Chapter 172 Difficulties

A hint of gratitude flashed in Yang's eyes as she tightly grasped Bai Jinxiao's hand.

Seeing this, Lady Bai Qi was furious. She glared at Bai Jinxiao and shouted, "Jinxiao, are you trying to rebel?"

Bai Jinxiao said coldly, "Mother, I am not rebelling. I just want harmony in the family and don't want to see relatives hurting each other."

Bai Qi was trembling with anger. Pointing at Bai Jinxiao, she said, "You...you...get out of here!"

Bai Jinxiao gently released Yang's hand, gave her a deep look, and then turned and left.

A pang of pain shot through Yang's heart, and tears welled up in her eyes.

Looking at the fierce-looking Bai Qi, Yang couldn't help but wonder, "What did I do wrong to deserve this treatment?" Sorrow flashed in her eyes, but she held back her tears, unwilling to show weakness in front of Bai Qi.

At this moment, Jiang Huaiyu walked over, gently took Yang's arm, and whispered, "Yang, don't be impulsive. There's no need to have a conflict with your mother-in-law over something like this. She is, after all, your mother-in-law. If things really get out of hand, you'll be the one who suffers."

Yang looked at Jiang Huaiyu, a hint of gratitude flashing in her eyes. She knew Jiang Huaiyu was doing it for her own good. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. However, Bai Qishi's words were like a sharp knife, piercing her heart.

Bai Qi looked coldly at Yang and said sarcastically, "Yang, do you think you can put on airs in front of me just because you've done a little for the Bai family? Let me tell you, what is your contribution? Who can you compare to?"

Madam Yang bit her lip, suppressing the bitterness in her heart. She didn't answer, because she felt any explanation would be superfluous. Jiang Huaiyu, however, couldn't help but speak up: "Mother-in-law, you know how much effort Madam Yang has put into the Bai family over the years. She's been diligent and hardworking, why do you treat her like this?"

Bai Qi glared at Jiang Huaiyu, her tone becoming even harsher: "Jiang Huaiyu, you have no right to speak here! You're just an outsider, how dare you lecture me?" After saying that, she turned to Yang Shi, "Yang Shi, let me tell you, in this house, I'm the one who calls the shots. If you're not satisfied, you can get out."

Yang finally couldn't hold back her tears and said in a trembling voice, "Mother-in-law, I'm not dissatisfied, but your words make me very sad. I'm willing to do anything for the Bai family, but I also hope to gain your approval."

Bai Qi looked at Yang with disdain and snorted coldly: "Approval? What qualifications do you think you have to make me approve? You are just a lowly woman. It is already a blessing for you to marry into the Bai family."

Jiang Huaiyu couldn't help but frown; she felt that Bai Qishi had gone too far. She gently tugged at Yang's sleeve, signaling her to stop talking. Yang, however, seemed oblivious. She raised her head, stared at Bai Qishi, and said firmly, "Mother-in-law, I know my status is lowly, but I also have my dignity. I am willing to sacrifice for the Bai family, but not to let you trample on my dignity."

Bai Qi's face darkened, and she said angrily, "Yang, how dare you talk back to me? You're courting death!" After saying that, she turned and walked towards the door.

As Yang watched Bai Qi's retreating figure, a chill ran through her. She knew this conflict was unavoidable. She turned to look at Jiang Huaiyu, a pleading glint in her eyes.

Jiang Huaiyu sighed softly. She knew the grievances in Yang's heart, but she also knew that she couldn't change Bai Qi's opinion in this family. She could only comfort Yang: "Yang, don't worry, I will try my best to help you. But you also know that in this family, the mother-in-law has the final say. You can only endure it and try not to clash with her."

Madam Yang nodded; she knew Jiang Huaiyu had done her best.

Jiang Huaiyu gently pulled Yang aside and whispered, "Sister-in-law, I know you are unhappy, but I do have my own difficulties. If I leave the Bai family, I do not want the relationship between Yang and Bai Qi to deteriorate because of me."

Upon hearing this, Yang's anger gradually subsided, but she still hesitated: "Sister, you don't know, this mother-in-law, she is really..."

Jiang Huaiyu smiled slightly and gently held Yang's hand: "Sister-in-law, I know your suffering. However, there are always some things in life that we cannot change. All I can do is try my best to make the people around me feel comfortable and not cause them any trouble."

Yang looked at Jiang Huaiyu, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes, and finally nodded and said, "Alright, Sister Yu, I'll listen to you."

Jiang Huaiyu turned to Bai Qishi, smiled slightly, and said, "Mother-in-law, I know you are dissatisfied with me, but I do have my reasons. I left the Bai family not because I wanted to strain your relationship with Yang Shi."

Bai Qi looked coldly at Jiang Huaiyu and said, "Are you threatening me?"

Jiang Huaiyu shook her head, her expression calm: "Mother-in-law, I know I can't satisfy you, but everything I've done is for this family. I'm leaving because of this family. I hope that after I leave, this family can still be harmonious."

Bai Qi looked at Jiang Huaiyu, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes, and finally said, "Since you've decided to leave, then leave. Just don't say anything about it being for the sake of this family anymore; it's disgusting to hear."

Jiang Huaiyu smiled slightly and said, "Mother-in-law, I know I can't make you understand, but everything I've done is from the bottom of my heart. I hope you can understand me after I leave."

Bai Qi snorted coldly and turned to leave.

Jiang Huaiyu watched Bai Qishi's retreating figure, a trace of sadness flashing in her eyes. She turned to look at Yang Shi and smiled gently, "Sister-in-law, I think I should go."

Looking at Jiang Huaiyu, Yang felt a complex mix of emotions. She stepped forward and embraced Jiang Huaiyu, saying, "Sister Yu, you must take care of yourself."

Jiang Huaiyu smiled slightly and gently patted Yang's back: "Sister-in-law, I will. You must also take good care of yourself and this family."

Madam Yang gently released Jiang Huaiyu, tears glistening in her eyes: "Sister Yu, you must be happy."

Jiang Huaiyu smiled gently, then turned and left.

Jiang Huaiyu's departure created a tense atmosphere in the Bai family. Madam Yang looked at Madam Bai Qi, her heart filled with helplessness.

Yang entered Bai Qi's room and looked at her cold face, feeling helpless.

Madam Yang took a deep breath and said, "Mother-in-law, Sister Yu has left. I hope you can let go of your resentment and let this family return to its former peace."

Bai Qi looked coldly at Yang and said, "Are you lecturing me?"

Madam Yang shook her head and said, "Mother-in-law, I just hope this family can get better."

Bai Qi looked at Yang, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes, and finally spoke: "I know you mean well. However, I can't easily let go of the resentment in my heart."

Looking at Bai Qi, Madam Yang felt utterly helpless. She knew that this family needed time to heal.

Madam Yang sighed softly and said, "Mother-in-law, we will give each other time and let time heal everything."

Bai Qi looked at Yang and nodded slightly.
