Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Qin Yu's words were like an ice pick, piercing Gu Jing's eardrum and instantly freezing all the hot emotions in his heart after surviving the disaster.

Inside the Gu family...the highest level?

A cold sense of absurdity crept up his spine, nearly unsteadying him. With his family business in jeopardy, he'd dedicated himself to it, even accepting this humiliating marriage, and now… the fortress had been breached from within?

"Who?" Gu Jing's voice was so dry that it was almost inaudible.

Qin Yu's gaze fell heavily on his face, a look of almost cruel scrutiny swirling in it, yet also a faint trace of worry, one he himself hadn't even noticed. He didn't answer immediately, but instead looked at the subordinate who was giving Uncle Lin an emergency injection.

The subordinate paused, raised his eyes to meet Qin Yu's gaze, and shook his head almost imperceptibly.

Uncle Lin lost too much blood and was frightened, and fell into a complete coma. He was unable to provide any information in a short period of time.

Qin Yu's jawline tightened, and he withdrew his gaze, looking back at Gu Jing. His voice was low, but every word was clear: "The signal traceability is very vague. The other party has used multiple layers of disguise. But the authority level it ultimately points to is... very high."

He paused, then added, his tone cold: "High enough to have access to all of Gu's core decisions and your schedule."

Gu Jing's heart sank. The field narrowed down to a handful of people—his special assistant, Chen Quan, who had worked with him for over a decade? The directors who had watched him grow up? Even... the vice president his father had trusted so deeply before he passed away?

Every name that comes to mind brings a chill to the bone. The world built on trust is cracking beneath our feet.

"Why?" he murmured, as if asking Qin Yu, or as if asking himself.

Qin Yu's eyes were deep. "Perhaps from the very beginning, the crisis facing the Gu family wasn't just due to external pressure. Only by coordinating efforts from within and without can we quickly secure a piece of the pie." He paused, his voice growing colder. "Or perhaps... the plan to eliminate me, as a variable, required a pawn from within the Gu family to ensure a foolproof outcome."

Make sure that Qin Yu and Gu Jing will walk into this slaughterhouse obediently.

A faint siren sounded in the distance, gradually approaching. It was unclear whether it was Qin Zhengfeng's backup plan to silence the witnesses, or if the explosion had drawn their attention.

"We can't stay here." Qin Yu made a quick decision and pulled Gu Jing up, "Let's leave first!"

One of his men had already carried Uncle Lin on his back, while another quickly cleaned up the scene. They quickly retreated into the deeper darkness outside the factory, heading in the opposite direction of the sirens.

The cold night wind scraped against his face like a knife, yet it couldn't blow away the turbulent waves and coldness in Gu Jing's heart. He passively let Qin Yu pull him along, running with one foot deep and one foot shallow, his eyes fixed on the man's broad, bloodstained back.

This person, who ten minutes ago he considered his most dangerous enemy and most hated marriage partner, has now become the only piece of driftwood he can grasp in this quagmire of despair.

It's so ridiculous that it makes you want to laugh.

Qin Yu seemed incredibly familiar with the area, avoiding the main roads and weaving through deserted paths and bushes. Soon, two unassuming black cars slid silently to a stop on the side of the road.

"Get in the car." Qin Yu opened the back door, pushed Gu Jing in, followed closely by sitting in, and gave an address to his men in the front seat.

The car started immediately and merged smoothly into the night.

The carriage was completely silent, with only Uncle Lin's heavy, labored breathing and the two men's uncontrollable, suppressed heartbeats as the sound could be heard.

Qin Yu pulled out a simple medical kit and ripped off the blood-soaked makeshift bandage on his arm, revealing the ripped flesh beneath. Without even a frown, he expertly disinfected, applied medication, and rebandaged the wound, his movements quick and precise.

Gu Jing looked at the hideous wound and Qin Yu's cold, hard profile, and his throat tightened. He wanted to ask, "Does it hurt?" but felt that the question seemed ridiculous at this moment.

"...Thank you." Finally, he squeezed out two words dryly. For saving my life just now, and for protecting me now.

Qin Yu paused with his bandaged hand, without looking up, and said in a muffled voice, "No need."

Silence fell again.

After a long while, Qin Yu bandaged the wound, then slowly leaned back in the chair and closed his eyes. There was an indelible look of fatigue and gloom between his brows.

"It's not Chen Quan." He suddenly spoke in a hoarse voice.

Gu Jing looked at him suddenly.

Qin Yu still had his eyes closed, as if he could sense his gaze. "Another fragment of information intercepted by Nightingale shows that when the news was leaked, your special assistant was overseas handling an urgent debt. He has a complete alibi and communication records."

Gu Jing's heart dropped slightly, then rose again. It wasn't Chen Quan, which narrowed the scope again. However, it also meant that the remaining possibilities were even more unbearable for him.

"Who could it be?" His voice was hoarse.

Qin Yu opened his eyes and looked at the night scene passing by quickly outside the car window. His eyes were dark and unclear: "We will know soon."

His tone was calm, yet contained a chilling coldness that made one's heart palpitate.

The car finally pulled into a seemingly ordinary logistics warehouse park on the outskirts of the city and stopped in front of one of the warehouses. The rolling door silently rose, the car slid in, and the door quickly fell back down.

The inside of the warehouse is a different world. It has been transformed into a temporary safe house with all living facilities and even simple medical equipment.

The men carefully placed Uncle Lin on the medical bed, and a professional doctor-looking man immediately stepped forward to take over.

Qin Yu looked around and ordered his subordinates: "Highest level of alert. No one is allowed to enter or leave without my order."

"Yes, Brother Yu."

The men quickly dispersed, each doing their own job.

Qin Yu then looked at Gu Jing, his gaze lingering on his pale, tired face for a moment, and his voice slowed down: "It's safe here for now. Go wash up and rest."

He pointed to a door nearby.

Gu Jing was indeed in a mess, blood, dust, and cold sweat sticking together, making him feel cold and uncomfortable. But he had no thoughts at the moment.

"What about you?" he asked.

Qin Yu walked to the operating table on the side and turned on the computer. Dozens of split screens popped up on the screen instantly, monitoring every corner inside and outside the warehouse, and there was a constantly rolling encrypted data stream.

"Me?" Qin Yu tapped a few times on the keyboard. His profile looked particularly cold and hard under the cold light of the screen, but there was a cold fire burning in his eyes. "I have to find out the traitor in our 'dear'."

His finger paused on the enter key, his tone was calm, yet it was chilling to the bone.

"Look who's so eager to send us to hell."
