After all, she is his own daughter. Seeing her like this, how could the Second Elder not feel distressed?
He put his hand on her head, patted it gently, and said in a much softer tone, "Ah Xin, people must pay the price for their mistakes. We should also be grateful for the kindness others show us, and not repay kindness with hatred."
"The past is the past. Jianwen is a good boy. Don't let these things ruin him."
Xie Xin said nothing, leaning against his legs, silently shedding tears.
Seeing this, the second elder didn't say anything else and sighed silently.
After a while, the father and daughter returned to the ward and saw that An Jianwen had woken up and was sitting on the bed.
When An Jianwen saw the Second Elder, a weak smile appeared on his pale face. "Grandpa, why are you here?"
"Why am I here?" The Second Elder walked to the bedside and looked at his pale face. His expression softened. "How is it? Are you feeling unwell?"
An Jianwen hid his bandaged hand under the quilt and said in a light tone, "It's not that serious, just a small cut."
Xie Xin, who was standing not far away, heard this and her eyes trembled, and a sense of guilt surged in her heart.
The Second Elder turned to look at her and said, "Your mother has been talking about missing you guys lately. Please have someone pack their bags. After Jianwen is discharged from the hospital, you can move in with us for a while."
Xie Xin nodded silently.
Just then, the bodyguard's voice came from the door.
"Young Master."
An Jianwen was stunned. The second elder turned to look at the door, and An Ci just raised his hand to knock on the door.
“Knock, knock.”
Meeting the Second Elder's gaze, she asked, "Second Elder, is it convenient for me to come in?"
"It's convenient." An Jianwen answered first.
Hearing his voice, An Ci looked towards the bed, but his view was blocked by the second elder standing beside the bed.
She walked over slowly, and saw Xie Xin standing beside her out of the corner of her eye, and greeted her politely.
"Thank you, Auntie."
Xie Xin raised her hand to smooth the hair by her ear, trying to hide her red eyes from crying. She said "hmm" vaguely.
An Ci walked to the bedside, looked at An Jianwen with clear eyes, and when he saw his pale face, he immediately understood.
He lost too much blood, so he should have been sent to the hospital in time.
"I just had a minor injury. How did you get alarmed?" An Jianwen curled his lips, and the smile on his face seemed more genuine.
Noticing that one of his hands was hidden under the quilt, An Ci tactfully kept silent and said, "I wanted to ask you out for dinner."
An Jianwen smiled and said, "Okay, I'll treat you when I'm discharged from the hospital."
An Ci raised the corner of his mouth, "No, I can't let you treat me every time. This time it's my turn."
An Jianwen turned his head to look at the Second Elder and said, "Grandpa, I want to talk to Xiao Ci for a while."
The second elder understood, "Ah Xin, come out with me, I want to talk to you about something."
Xie Xin looked at An Ci deeply, then followed the second elder out.
Seeing the ward door closed, An Jianwen withdrew his gaze and looked at An Ci, "Don't stand, sit down."
An Ci pulled a chair and sat down. Since they were the only two here, she spoke without hesitation, "Are you okay, Brother Wen?"
Seeing that he couldn't hide it from her, An Jianwen pulled his hand out from under the quilt, and the bandage wrapped around his wrist was exposed to An Ci's eyes.
Is it really wrist cutting?
She blinked, her expression a little strange.
"What are the rumors in the family? Tell me." An Jianwen asked calmly, as if he was an outsider.
Since he asked, An Ci answered directly, "Say you committed suicide by cutting your wrists."
An Jianwen smiled softly when he heard this, as if he had expected this rumor.
He leaned back, "Do you believe it?"
"Not really." An Ci crossed his legs and spoke lazily, "After all, it sounds fake."
An Jianwen raised his eyebrows and jokingly said, "It seems that our little Ci is still smart."
He didn't explain why, and An Ci didn't ask further. He just asked, "What did the doctor say?"
"It's nothing serious, I just accidentally cut myself. I should be able to be discharged from the hospital the day after tomorrow." An Jianwen said it easily, but his pale face still betrayed him.
"I heard your club opened today, congratulations."
An Ci smiled, "When you're better, let's go to the club and have fun together."
An Jianwen laughed, "It's okay to watch, but forget about playing. I'm good at playing musical instruments, but forget about racing."
The two chatted for a while, and An Ci suddenly straightened his face, "Brother Wen, if there is anything I can help you with, just let me know."
An Jianwen stared into her eyes. The three-year-old child in his memory had grown a lot, but the pure sincerity in her eyes remained unchanged.
He hid the deep thought in his eyes and said with a smile, "I want to eat roasted sweet potatoes."
An Ci was stunned for a few seconds, then reacted and said, "That's easy. When you're better, let's call Eric to go to the vegetable garden and roast sweet potatoes together."
An Jianwen paused his smile and asked jokingly, "Xiao Ci, if Eric and I fell into the river at the same time, who would you save first?"
The sudden question was too nonsensical. An Ci was confused and asked in confusion, "You two can swim, and you still need me, a landlubber, to save you?"
“…”
An Jianwen's mouth twitched. Yes, how could he forget that she couldn't swim.
"I mean, if." He changed his train of thought and continued, "If you only have one baked sweet potato, would you give it to me or Eric?"
An Ci looked at him with a "you're weird" look, puzzled, "How could there be only one? I always bake five or six."
"Besides, what's there to argue about over a roasted sweet potato? Just roast it if you want to eat it."
