Chapter 182 Coincidence

After hearing this, Tu Wenying gently shook her head and turned to Jiang Huaiyu, saying, "Sister Jiang, what you're doing is really inappropriate. I understand you're worried about the academy, but we're all there, nothing will happen. You should put your health first."

Jiang Huaiyu showed her hand and explained, "I'm really fine. I'll go to the pharmacy when I get back this afternoon. The effect will be the same."

At this moment, Yuwei suddenly interjected, "How can porcelain break so easily without impact? This is an ominous sign. Miss Jiang, you must be extra careful to prevent any unforeseen events."

Everyone was stunned after hearing this.

Tu Wenying frowned and gently scolded, "Yuwei, what nonsense are you talking about? It's just a broken bowl. Perhaps it's because it's old, or perhaps it had a flaw when it was fired. How can you make such a fuss? In my opinion, it's good that it's broken. 'Broken pieces bring peace,' right?"

Jiang Huaiyu smiled and nodded, agreeing, "That's true."

Yuwei quickly apologized, "I spoke without thinking, Miss Jiang, please don't take it to heart."

Jiang Huaiyu waved his hand, not taking it to heart.

However, Yuwei's words turned out to be prophetic. Late that very night, a fire broke out at the inn where Jiang Huaiyu was staying.

As long-term guests, they paid monthly fees, so the innkeeper specially arranged for them to stay in the quietest and most secluded courtyard in the backyard.

After the inescapable ravages of flame, Jiang Huaiyu and his two companions were trapped in a raging inferno. Fire walls blocked their escape, and outside rescuers were helpless. Just as the merciless flames were about to engulf their small world, and despair enveloped them like a thick fog, a gentle rain fell from the sky, as if by divine mercy.

As night fell, a flash of lightning pierced the darkness of the inky sky, followed by a deafening clap of thunder.

The sweltering summer heat is accompanied by frequent thunderstorms.

Yingxiang reached out to catch the falling raindrops, her eyes blurry with tears as she whispered, "We're saved..."

The rain intensified, its force unstoppable, and the raging flames gradually waned in the timely downpour, finally allowing the three to catch their breath.

After a long while, the flames finally died down. The innkeeper rushed from the badly damaged front building into the still-smoking backyard and was overjoyed to find Jiang Huaiyu and the others safe and sound.

"What a miracle! You are all safe and sound. It is truly a blessing from heaven!"

After the fire broke out, he frantically directed the firefighting efforts while simultaneously evacuating panicked customers. Only after confirming that everyone inside the shop had safely evacuated did he suddenly remember that three customers were still staying in the backyard. But by then, the fire was out of control, and in despair, he could only silently pray that they would escape unharmed.

Fortunately, they miraculously survived!

The innkeeper wiped the moisture from his face and said, "You've all been frightened. The inn is now in ruins and no longer suitable for staying. Please leave with me for now."

Yingxiang found a cloak and draped it over Jiang Huaiyu, then carefully helped her walk towards the outside world.

A large crowd had gathered on the long street, mostly guests of the inn whose belongings had been destroyed in the fire. They were arguing with the innkeeper about compensation.

Jiang Huaiyu's courtyard was far from the center of the fire, and only two houses were affected. Deng Shen's residence was reduced to ashes. However, Jiang Huaiyu and Yingxiang's rooms were less damaged, and they had packed up their belongings before fleeing.

Jiang Huaiyu secretly rejoiced.

Fortunately, she had donated her dowry of books to the library of Fushun Academy earlier; otherwise, it would have been those precious books that would have been lost, not just a few pieces of clothing. Thinking of this, she couldn't help but smile bitterly.

"Those who survive a great calamity are bound to have good fortune in the future. Our losses are negligible. Besides, the rain outside is getting heavier, so there's no need to waste time here. Let's go and find a place to stay for the night."

In the pouring rain, the three of them, master and servants, were covered in mud and filth, each trying to outdo the other in their disheveled state.

Jiang Huaiyu's cloak was no match for the rain, and it soon became soaked through. Although it was early summer, the cold rain in the night still carried a biting chill. A gust of wind swept by, and she involuntarily shivered.

Upon seeing this, Yingxiang immediately waved her sleeve to shield her from the falling raindrops, while Deng Shen followed closely behind, carrying his luggage and silently keeping up.

In the dead of night, as the rain poured down, the three of them groped their way forward on the slippery path. Jiang Huaiyu slipped and lost her footing. Yingxiang hesitated for a moment before offering her help, but just as she was about to fall, a strong arm reached out and caught her.

"careful."

Upon hearing that familiar voice, Jiang Huaiyu was startled and looked up at him with a puzzled expression.

"Young Master Ling?"

Ling Mo tilted the oil-paper umbrella in his hand towards her, then handed the package in his arms to Yingxiang, turned his head and said gently, "The night rain is chilling, quickly help Miss Jiang change into this cloak."

Unpacking the package revealed a dry cloak.

Ling Mo turned his head slightly, and Deng Shen also took two steps back and turned to avoid him.

Yingxiang didn't hesitate any longer and quickly helped Jiang Huaiyu take off her soaked outer clothes and put this dry cloak on her.

After she was dressed, Ling Mo handed the umbrella to Ying Xiang, then opened another umbrella for himself and Deng Shen to use together.

Jiang Huaiyu asked curiously, "Young Master Ling, what brings you here?"

Ling Mo replied, "I just happened to be passing by and saw you here."

Jiang Huaiyu stroked the cloak she was wearing and asked doubtfully, "Is it really just a coincidence? These clothes and rain gear are also just coincidences?"

Ling Mo looked at her gently, "You're staying alone in the inn. Since we're old acquaintances, it's natural for me to care about your safety."
