Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Qin Yu's movements were astonishingly fast.

The second after the alarm wailed, Gu Jing felt dizzy and his back slammed heavily against the solid oak bookcase. He was not pushed away, but was shoved into the narrow angle formed by the bookcase and the wall by Qin Yu with a force that was almost like a confinement.

"Don't move!" Qin Yu's voice was extremely low. It was no longer the trembling and broken voice just now, but it was sharp as ice, with an unquestionable command.

His broad back blocked Gu Jing's way, blocking out any dangerous sight lines that might come from the door.

Gu Jing's heart pounded in his chest, pounding against his ribs. Through the gap between Qin Yu's shoulders, he saw on the wall surveillance screen that those ghostly figures had broken through the outermost defenses and were silently and swiftly invading the first-floor hall of the villa. Their movements were coordinated, their tactics clear; they were definitely not ordinary kidnappers or thieves.

"Protocol destroyed. Cleanup procedures initiated."

The cold mechanical voice kept repeating, and every word hit my tense nerves.

Clear? Clear whom? Him? Or... Qin Yu?

Father? Qin Yu was talking about...his father?

A profound sense of absurdity and a piercing chill instantly gripped Gu Jing. Business marriages, the exchange of interests, even mutual dislike, were all within his purview. But this scene before him—an attack from the other party's family, clearly intended to silence them—completely exceeded his understanding of "business rivals" and "family marriages"!

Qin Yu seemed completely oblivious to his shock. The man stood sideways, his jawline as taut as a drawn sword. His eyes were fixed on the infrared light moving across the screen. His finger slid across the phone quickly, unlocking it and opening a pure black app.

"Team A blocks the hallway, Team B seals off the stairs. Keep quiet, I want to live." He quickly and quietly gave orders to the person on the other end of the phone. His voice was terrifyingly calm, completely different from the man who had pushed him against the wall a moment ago, his voice trembling as he revealed his ten-year secret love for him.

Gu Jing's pupils suddenly constricted. Qin Yu...did he have someone under his command? And judging by his instructions, this wasn't just any ordinary bodyguard team!

The moment the order was given, several extremely short, muffled sounds were faintly heard from within the villa, like a heavy object falling to the ground, or the sound of a silenced gunshot. On the surveillance screen, the red dot representing the intruder paused for a few moments, then disappeared.

Qin Yu didn't even blink.

His free hand suddenly reached for the top of the bookcase and groped around. With a slight click, a thick financial dictionary popped open, revealing a hollowed-out space inside. Inside lay two pistols, gleaming with a cold, hard metallic sheen, and several loaded magazines.

Gu Jing's breathing stopped.

Qin Yu quickly checked his guns, loaded them, and pressed one into Gu Jing's cold hand. The metal felt cold and heavy, carrying the scent of death.

"Do you know how to use it?" he asked, his eyes still locked on the screen, his profile flickering in the red light of the alarm.

Gu Jing subconsciously tightened his grip on the gun handle, his knuckles stiffening. He was a master strategist in the business world, but when had he ever really touched upon this? "...Not really."

"Here's the safety, buckle it here. Aim, don't hesitate." Qin Yu's fingers tapped the back of his hand twice quickly and forcefully, the touch burning hot. "Follow me closely. Their target is you, but now, we are both 'accidents that need to be eliminated.'"

There was a cruel understanding in his voice.

"Why?" Gu Jing finally found his voice, his voice was extremely dry, "Your father...why did he..."

"Because the marriage is a complete scam." Qin Yu's voice was flat, as if he was stating a fact that had nothing to do with him. "He never thought of saving the Gu family, he just wanted to use this opportunity to annex it. And I..."

He suddenly paused and glanced sideways at Gu Jing. His eyes were extremely complicated, filled with pain, determination, and a hint of madly burning light.

“…I became the biggest variable.”

There was a crisp sound of shattering glass outside the window! It came from the other side of the second floor!

"Let's go!" Qin Yu said in a low voice without further explanation.

He grabbed Gu Jing's wrist with such force that it almost broke his bones, and pulled him out of the corner. However, instead of rushing towards the door, he quickly retreated towards the shadows deep in the study!

Gu Jing stumbled as he was dragged along, only to hear the whistling of the wind in his ears, mixed with the muffled sounds of fighting in the distance and the sound of footsteps approaching. Qin Yu was surprisingly familiar with the structure of this house. Avoiding the main passage, he unscrewed a secret door disguised as a wall panel and roughly pushed him in!

The narrow and dark secret passage was filled with dust and a cold and lonely atmosphere.

Behind him, the door of the study was violently slammed open with a "bang"!

Dense bullets whizzed into the place where they had just stood, sending wood chips flying from the bookcase!

Qin Yu slammed the secret door shut and locked it, temporarily isolating all the noise and murderous intent from outside. In the darkness, only the sound of their heavy, rapid breathing mixed together.

Gu Jing leaned against the cold, rough wall, his hand still tightly gripping the heavy pistol. Adrenaline was coursing through his veins.

The shock of the revelation of his ten-year secret love had barely settled before a cold murderous intent was bearing down on him. And the man who had just revealed his most vulnerable side to him, in the blink of an eye, revealed a completely unfamiliar, dangerous, and powerful side.

Scam? Purge? Changes?

Qin Yu's warm body pressed against him, and he listened vigilantly to the movement outside the door. His heartbeat could be heard through their backs, which were pressed against each other, and it was also fast and heavy.

Trust at this moment is as thin as a piece of paper, yet so heavy that it concerns life and death.

"Qin Yu," Gu Jing said hoarsely in the darkness, asking the most crucial question, "Who... are you?"
