Chapter 43 Lantern Festival
After the Lantern Festival, the court's holiday ended.
On the morning of the Lantern Festival, Zhao Fangye dug Song Huaixi out of his quilt and said, "Wake up, little lazy cat. Today is the Lantern Festival. Do you still want to sleep until noon?"
Song Huaixi's eyes were hazy with sleep. When he was pulled up, he leaned into his arms and muttered, "I'm so sleepy, can I sleep a little longer..."
Song Huaixi fell into Zhao Fangye's arms in a daze, and her eyelids seemed to be glued shut and she couldn't open them at all.
"Just for a moment..."
Zhao Fangye hugged him helplessly, he really didn't know how this man could sleep so well. She stretched out her hand to lift his eyelashes and called him "lazy boy" but did not wake him up.
I held him and sat on the bed for a while. Half an hour had passed when Song Huaixi slowly woke up.
"woke up?"
Zhao Fangye pinched his nose and said, "Today is the Lantern Festival, you should eat Yuanxiao, but you are still so sleepy."
Song Huaixi smiled shyly at him, then quickly sat up and tidied herself up.
Zhao Fangye took his hand and sat down at the pear wood table, on which Chunhua had already brought two bowls of steaming hot Yuanxiao.
Looking at the Yuanxiao in the bowl, Song Huaixi frowned. He doesn't like eating Yuanxiao very much. Because the filling of Yuanxiao is very sweet.
He felt bored.
He picked up the spoon and scooped a few Yuanxiao from the bowl into Zhao Fangye's bowl. He finally stopped when there were only two or three left.
Zhao Fangye watched him quietly without stopping him, looking at the Yuanxiao piled up in the bowl.
He laughed and said, "Don't you like it?"
"Yeah." Song Huaixi nodded: "It's very sweet. I don't like it."
Knowing that he didn't like sweets, Zhao Fangye had expected this.
She scooped up a Yuanxiao, cooled it, and passed it to his lips, saying, "I know you don't like sweets, so I specially asked the kitchen to make it. It's not very sweet, try it?"
He took a skeptical bite, and the soft crust wrapped around the sweet but not greasy filling.
One bite will leave a lingering fragrance on your lips and teeth. It was completely different from the Yuanxiao that Song Huaixi had eaten before.
There was a gleam of surprise in his eyes. It was so delicious.
Song Huaixi took a few more bites and ate several Yuanxiao in one breath using Zhao Fangye's hand.
Nanny Zhang, who was serving at the side, was a little surprised when she saw him eat only half a bowl of rice.
Song Huaixi doesn't like sweets. When he was in the Song Mansion, he complained that the fillings of Yuanxiao were too greasy.
Usually I eat a few and then put them aside.
This is the first time I saw him eat half a bowl in one go.
He wanted to eat more, but Zhao Fangye withdrew his hand and fed the Yuanxiao into his own mouth. Song Huaixi looked at him eagerly as he came forward and wanted to eat more.
Putting down the bowl, Zhao Fangye put his finger on his lips and shook his head: "Yuanxiao is made of glutinous rice, which is sticky. Eating too much will cause bloating. Huaixi, don't be greedy."
"All right."
Knowing that he was doing this for her own good, Song Huaixi licked her lips. Although she felt a little unsatisfied, she still obeyed him obediently.
Looking at the Yuanxiao in his bowl, Song Huaixi said, "The Yuanxiao in the palace is delicious. It's the best Yuanxiao I've ever eaten."
Seeing that he looked like a greedy cat, Zhao Fangye raised the corners of his lips and couldn't help but feed him the last one.
"Since you like it, the efforts of the masters have not been in vain."
Zhao Fangye specifically instructed that the Yuanxiao should not be made too sweet as the princess would not like it.
Therefore, the kitchen made several styles of Yuanxiao and presented them to the princess for her to choose from.
But when it was presented, Song Huaixi was sleepy.
It was one of the dishes that Zhao Fangye picked out from several others, and unexpectedly it turned out to be exactly what Song Huaixi liked.
The most lively part of the Lantern Festival is at night.
Zhao Fangye held Song Huaixi's hand and walked on the street.
The streets are decorated with lights and are very bustling. Countless colorful lights are hung on both sides of the street.
