you hadn't failed earlier, why would the princess have sent me to guard the gate? Alright, let's make our final arrangements."

He turned and left as soon as he finished speaking.

Seeing this, Jiang Huaiyu knew there was no hope of escape, so he rushed back into the house. He saw Bai Yujing and Deng Shen lying on the ground, with bloodstains all over Deng Shen's body.

She first checked on Bai Yujing to make sure he wasn't fatally injured, then immediately turned to check on Deng Shen's injuries. Deng Shen's condition was not optimistic; besides the bruises on his face from punches and kicks, his most serious injury was the lacerated gash in his abdomen, from which blood was slowly seeping out.

Jiang Huaiyu quickly pressed his hand against the wound and pleaded with Zhang San and Li Si, "He is seriously injured and urgently needs a doctor to come and treat him!"

Li Si responded coldly: "He brought this on himself, so he has no one to blame but himself. If you hadn't caused trouble, would he have been so seriously injured?"

The two clearly had no intention of offering assistance.

Jiang Huaiyu was extremely anxious. Helpless, she had no choice but to take out some strips of cloth from the room and first give Deng Shen a simple bandage to stop the bleeding.

Deng Shen's face was pale, but a weak smile appeared on his lips. "Madam, you need not worry about me. My life is insignificant; it's alright if I die. It's just a pity that I couldn't help you escape danger..."

"Stop talking nonsense!" Jiang Huaiyu interrupted him sternly. "Your wish is to achieve something great, and I'm counting on you to help me manage affairs in the future. How can you talk about dying so easily when the great things haven't been accomplished? You must grit your teeth and persevere. I will definitely find a doctor to heal your injuries."

Deng Shen's face was as pale as paper, but a tear glistened in his eye. "Your humble servant obeys..."

Before he could finish speaking, Zhang San and Li Si suddenly burst in, dragged Deng Shen away, and tied him to a pillar in the outdoor corridor.
