The story of his father choosing beauty over power spread throughout the Custer family and caused a sensation. Later, the old man suppressed the matter and forbade anyone to mention it again.
But even though his father gave up the position of heir, those ambitious people still refused to let him go, and they acted even more cruelly and ruthlessly in private.
These were the first words he said when he walked into the room, "Do you ever regret it?"
I didn't expect him to ask this question suddenly. Old man Custer was stunned and his expression suddenly became complicated.
"No."
He answered decisively, without even a hint of hesitation.
"The family marriage is also for your father's own good. As the heir of the Custer family, it is only right for him to make some sacrifices. It was he who chose beauty over the throne." There was a hint of blame in his tone when he said the latter part.
After he finished speaking, Shen Mo spoke, "That's not what I'm asking."
He raised his head, looked at him with deep eyes, and said word by word, "You knew about my parents' death a long time ago, didn't you? Yet you didn't stop them. You watched them being murdered before your eyes. Do you regret it?"
Old Master Custer was startled, his expression became unnatural for a moment, but he regained his composure the next second.
"Whether you believe it or not, I have to tell you that I only found out about what happened after your parents passed away. You asked me if I regretted it, but I actually want to ask Karen if she regrets it."
He curled his lips and sneered, "Does he regret choosing your mother? Does he regret giving up his position as heir? Does he regret not asking me for help?"
As long as he is willing to listen to him and come back to beg him, he will not stand idly by.
Shen Mo looked at him intently for a moment, his voice cold, "I can answer your question on behalf of my father."
"He doesn't regret choosing my mother, nor does he regret giving up his position as heir. He said that to him, my mother is more important than anything in the world."
Old man Custer frowned and instinctively cursed Shen Mo in front of him, "How stupid!"
In a state of excitement, he slammed the armrest of the sofa and said in a more serious tone, "How many people have fought for the position of heir, but he was the only one who was stupid enough to give up everything for a woman."
The old man has been able to call the shots all his life. All he cares about is supreme power and the interests of his family. Talking about feelings with him is just a waste of time.
Therefore, Shen Mo didn't want to argue with him about this matter.
He dropped the subject and went straight to the point, "Tell me, what do you want from me?"
Old Master Custer looked at him and his expression softened. "Ever since I knew you existed, I've always wanted to take you back. I've been looking for you all these years."
"You carry the purest blood of the Custer family. I can't let you wander around out there. Besides, I don't think you want to live in hiding forever."
Shen Mo looked at him, his lips slightly raised, a cold smile in his eyes, "Let me go back, then what?"
"Shen Mo, I can see that you are a smart child, so don't be as emotional as your father." Hearing the sarcasm in Shen Mo's words, old man Custer felt that he was still a child who had not grown up and was acting on impulse.
"As long as you come back with me, the position of heir will be yours sooner or later."
This is when they started to paint a rosy picture for him.
Shen Mo sneered in his heart. He had already seen clearly what kind of person the old man was. He could only believe three-tenths of his words.
"Will my uncles agree to give me the position of heir?" He leaned back and crossed his long legs casually.
The old man's words were full of strength, "I am the only one who has the final say in the Custer family."
Shen Mo said calmly, "You can ask me to go back, and let me deal with the murderer who killed my parents."
Hearing this, not only was Mr. Custer not angry, but he laughed instead.
His tone was full of satisfaction, "You are more courageous than your father."
His voice paused. Shen Mo knew he had something else to say, so he waited quietly.
Then I heard the old man say, "It's impossible to give it to you. You have to get what you want with your own ability. The prerequisite is that you have to come back with me first and listen to me."
Having said that, Shen Mo didn't need to keep him hanging. "Okay, I'll go back with you, but I have a condition."
"you say."
"Don't make things difficult for Uncle Che."
Old Master Custer looked at him deeply and smiled faintly, "Don't worry, I won't make things difficult for him. After all, he has been taking care of you all these years."
Shen Mo asked, "When are we leaving?"
"We'll be leaving soon. If you need to get your luggage, I can have someone take you back to get it." said the old man.
Shen Mo stood up, not wanting to stay with him any longer. "No need. I brought my luggage with me. It's in the car."
Hearing this, the old man was stunned again, and the look in his eyes when he looked at him became intriguing, "You guessed long ago that I would want to go back with you?"
Shen Mo lowered his eyes and met his gaze impartially, "Isn't this why you sent someone to look for me?"
After hearing this, Mr. Custer suddenly laughed and said, "You are smarter than I thought."
Knowing that the old man was suspicious by nature, Shen Mo was afraid that he would think too much, so he could only use Shi Che as a shield.
"Don't forget what you promised me, not to embarrass Uncle Che."
Old Master Custer nodded and said, "Don't worry, I'll do what I say."
In the living room next door, the coffee on the table was almost getting cold. Shi Che didn't touch it, and his eyes occasionally glanced towards the door.
Suddenly, the door opened and Shen Mo walked in.
Shi Che immediately stood up, walked quickly to him, and asked in a low voice, "How is it? Did the old man give you any trouble?"
