Chapter 13 No need to thank my husband after the rain.
Chen Cheng opened the door angrily.
If you don't open the door, he might start singing outside.
Song Jili lazily leaned against the door frame, smiled nonchalantly, and asked, "You don't want to wait for me to finish before giving me the secret code?"
He raised his eyes and looked around the room. Apart from being a little dark, there was nothing wrong. He made sure that she was not upset and felt relieved.
"Do you want to continue?" Song Jili noticed her red eyes and pressed them with his fingertips.
"Is he really a rabbit? Then let's sing the bunny version this time."
Rather than being a little rabbit, it is more like a lamb that can be manipulated at will, and is incredibly docile.
Chen Cheng had just finished crying and his head was buzzing. He was too lazy to argue with him, so he turned around and sat back on the sofa.
Hearing the sound of the suitcase wheels rolling, she frowned and looked over, thinking it was very noisy.
Song Jili treated this place as his own home and squatted on the floor to unpack and organize his luggage.
Chen Cheng went to the side hall, sat in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, closed the white gauze curtain to separate a small space, hugged his legs, and stared quietly at the main building opposite, worried about Chen Aoshuang's physical condition.
She was really afraid that if no one notified her at the last moment, she would miss the chance to see Chen Aoshuang for the last time.
The cool little western-style building is in stark contrast to the bustling main villa opposite.
There's nothing to be sad about, as she is not one of the people who likes to be lively.
All the excitement and laughter had nothing to do with her, but thanks to Chen Aoshuang, she could stand closer and mistakenly thought that all the happiness had something to do with her.
"Little Orange."
Song Jili's voice rang out overhead.
He casually lifted the curtain with two fingers, sat down unceremoniously on the empty seat on the windowsill, and intruded into her territory recklessly.
Chen Cheng frowned and glared at him.
I wondered if this person had no vision.
Can't you see that she's not in the mood to talk to anyone?
"Are you hungry?" Song Jili asked her gently.
Chen Cheng subconsciously touched his stomach. He didn't feel anything before he asked, but once he asked, he really felt hungry.
The Shen family members are all busy and hope that she will not come back. No one will care whether she has eaten enough.
Her little action amused Song Jili, and he said with a smile: "I'll go get something to eat and then take a nap."
Chen Cheng was afraid to sleep and shook his head.
"Uncomfortable?"
Chen Cheng glanced at him. Isn’t he asking the question even though he already knows the answer?
"That's because you didn't eat enough. You'll feel much better after you eat. Don't worry. If anything happens, I'll call you, okay?" Song Jili raised his hand and smoothed her messy hair bit by bit.
He obviously didn't intentionally speak to her in a gentle tone, but he was the only one besides Chen Aoshuang who spoke to her in a soft voice since she returned to the Shen family.
Chen Cheng pulled down his hand and wrote slowly on his palm.
--Thank you.
Song Jili pinched her face and said, "No need to thank your husband."
After teasing her, he walked towards the kitchen with steady steps.
Chen Cheng covered the place where he pinched her, stunned for a few seconds. She should have been angry, but looking at his busy back, her heart felt warm, as if filled with a humid summer breeze, caressing her sticky skin, making it not so heavy and a lot lighter.
From the time they met until now, he had not deliberately said anything to comfort her. He just asked her to have a meal and a sleep. Unconsciously, the emotions that had been accumulating in her heart and could not be digested melted away little by little.
Song Jili’s cooking skills are pretty good, and Chen Cheng was really hungry, so he was able to finish a whole bowl of rice.
After digesting the food, she took a bath to stay awake and lay on the bed in her pajamas, not feeling sleepy at all.
She opened her phone every few minutes to check messages, hoping that Chen Aoshuang was really dying and someone would send her a message.
When Song Jili came in, she hid her cell phone under the quilt.
Because Song Jili came directly over with his luggage and all his clothes ready for a change, he had already changed into a clean home outfit and was sitting on the sofa in the bedroom to do his work.
They are in the same space, each busy with their own things and not disturbing each other.
Suddenly, the keyboard sounds disappeared, the other side of the bed sank, and a small corner of the quilt was lifted.
Song Jili lay down.
Chen Cheng poked her head out from under the soft silk quilt and looked at him, her eyes full of surprise.
