Chapter 14 Such Prejudice

Bai Qi glanced at him, her brows furrowing slightly, and said sarcastically, "You talk a good game, but you probably just want to protect that new bride and keep her from ever lifting a finger, don't you?"

Bai Yujing smiled slightly and replied calmly, "That's not entirely true. My wife is delicate and gentle and not suited for heavy work. Fengyun needs a good teacher to guide her. Letting her serve as Fengyun's tutor will not only allow her to use her talents but also save on tuition fees. Wouldn't that be killing two birds with one stone and greatly reduce the burden on the family?"

This made sense, and Bai Qi turned to Jiang Huaiyu with a look of doubt.

"Do you have the ability?" Her tone was skeptical, but her eyes revealed anticipation.

Jiang Huaiyu gently raised the corners of his mouth, revealing a scholarly smile. "Although I have agreed verbally, my mother-in-law may still have doubts. Why not let me try it myself? I dare not presume to be arrogant. I may not be able to write those profound and complex policy essays, but when it comes to guiding a child of the right age, I am confident that I can help him pass the preliminary examination smoothly."

Bai Qi felt a little relieved. Although she didn't have much affection for this daughter-in-law, she had to admit that Jiang Huaiyu's unique scholarly charm was something that others couldn't imitate.

Besides, her son was never one to act rashly. Since he was so certain, Jiang Huaiyu must indeed have some extraordinary abilities. Therefore, she decided to let her give it a try.

"Then you shall begin to teach, but do not slack off. Since you have taken on the responsibility of teaching Fengyun, you must do your best."

"I see."

Bai Qi's face was serious, and her tone was firm: "As for what you just mentioned, supplementing the family income with embroidery, that should not be ignored either."

"Okay." Jiang Huaiyu nodded slightly.

While maintaining her dignity, Lady Bai was in a much better mood and left after the meal.

Jiang Huaiyu didn't eat much, and Bai Yujing, understanding that she had worked hard getting up early in the morning, accompanied her back to her bedroom to rest.

Xie Wenyin was nowhere to be found, and only the eldest son's family remained at the dining table, making the atmosphere somewhat lonely.

The two children laughed and chatted, enjoying the delicious food to the fullest. However, a cloud of worry still hung over Bai Jinxiao's brow.

He looked at his wife and asked doubtfully, "Do you really think my second sister-in-law has the ability to teach our Fengyun well?"

Upon hearing this, Madam Yang glanced at him lightly, her eyes showing a hint of dissatisfaction.

"Don't you always listen to your second brother's opinions? Why are you starting to doubt him now that he says your sister-in-law is capable?"

Bai Jinxiao sighed, looking somewhat helpless. "But she is, after all, a woman. In all my years, I have never seen a woman who can serve as a teacher."

Although Yang had her doubts about Professor Jiang Huaiyu teaching her son, she was immediately enraged when she heard her husband's words.

"So what if she's a woman? Bai Jinxiao, I never expected you to look down on women so much. You're truly an unfit husband!"

Bai Jinxiao was enraged by his wife's sudden scolding, and his face also showed anger.

"What's wrong with you? When did I ever say something like that?"

Madam Yang stood up angrily, her eyes wide with fury, staring directly at him. "I am indeed somewhat displeased with Jiang Huaiyu's behavior. After all, our main branch spent a lot of money and energy to bring her into the family, but she not only did not bring any dowry to supplement the household income, but she also could not share any household chores. Therefore, I am dissatisfied with her. But this does not mean that I doubt her abilities."

“Yesterday, a good show was staged in front of your house. Your mother openly criticized her future daughter-in-law. Surprisingly, she not only showed no anger, but was able to explain many profound principles in detail, which made your mother have to bow her head to this daughter-in-law who has not yet entered the family. For this alone, I have developed respect for her.”

Madam Yang sneered contemptuously, “I am nothing but an uneducated woman, destined to toil my whole life. I have nothing to say if you look down on me. But how is your second sister-in-law any less capable than you? It’s ridiculous that you start to doubt your second brother’s words just because she is a woman. I can hardly believe you have become so prejudiced.”

A hint of displeasure flashed across Bai Jinxiao's face. "Isn't what I'm doing all for Feng Yun's future?"

Madam Yang disagreed, saying, "I was hesitant before about letting my second sister-in-law teach my son, but now I sincerely hope she can train Fengyun to be even better and teach you arrogant men a lesson."

The couple got into another argument, and the two children were so frightened they didn't dare to breathe.

Bai Jinxiao looked bitter. "Jingfang, what's wrong with you today? It's not a big deal. I just mentioned it casually, but you've come back to argue so eloquently!"

Yang, however, led the two children out. As she was leaving, she glanced back and said softly, "I'm fine, I just haven't been as lucky as my second sister-in-law. You two brothers were born to the same mother, yet for some reason, the difference in your fates is so vast."

"you!"

Bai Jinxiao was so angry that he was speechless. In the end, he could only weakly bang on the table twice to express his anger and frustration.

...

Bai Yujing escorted Jiang Huaiyu back to her room, then said gently, "My dear wife, please rest for a while. I need to go to my study to review my lessons."

Jiang Huaiyu gently shook her head, a resolute look in her eyes. "Sister-in-law is already busy, it's probably not appropriate for me to stay in bed any longer. How about I come with you to the study and organize the books I brought?"

Bai Yujing smiled slightly, her eyes full of affection, "You've just stepped into the family, there's no need to rush to deal with these trivial matters."
