Chapter 1 Accidentally Entering Beijing's Social Circle
"Where did this guy come from? He looks so poor and shabby."
"Hehe, carrying a bag of urea~ Ugh, it smells terrible just looking at it, honey, let's get away from him quickly."
The weather was hot, and Cong Chun's face was flushed from the sun. He could barely hear the sarcastic remarks around him.
After all, I'm currently in "super power-saving mode" and I'm so tired I want to bang my head on the floor.
Not long ago, Cong Chungang learned his college entrance examination results. After resting at home for a few days, he traveled to the capital city of Jinghai.
Cong Chun was slender with a smooth neck and a back as straight as a newly sprouted bamboo. He had been fair-skinned since childhood.
Although I grow vegetables in the fields every day, I never get tanned no matter how much sun I get.
The boy was wearing a faded short-sleeved shirt, a pair of old-fashioned black canvas shoes with the soles coming unglued, and a worn-out yellow urea bag on his shoulder with the words "45% nitrogen content" clearly marked on it—a classic NPC outfit from a game's starting village.
Cong Chun's home is in a remote mountain village called Huai Shui Village. After finishing the college entrance examination, he followed his grandmother's advice and came to Jinghai to stay with his uncle, and also went to the city to work.
My uncle was initially reluctant, but when he heard from my grandmother on the phone that he had been admitted to Yenching University, his attitude completely changed, and he happily welcomed him.
When Cong Chun arrived at his uncle's house, he was first asked to tutor the children in the family. Cong Chun diligently taught them for a week and also took the initiative to do housework on weekdays.
Even the money for grocery shopping these past few days was paid by him... However, Cong Chun's poverty was stable and very consistent; even when a typhoon came, he remained unmoved.
He originally planned to work a summer job to make up for the shortfall in tuition and living expenses at university.
However, last night, when Cong Chun mentioned his plans to his uncle at the dinner table, his aunt scolded him, calling him an ungrateful wretch who had fallen for money.
That very night, Cong Chun was kicked out and became a homeless man with nowhere to go.
Cong Chun couldn't help but purse his lower lip and sniff. He had slept in the park last night, and his droopy dog-like eyes were a little red, with a few red bumps from mosquito bites on his neck.
He doesn't have much money left and has nowhere to live.
So, today Cong Chun mustered up the courage to come to the school and ask if he could move into the school dormitory ahead of schedule.
The boy, with heavy steps, looking like a wilted cabbage in the field, arrived at the entrance of the security office of Yenching University.
The young couple standing nearby, seeing his actions, both showed expressions of disdain.
"This country bumpkin probably thinks Yenching University is some kind of refugee camp, doesn't he? That's ridiculous."
"I bet he doesn't know many characters, he can't even recognize the four characters 'Yanjing University' written on the gate."
Hearing the commotion outside, the security guard at the door peeked out the window, then took off his hat from the wall and came out of the cool, air-conditioned room.
His thick lips moved as he shouted at the people outside the door, his voice carrying a local accent.
"What are you all arguing about at the door?"
The young couple exchanged a smile, said nothing, and looked on as if they were watching a good show.
Cong Chun took the initiative to step forward, a conflicted and troubled look on the boy's fair and handsome face.
"Hello, security guard, I'd like to ask if there are any spare beds at the school that I can stay in?"
The security guard glanced at Cong Chun's attire, and seeing the intelligent-looking man in front of him with a docile tone, he couldn't help but feel a little pity. "From the South?" He deliberately lowered his voice.
"Excuse me, are you a student at our school?"
Hearing their conversation, the young couple next to them covered their mouths and laughed even harder, while Liu Zheng secretly took out his phone to record a video.
Cong Chun nodded, unzipped the stiff zipper, and took out the admission notice from his backpack.
The words "Yanjing University" were prominently printed in gold on it.
"Yes, I am a freshman admitted this year, Cong Chun, majoring in architecture."
Since they were students of their school, the security guard raised his voice and shouted at the two of them to drive them away.
"Unauthorized personnel are not allowed to linger here. This is the entrance and exit area for school vehicles."
"Let's go quickly."
Liu Zheng's expression changed instantly. He's just a lowly gatekeeper, why is he yelling at him?
The next second, Liu Zheng pointed at Cong Chun, his tone displeased.
"And this person? Isn't he just another nobody?"
"Hey, you can't understand human language, can you? This is a student from our school."
"Hurry up, the school cars are coming out. We won't be responsible if any trouble happens."
Upon hearing the security guard's words, Liu Zheng's face instantly turned ashen. How could this country bumpkin possibly have gotten into this school!
His father hired so many famous tutors to give him extra lessons, but he still only scored a little over 150 points!
Besides, what right does this lousy security guard have to yell at him like that? His father is a well-known figure in Jinghai, and everyone respects Liu Zheng by calling him "Young Master Liu."
Liu Zheng, with his neck stiffened, pointed directly at the two men and started cursing.
Cong Chun had no experience arguing with others, and his face was completely red, whether from the scorching sun or from being scolded so badly, it was hard to tell.
A moment later, a low-key, jet-black Lexus drove out of the Yenching University campus.
The driver saw that there were still people standing in front of the barrier gate, so he honked the horn.
Liu Zheng was already furious when he was caught off guard by the piercing sound of a car horn. He became enraged and started cursing at the driver.
"Damn, are you crazy?"
"Can't you see I'm furious?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the left door of the Lexus suddenly opened, and a tall young man got out of the car.
He was wearing a simple black short-sleeved T-shirt, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, his figure comparable to a top male model, and he exuded a cold and oppressive aura.
Cong Chun looked over, her pupils dilating slightly. The boy in front of her was so tall and so handsome.
The man who got out of the car had a pair of beautiful, narrow, almond-shaped eyes with upturned corners. His eyebrows and eyes were delicate yet heroic, and his skin was fair and smooth, like flawless porcelain.
The boy had a brow bone piercing and a black obsidian earring on his right earlobe that gleamed coldly in the sunlight, exuding a flamboyant personality and a noble air.
Duan Mingxiao had a sour look on his face. He had recently broken his leg while racing and couldn't touch a race car for several months.
He was already in a bad mood lately, and then he ran into a complete idiot today.
The boy was using crutches, and someone offered to help him, but Duan Mingxiao refused.
He's a germaphobe; no one is allowed to touch him.
It was then that Cong Chun noticed that the handsome boy had a thick cast on his left leg and could only walk with the help of crutches, so his movements were somewhat slow.
Duan Mingxiao's dark eyes stared at Liu Zheng with a menacing and somewhat frightening gaze. His tone was cold and arrogant, making one's spine tremble.
"You big idiot, what are you doing blocking the road?"
"What, trying to extort money from me, or are you tired of living and want to get hit by a car?"