"The certificate has been torn down, so you are not qualified to sleep in the bed?" Song Jili rested his head on his arms and leaned back lazily.
It’s not that Chen Cheng didn’t let him go to bed, it’s just that he was not used to sleeping with someone.
"Can't sleep? Come and chat." Song Jili patted the empty seat in front of him in a friendly manner.
Chen Cheng paused for a few seconds and moved to the position he pointed to.
There was a flash of surprise in Song Jili's eyes for a second, but he quickly concealed it.
She kept a serious look on her pretty face, which was pale and sickly, and he was just teasing her and didn't really think she would do it.
This little lamb is so sweet and gentle to the core.
Noticing her ears that were red as hell and about to bleed, Song Jili stopped teasing the little girl and stretched out his long arms to hold her in his arms.
Chen Cheng cried out in surprise, but couldn't make any sound, with her mouth slightly open.
His big hands were on her waist, and she couldn't move, so she had to lie on his chest.
The heartbeat is strong, and everything around me feels quiet. Only by listening to the sound of life can the shadow of death be overcome.
Song Jili said, "Pack your luggage in the next two days and return to Jiangdu after the matter is settled. You can live in either of the two houses under my name."
Chen Cheng stuck his head out and blinked.
"Or do you have somewhere you want to go? Maybe after going to Jiangdu, you won't come back to Beijing for a long time in the future." Song Jili couldn't figure out how the girl felt about living in a strange city.
Jingbei brought too many sad things to Chen Cheng, so it was good for him to leave.
If Chen Aoshuang left forever, she would be the orphan with nowhere to go.
At this time Song Jili appeared and told her that she still had a place to go and she still had a home.
There is no way not to be moved.
Chen Cheng nodded seriously.
"Close your eyes, you're really going to turn into a rabbit spirit." Song Jili covered her eyes, wrapped her tightly in a quilt, and held her firmly in his arms.
Chen Cheng closed his eyes obediently, getting sleepy.
Maybe the packed schedule in Tibet was too tiring, Song Jili fell asleep before her.
His breath was long and sprayed on her cheeks.
She looked at him quietly, her eyes tracing his face, and judged from his face that he had been severely sleep deprived recently.
He showed no sign of being upset at all, but instead tried his best to comfort her who was immersed in sorrow.
Chen Cheng questioned his initial impression of him.
If it was just about the novelty, he wouldn't have to take her mood into consideration.
But, I can't think of a reasonable answer.
The atmosphere in the room was groggy and his consciousness became hazy. Chen Cheng leaned on Song Jili's shoulder and gradually felt sleepy.
Chen Cheng hasn't dreamed about the days in the orphanage for a long time.
She grew up with her grandparents and never saw her parents.
In my memory, my grandparents always had kind smiles on their faces. She often accompanied my grandpa to set up a stall at the entrance of the community to sell calligraphy and paintings, while my grandma would cook at home and wait for them.
The peaceful days were disrupted by a car accident. She was the only survivor and became an orphan from a left-behind child.
That was her first encounter with death. She cried so hard that she was out of breath several times. She only cared about her grandparents and was very resistant to contact with outsiders.
She was too difficult to comfort, and no one could take the time to slowly coax her into good shape, so she was sent to an orphanage, which was the only place she could go.
She lived in the orphanage for a year. She didn't like to communicate with others and always squatted in a corner, drawing on the sand with a branch.
She could speak originally, but because she was tired of communicating, she gradually stopped making any sound. The orphanage was also supported by kind-hearted people in the society. There were many children and it was barely enough for them to have enough food and water. There was no money to hire a psychologist to intervene for her, so they simply regarded her as dumb.
Until Chen Aoshuang came to the orphanage, she was one of the few orphans with healthy bodies. In order to get someone to take her away, the director worked hard to beautify her. She went from being mute to becoming aphasic due to stimulation.
Chen Aoshuang looked at each child carefully, squatted down and asked each child if she was willing to be her daughter, and a particularly obedient daughter.
It was not difficult for Chen Cheng to just be obedient, as her grandparents always praised her for being obedient.
She wanted to -
She is good at listening.
Before winter came, she got on the car sent by the Shen family and left the orphanage.
