Chapter 16
The next morning, Sheng Jin and I sat in the restaurant having breakfast.
He picks the wolfberry garnish on the barbecued pork with pickles, and out of the corner of his eye sees Su Heru washing his hands as usual as she peels the eggshell for him, as if the accident last night had never happened.
Su He had a pair of silver-rimmed glasses on his nose. They were blue-light blocking glasses. He forgot to take them off because he was looking at his phone just now.
This look is not common for him, and it adds a touch of scholarly elegance. The movement of his hands peeling the shells is as serious as carving a seal. Even the tiny broken shells have to be picked off cleanly. His thin knuckles are burned pink by the eggs.
He used a knife to split the egg in half, and then used a spatula to evenly spread a layer of Thousand Island dressing on it.
Su He handed over the prepared boiled eggs, but Sheng Jinyu didn't take them. Su He waited for a moment, then asked in confusion, "What's wrong? Don't you like this sauce?"
"Aren't you very good at guessing what I'm thinking? Guess it yourself." Sheng Jinyu wiped his hands nonchalantly with a tissue, then answered a phone call.
Su He: ...
Even though he was broad-minded, Sheng Jinyu would often make him feel a little angry.
He thought about it calmly, turned around, scooped out the egg yolk with a spoon, and stuffed a shrimp dipped in sauce into it.
Sheng Jinyu answered a phone call. He replied with three words, "Got it," and then hung up. He put down the phone and reached for the egg.
However, Su He pulled his hand back, making Sheng Jinyu's move in vain.
After receiving the questioning look, Su He pointed at his hand and reminded him: "Your hand has touched the phone. It's unhygienic. Wash it before eating."
Sheng Jinyu glanced at him and said bluntly: "You have so many rules, are you trying to choke me?"
"No, it's just that if you eat bacteria you'll get sick. You can't get sick again."
Su He was still thinking about the pork tripe and chicken soup that was hot on the stove. He put the eggs on a plate and hurried back to the stove.
The way he said this sounded as if Sheng Jinyu was a fungus petri dish that could easily be contaminated. I wonder if this was a disguised way of calling him difficult to please.
But after a while, there was a sound of hand washing coming from the kitchen, which sounded a bit perfunctory.
After breakfast, Sheng Jinyu went out slowly.
The call was from Secretary Chen, who asked him to go back to the Sheng family's old house. Sheng Jinyu was not so obedient and went back immediately after being called. He first went to the company to finish the meeting and approved several planning proposals. Then he set off leisurely to go back.
There is a statue of Guanyin in the study of the old house, which is out of tune with the surrounding decoration.
In the past, Sheng Jinyu was very taboo about it. Since childhood, whenever he failed to meet the standards set by his father, he would kneel in front of the Guanyin statue and reflect on his sins like a criminal confessing his sins.
Failure to meet the standards is a mistake.
Now when seeing the Guanyin statue again, Sheng Jinyu felt like washing his hands, burning incense and paying homage to it.
He watched the incense ash burn out and fall into the incense burner, and the smoke slowly dissipated, like an old man who was about to die, and his mood was different.
A few days ago, Sheng Jin and his grandfather, Old Man Sheng, suffered a stroke and were rushed to the emergency room. Fortunately, they survived, thanks to their experience in the battlefield when they were young. They are now recuperating in a nursing home and are cared for by a medical team 24 hours a day.
The old man had a close call with hell this time, but he managed to trick a lot of "ghosts" from the Sheng family, and they were all ready to make a move.
Sheng Zonglan stood at the window feeding a pond of koi, casually twirling the Buddhist beads in his hand, and lightly made a judgment on Sheng Jinyu's future.
"If you act too much like a loser, others will really treat you like a loser. It's time to calm down."
A few years ago, the Sheng family was in a bad situation and there were serious internal conflicts. Sheng Jinyu transferred his student status and went abroad to "eat, drink and have fun". The uncles and aunts in the Sheng family really thought that he had lost his mind and become decadent. This is how Sheng Jinyu got the reputation of a playboy outside.
Now that the true intention is about to be revealed, all the people are staring at the old patriarch who is about to die. It is time to show each other's cards.
He told Sheng Jin to "calm down", referring to all aspects.
"Give up racing. It's hard to climb high, but it's too easy to fall down. What's more, your life doesn't belong to you. You can't afford to die."
The implication is clear: the future heir of the Sheng family has become a rising star in the racing world. This is good news.
But if Sheng Jinyu finally falls in the future, it will be a disgrace to the Sheng family.
Sheng Jinyu had expected this outcome. He turned the mechanical watch on his wrist, his face expressionless. "Is that why you're so afraid of my death that you have someone watching me 24 hours a day?"
"I heard that you kept him at home. This young man is quite capable in managing his subordinates. It would be a bit of a waste of his talent to keep him at home." Sheng Zonglan answered the question irrelevantly.
Sheng Jin said coldly, "I think this position is quite suitable for him."
"Oh? He is different from the previous people, isn't he?" Sheng Zonglan spoke like a riddle, looked back at him and smiled.
"I quite like him, and it seems you do too."
Sheng Zonglan's words once again reminded him of Su He's identity. He had indeed been slacking off during this period.
"There's no need to seek approval from me. I can agree to your request, but there are conditions," Sheng Jinyu said.
