Chapter 158 Strong Support

After examining her, Doctor Liang's expression turned grave, and he remained silent. After a moment, he slowly spoke: "Miss Jiang's inner turmoil is unresolved, and her meridians are blocked. Once pathogenic factors invade, her illness will flare up rapidly. For her, this is both a relief and a test. I can only try strong medicine; the rest is up to fate..."

Jiang Huaiyu is ill.

The saying "illness strikes like a landslide" perfectly describes her current condition. Just one day she was lively and energetic, but in the blink of an eye she was bedridden, her persistent high fever causing her to alternate between lucidity and unconsciousness.

In her lucid moments, her tears fell silently like pearls from a broken string, seemingly never-ending. She ignored those who tried to comfort her, neither crying aloud nor uttering a word, only weeping silently.

In her dream state while unconscious, she would utter incoherent words, making it difficult to fathom her inner world.

In the depths of her dream, Jiang Huaiyu wept uncontrollably. Her cries were sometimes gentle as silk, sometimes heartbreaking. Sometimes she whispered, "Mother, Father," sometimes she murmured, "I have repaid your kindness, I owe you nothing more," and sometimes she lamented, "Deep in the courtyard, the years are silent, though I have great fame, I sit alone in solitude."

Her heart was filled with endless sorrow. Sometimes she would say, "Your heart is fickle, my heart is broken, and the promises we made were just empty words." Sometimes she would even say things that Yingxiang couldn't understand, such as, "Since it's over, why start over?" or "The world is impermanent, and cause and effect are cyclical. How ridiculous, how ridiculous."

But more often than not, she deeply missed the child who had not yet been born...

Jiang Huaiyu sobbed uncontrollably in her sleep, and Yingxiang could not wake her no matter what she did. She could only stay by her bedside silently, gently wiping away her tears and calling out softly, "Miss, Miss..."

Deng Shen was equally anxious. He imitated the sounds of cats and dogs, trying to bring a smile to Jiang Huaiyu's face, but his efforts seemed to be in vain.

Jiang Huaiyu's sorrowful state deeply pierced their hearts. Their only wish was for her to recover her health soon.

The two took great care of her, and Doctor Liang visited her daily to examine her pulse and adjust the treatment plan as needed. Day after day, Jiang Huaiyu's condition finally began to improve.

As the heat gradually subsided, she stopped crying during the day and her nightmares lessened at night.

One day, after taking sleeping pills, Jiang Huaiyu unexpectedly said, "I've been in bed for too long these past few days, and my muscles and bones are aching. Yingxiang, I want to go outside for some fresh air."

This was the first time she had spoken in several days. Yingxiang was almost moved to tears and quickly replied, "Okay, Miss, I'll arrange it for you right away!"

The sun was scorching and blinding at the end of April. There wasn't enough shade in the courtyard, so Yingxiang and Deng Shen moved the daybed to the porch, set out tea and snacks, and then carefully invited Jiang Huaiyu out.

Seeing that she was unusually interested, Deng Shen tried his best to make her laugh, and even did somersaults in the yard.

Jiang Huaiyu gently shook her head and said with concern, "Your injuries have just healed, be careful not to tear them open."

Deng Shen laughed and said in a relaxed manner, "Don't worry, young lady, I don't feel any pain at all!"

"Doesn't it really hurt?"

Yingxiang suddenly reached out and pressed on his wound, causing Deng Shen to scream in pain, "Ouch, Yingxiang, I was just trying to make the girl happy, what are you doing?"

Yingxiang explained gently, "Miss, you were worried about your injuries. I'm just checking to make sure you're recovering well. Come, let me examine you carefully again!"

"You're exposing my shortcomings, how can you be so unreasonable?" Deng Shen complained helplessly, but his eyes were full of doting and understanding.

In the courtyard, the two children chased and played happily. Jiang Huaiyu looked at them, the corners of her mouth slightly turned up, and shook her head helplessly, "Alright, the sun is scorching, don't tire yourselves out."

Deng Shen caught a glimpse of Jiang Huaiyu's smiling face and exclaimed with ecstasy, "Miss has finally smiled!"

Seeing her long-lost smile, Yingxiang felt a pang of sadness well up in her heart and murmured softly, "That's wonderful."

In the afternoon, Dr. Liang arrived as scheduled. After a thorough pulse diagnosis, the furrowed brows that had been tightly knit for days finally began to relax.

His eyes gleamed with undisguised joy as he said with relief, "That's wonderful! Miss Jiang has passed the critical period and is doing well. All our meticulous arrangements have finally paid off..."

"Is everything alright?" Yingxiang asked, slightly puzzled.

Dr. Liang coughed lightly and explained vaguely, "Oh, don't worry, in short, there's nothing serious now."

Then, he turned to Jiang Huaiyu, feeling sympathy for the injustices she had suffered in recent days. After some careful consideration, he couldn't help but ask, "Miss Jiang, have you experienced any major upheavals in the past?"

"Why do you ask that?" Jiang Huaiyu asked, her face full of confusion.

Dr. Liang smiled slightly and said in a heavy tone, "Miss Jiang, your condition is serious this time, but the reason is not just due to recent misfortunes. In other words, a miscarriage and divorce alone are not enough to make you so sick that you almost lost your life."

Jiang Huaiyu understood.

Yes, she has lived two lives. The sorrow of her past life and the wishes and worries of this life have all come together in this illness, making it truly unbearable.

She was about to speak when she saw that Dr. Liang was hesitant, so she asked, "Dr. Liang, what is it that you are hesitating to say?"

Dr. Liang chuckled twice, then sighed self-deprecatingly, "Alas, as I get older, I can't help but meddle in other people's business. Miss Jiang, I've been coming to diagnose you often these days, and I've gotten to know you quite well. You're a kind girl, so I can't just stand by and watch you fall into trouble."