The Shen family had sufficient heating in the winter, her frostbite never recurred, and she could eat a lot of delicious food. From then on, she swore to be the most obedient child.
She is with Chen Aoshuang every day, never disobeys her, and accepts everything being arranged for her. Occasionally, she has moments of self-awareness and can't stand her control, but then she thinks, isn't being together now better than staying in an orphanage?
The answer must be that it is better now. She calmed down, gave up expressing her feelings, and obeyed unconditionally.
Chen Aoshuang really likes the way she is dependent, obedient and submissive. She can get the maternal love that she could not get from her own children, so she prefers her even more.
They became a mother and daughter who each got what they wanted.
Chen Aoshuang wants an obedient child, and she wants to survive.
Chen Cheng opened his eyes and looked at the dark room.
In her ears, she could hear the long breathing of her newlywed husband, who might be the person she would live with for the rest of her life.
Suddenly I felt that the fifteen years I spent in the Shen family were like a dream.
Song Jili hugged her too tightly and she was not used to it. She slowly backed out and turned to face the window sill, staring at the light reflected on the wall in a trance.
The lights in the main building never dimmed.
The screen of the mobile phone on the bedside table flashed, and several new messages popped up.
Chen Cheng took it and opened it quickly.
Ten minutes ago, Butler Gu sent a message: "Fourth Miss, the old lady is dying, why don't you come over."
Chen Cheng refreshed the message. Apart from Butler Gu who sent her a message, no one from the Shen family told her.
Without caring about anything else, she put on her slippers and ran to the main building.
Song Jili, who woke up almost at the same time as Chen Cheng, noticed something was wrong, sat up, and asked her, "Chen Cheng, where are you going?"
He reached out but failed to catch her, so he quickly put on his shoes, picked up her coat that she had left on the sofa at the end of the bed, and ran out.
Chen Cheng rushed forward with all her strength, stepping through the mud, not caring that her white skirt had stained the soil and leaves.
The Shen family members were standing at the door, and the three brothers were discussing the arrangements for the rituals in the next few days with a Taoist priest in a yellow robe.
Old Master Shen sat on a stool with his head down, looking ten years older.
The three sisters-in-law cried louder than each other.
Everything that happens leads to the same outcome.
——Chen Aoshuang is gone.
Chen Cheng didn't see it with his own eyes, so he couldn't accept it and wanted to sneak into the house through the side door.
Shen Zhuo noticed Chen Cheng and quietly stepped forward to stop her.
"Where are you going?" Shen Zhuo stretched out his hand to block the way.
Chen Cheng was so anxious that he kept using sign language: Let me go in and take a look, I can't do anything.
Shen Zhuo did not move: "Grandma passed away half an hour ago. The family is preparing for her funeral. Don't make trouble."
Along the way, she felt lucky, thinking that she could catch up to see him for the last time. When she heard Shen Zhuo's words, tears kept falling and she looked around in confusion.
I opened my mouth, but couldn't utter a word.
She raised her hands several times, wanting to say something, but her thoughts were cut off.
"Grandma mentioned you to grandpa before she passed away. Don't worry, grandma has paved the way for you in the future. Grandpa will see you tomorrow. Go back." Shen Zhuo said with a hint of jealousy.
I thought Chen Cheng was so lucky. When her grandmother took her last breath, she was thinking about her, and had nothing to say to her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren.
Chen Cheng grabbed Shen Zhuo's sleeve and begged him in sign language: Can you let me see my mother again? Please, just see her once.
"Enough!" Shen Zhuo thought of his father and two uncles who were kneeling in front of the bed to show their filial piety. They were heartbroken by the departure of their mother and wanted to get the last warmth from their mother before she passed away. However, they couldn't even get the chance for their mother to call their names. They hated Chen Cheng who had taken over their mother's nest even more.
Song Jili, who was standing five meters away, couldn't bear to watch it anymore. He stepped forward and pulled Chen Cheng behind him, scolding her coldly, "Shen Zhuo, why are you angry at her? You are such a coward."
Shen Zhuo bullies the weak and fears the strong. Song Jili is too intimidating and his eyes can kill people. He dare not refute and keeps silent.
Song Jili put his coat on Chen Cheng's thin shoulders, took her hand, and said loudly, "Just go in through the front door. I'll see who dares to stop you!"