The entire street was lit up as if it were daytime. The streets were crowded with people, who were laughing and talking, their faces filled with festive joy.
Vendors set up various stalls on both sides of the street, selling various snacks and toys.
Delicacies such as candied haws, sugar men, and cotton candy are mouth-watering, while toys such as paper windmills, masks, and lanterns attract the attention of many children.
Young ladies in seclusion also take advantage of the lively Lantern Festival to come out and have fun. They were dressed in gorgeous clothes, holding lanterns, and moving among the crowd.
Zhao Fangye has outstanding appearance and good temperament. Along the way, many beautiful girls looked at Zhao Fangye and gave him secret glances.
Zhao Fangye didn't care about the looks they gave him and maintained a cold attitude. But this made Song Huaixi, who was following him, very anxious.
Whenever a girl looked at Zhao Fangye, Song Huaixi would hurriedly step forward and stand in front of him.
To those whom he admired, he fiercely declared his sovereignty: "Don't look! It's mine! Don't look!"
Zhao Fangye was tall, and Song Huaixi only reached his shoulders, so there was no way she could cover his attractive face.
The girls looked at Song Huaixi's already childish face and pretending to be fierce.
I just think it's cute and not intimidating at all.
Zhao Fangye looked at him in front of him and stopped shopping.
He stood by his side with all his might, acting fierce to anyone who looked at him.
A strange feeling of satisfaction flashed through his heart, and there was a look of doting in his eyes.
Although he was happy to see that Song Huaixi cared about him, Zhao Fangye brought him out today to play with him.
I didn't want to disturb his interest because of these little things.
Holding his hand and stopping at a stall, Zhao Fangye picked up a mask and put it on his face.
He said to Song Huaixi: "This way no one can see my face. Are you relieved, Huaixi?"
After a careful check to make sure that Zhao Fangye's face was completely covered, Song Huaixi finally felt relieved.
Nodding: "Yeah!"
This way, Zhao Fangye is the only one who can see him, and no one else can snatch him away!
Just as he was thinking about it, a mask was put on his face, and Zhao Fangye bent down to tie the strap of the mask for him.
He leaned close to Song Huaixi's ear and breathed warmly, "I don't want Huaixi to be seen by others either."
Looking through the gaps in the mask, Song Huaixi could see Zhao Fangye's pale eyes and drooping eyelashes.
In the endless flow of people.
At this moment, Song Huaixi knew that they were in tune with each other. A warm feeling flows through my heart. He didn't shy away from the pedestrians passing by on the street.
Under the bright fireworks and the newly lit lights, Song Huaixi suddenly hugged Zhao Fangye's waist tightly: "Zhao Fangye! I really like you."
Not expecting his sudden confession, Zhao Fangye put his arm around his waist.
I held him in my arms and felt my heart tremble: "Me too."
Passers-by looked at them sideways and surrounded them, thinking that some young lady and young man dressed as men were attending the Lantern Festival to express their love.
They all started to cheer and applaud.
Being stared at by so many eyes at once, Song Huaixi's face beneath the mask turned red and hot. Struggling to get out of Zhao Fangye's arms.
Unexpectedly, Zhao Fangye's hand held him tightly in his arms. Zhao Fangye whispered, "What are you afraid of? You are my princess who was carried back to the palace in a sedan chair carried by eight men."
Song Huaixi was not afraid, just a little embarrassed. He actually didn't know what Zhao Fangye meant.
He had no idea about the formal marriage or the eight-man sedan chair.
But Zhao Fangye's gentle and low voice made him feel calm in the noisy crowd. He would feel safe as long as Zhao Fangye was around.
However, Zhao Jingshuo, who was wearing a bright yellow robe in the attic not far away, was attracted by the noisy voices downstairs.
Looking closely, wasn’t the person in the crowd Zhao Fangye? His eyes fell on the man in his arms. A dark light flashed across Zhao Jingshuo's eyes.
The girl in his arms must be a beautiful little beauty.
He held the wine glass and raised it to the two people in the crowd from a distance. Zhao Jingshuo suddenly came up with an idea.
His tone was sinister: "Interesting, Zhao Fangye, let's wait and see."
