Chapter 171 Ingratitude

Jiang Huaiyu lowered her head, tears sliding down her clothes: "But, elder sister-in-law, do you know? The hatred in my heart can never be erased. My child almost died, and that pain makes it impossible for me to forgive him."

Madam Yang sighed and gently patted Jiang Huaiyu's shoulder: "I know you have the hatred in your heart, and I have had it too. But have you thought about it? Our children are innocent. We can't let them suffer unnecessary pain because of the grudges of adults."

Jiang Huaiyu raised her head, a resolute glint in her eyes: "Eldest sister-in-law, I know you're right, but I can't convince myself. I hate him, I hate that he made us lose our child."

Madam Yang was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "Huaiyu, do you know? When I lost my child, I also thought about revenge, about hating the person who caused me so much pain. But when I saw the look in your brother's and Bai Yujing's eyes, I knew they were victims too. Our hatred would only make this family more torn apart."

Jiang Huaiyu bit her lip tightly, her eyes flashing with pain and struggle: "Sister-in-law, I really don't know what to do. I'm scared, I'm scared of being hurt again."

Madam Yang gently grasped Jiang Huaiyu's hand, her eyes resolute: "Huaiyu, you must believe me. There is no hurdle in this world that cannot be overcome. Your brother and Bai Yujing are both good people, and they will definitely find a way to solve the problem. What you need to do is let go of the hatred in your heart, give them a chance, and give yourself a chance too."

Jiang Huaiyu looked at Yang Shi, a flicker of hesitation crossing her eyes. Clearly, her elder sister-in-law was right, but the hatred in her heart was as stubborn as a rock, impossible to shake.

Seeing this, Madam Yang sighed softly and said, "Huaiyu, I know you may not be able to accept what I'm saying right now, but please believe me, time heals all wounds. If you just try to forgive and understand, you'll find that the world isn't as bad as you imagine."

Jiang Huaiyu nodded silently, a resolute glint in her eyes: "Sister-in-law, I will try to do it, for the sake of the child and for my own sake."

Just then, Madam Bai suddenly burst into laughter, the sound echoing jarringly in the silent hall. She clapped her hands with delight, her eyes revealing an indescribable sense of satisfaction.

"Bai Qishi, what do you mean by this?" Madam Yang couldn't help but ask, her brows furrowed and her anger evident.

Bai Qi smiled slightly, looked at Yang, and said in a relaxed tone, "I was just thinking that my son Yujing finally has the opportunity to rise to prominence. Isn't that a joyous occasion?"

Madam Yang sneered, "Your son's meteoric rise is all built on Huaiyu's sacrifice. Don't you know that the Bai family's success today is all thanks to Huaiyu?"

Bai Qi scoffed, "She asked for a divorce herself, so who can she blame? Yujing was never meant for her, and now it's given him a chance. If he can marry the princess in the future, our Bai family's status will be incomparable."

Jiang Huaiyu listened quietly, a hint of bitterness flashing in her eyes. She slowly stood up and walked towards Bai Qishi, her voice calm yet firm: "Mother, I was the one who proposed the divorce, but I don't think it's a bad thing. There is no longer any affection between Yujing and me as husband and wife. Rather than forcing it, it's better for us to live our own lives peacefully."

Bai Qi's eyes widened as she looked at Jiang Huaiyu in disbelief: "You...you're talking back to me?"

Jiang Huaiyu smiled slightly: "Mother, I just want you to understand that my decision was not made on a whim. Moreover, I don't believe that Yujing's opportunity is because of my sacrifice. If he is truly capable, he can still achieve great success even without me."

Madam Yang nodded silently, her eyes revealing admiration for Jiang Huaiyu. She said, "Huaiyu is right. Her talent and ability are a great asset to our Bai family. Without them, how could the Bai family have achieved its current glory?"

Bai Qi's face turned ugly, and she slammed her hand on the table angrily: "Are you all joining forces to rebel against me?"

Jiang Huaiyu shook her head: "Mother, we just want you to understand that everyone has the right to make their own choices. I respect your opinion, but I also hope that you can respect my decision."

Bai Qi glared at Jiang Huaiyu, her eyes filled with resentment. She said coldly, "Fine, fine, you're all right. But don't forget, I'm your mother-in-law, and I'm still the one who calls the shots in this family."

Madam Yang couldn't help but interject, "Mother, times are changing. Women today are no longer just appendages of men. Huaiyu has her own talents and abilities, and she has the right to choose her own happiness."

Madam Bai sneered, "You make it sound so easy, but don't forget, this house belongs to me and the Bai family, not to you. If you feel it's not suitable, you can leave."

Jiang Huaiyu took a deep breath, looking at Bai Qishi with a determined look in her eyes: "Mother, I will not leave. This is my husband's home, and it is also my home. I will stay here and contribute my share to this family."

Bai Qi glared angrily at Jiang Huaiyu, while Yang stood beside Jiang Huaiyu, cheering her on.

Yang was furious. She glared at Bai Qi and said, "Bai Qi, what are you saying? How can you be so ungrateful for the great kindness Jiang Huaiyu has shown to our Bai family?"

Bai Qi sneered, looking at Yang with disdain, and said in a sharp tone, "Yang, you're just a country woman, how dare you lecture me here? Do you know Bai Yujing's future status and influence? Do you think you're worthy of our Bai family?"

Madam Yang's face darkened, and she was about to retort when Jiang Huaiyu walked in. He looked at Madam Bai Qi and said calmly, "Madam, Madam Yang is right. Our Bai family's success today is entirely due to the efforts of Madam Yang and her husband. If you treat Madam Yang like this, won't the world look down on our Bai family?"

Bai Qi's eyes widened as she glared at Jiang Huaiyu and shouted, "Jiang Huaiyu, how dare you lecture me? Don't forget, this is my Bai family, not your Jiang family!"

Jiang Huaiyu smiled slightly and said, "Madam, I have no intention of lecturing you. I just feel that we should cherish the people in front of us and not let past grievances affect the harmony of the family."

Yang was deeply grateful to Jiang Huaiyu for defending her, but it was clear that it was not the right time to argue further, so she stood silently to the side.

Bai Qi snorted, turned to Yang, and said, "Yang, do you think you can gain a foothold in our Bai family with Jiang Huaiyu's support? Let me tell you, dream on!"

Madam Yang bit her lower lip, about to speak, when Bai Jinxiao walked in. He looked at Madam Yang with concern in his eyes, then turned to Madam Bai Qi and said firmly, "Mother, Madam Yang is my wife, and I will never let her suffer any injustice. Jiang Huaiyu is right; we should be grateful to him, not turn our backs on him."

Bai Qi was stunned. She hadn't expected Bai Jinxiao to stand firmly on Yang's side, and she couldn't help but feel a little flustered.

Bai Jinxiao walked to Yang's side, took her hand, and said softly, "Yang, don't worry, I will protect you."