"You've really grown up and learned to negotiate with me." Sheng Zonglan threw the fish food into the water, and all the fish in the pond swarmed over to grab it.
Sheng Jin and Tui gave Sheng's father an equity change agreement.
"Your people run the place so badly, why not give it to me?"
Sheng Zonglan looked at the transfer contract of Qiuge Club. His eyes changed for a moment, then returned to normal after a while. He chuckled and said, "Okay."

It rained that night and the air conditioner had been turned on too high these days. Su He didn't expect that this body was even weaker than his previous one. Even if he wrapped a thin coat over his short-sleeved shirt, it still couldn't stop him from sneezing occasionally.
There was a small piece of toilet paper stuck in one side of his nose, and he had a pair of glasses on his nose that he always forgot to take off.
At this moment, he was lying on a low stool next to the pearl fish tank. He was afraid of leaving fingerprints on the clean side of the fish tank, so he just leaned against the side and stared at it for more than ten minutes.
Sister Ling had been cleaning the house last night. When she entered the living room and saw this, she asked, "Ah He, what are you looking at? Are you catching a cold? The air-conditioning in the room is so cold. I'll ask the cook to make you some ginger soup to cool you down."
"Thank you, Sister Ling. Do you know what was in this fish tank before? Why can't I see it?"
Su He was still thinking about what Sheng Jinyu said last night. He used lens paper to wipe the lenses of his glasses until they were shiny and bright. His eyes were about to hurt, but he still didn't see any living creatures in the fish tank except the goldfish.
"I don't know about that."
Sister Ling usually doesn't stay in the villa for long. The servants in Xiaoxie Garden all live in a separate building, which is quiet and available at any time. She happened to have been assigned something today, so she stayed for a while longer.
She added, "The young master doesn't really like to keep living things at home, so naturally he didn't discuss it with us. Why don't you ask him later?"
Just then, Sheng Jinyu came down the spiral staircase from the second floor. Sister Ling smiled at him and said, "What a coincidence! Ah He was just about to ask you what rare species you have in that fish tank. I see that there's nothing else in there besides Ah He's two fish."
Sheng Jin didn't react at first. He paused at the stairs and then remembered that he had made it up to scare people that night, and it was surprising that he still remembered it.
He looked at Su He and said, "Are you really stupid or are you just pretending to be stupid? I don't even need to bother to deceive you. I just beckoned you and you took the bait."
Su He exclaimed, "Huh?" He leaned over the fish tank and took a closer look before muttering, "But it's strange. Why don't you raise fish if you have a fish tank?"
"With pleasure." Sheng Jinyu really didn't want to admit that it was water that had entered his brain.
He put on a loose and comfortable tights and adjusted his sports bracelet, probably going to the gym.
Sister Ling happened to be looking for him for something. She stopped him and came over with the things in her hand. She asked uncertainly, "Ah Yu, are we really going to throw all this away? We've saved these for a long time. They're so valuable. It would be a shame to throw them away."
Su He's attention was drawn over, and he discovered that Sister Ling was holding a disc with the words "Replay of the 11th City Rally in XX" engraved on the cover, and Sheng Jinyu's name was also engraved on the side.
Similar CDs filled a small storage box behind Sister Ling.
They are all replay videos of Sheng Jin and the racing competition, and the complete ones cannot be found on the Internet.
Sheng Jinyu took the CD and seemed to be hesitant. He only kept his eyes on it for a few seconds before throwing it into the trash can beside him.
Feng Qingyun turned around calmly and said, "Throw it away."
After a while, the servants brought in several boxes containing some magazines and other items. The contents of one of the boxes looked quite familiar.
Su He had seen it when he first arrived. It was Sheng Jinyu's trophy.
"What happened? 037, do you know?" Su He got down from the stool and squatted down to ask S037 beside him.
S037 swung his mechanical head back and forth. "The young master gave this order as soon as he returned from the old house. I didn't dare ask why."
"But doesn't he like racing?"
Su He looked at the direction Sheng Jinyu left, but couldn't find anyone.
"Yeah, let me tell you a secret. Jinzai has been driving since he was eight years old. He got his driver's license in Country A at 16, and the next day he participated in an off-road race! As he was going through the last mud pit, a rock broke his car window, and Jinzai got splashed with mud. He looked like a mud monkey when he received his award!"
S037 asked him: "I still have photos, do you want to see them?"
"Is it okay?" Su He said uncertainly.
"Of course, just don't let him know!" S037 said, and then displayed a picture on the screen.
Su He moved closer curiously. The boy in the photo had tender features and an upright figure. He was such a clean person, but his whole body was covered in mud. Even so, he still looked proud while holding the trophy.
There was still an arrogance in Sheng Jinyu's eyes that was hard to conceal, not as gloomy as it is now.
Su He suddenly remembered the golden retriever he raised as a child, which fell into a mud pit and rolled around.
He couldn't help laughing out loud.
"Then Chairman Sheng punished him by making him kneel down, but what was the use? The young master still dared to continue doing it!" S037 added.
Su He looked at the trophies and DVDs that were about to be thrown away. Those were probably Sheng Jinyu's proudest memories and honors.
What happened to make him give up something he had been obsessed with for a long time?
