Chapter 8

Chapter 8

The ceiling lights in the warehouse safe house cast a cold, white glow, illuminating the icy fire in Qin Yu's eyes. He hit the enter key, and the data stream on the screen rushed faster. Countless codes and surveillance images flashed and intertwined, making the lines of his profile even sharper.

Gu Jing stood there, neither cleaning nor moving. Qin Yu's words, "Find the traitor," were like a needle, piercing his forced composure, revealing the chill of betrayal beneath. He looked at Qin Yu—the man he had once thought of as a ruthless business rival, but now, like a thoroughly enraged wolf, he bared his long-dormant fangs, not to tear his prey apart, but to... protect?

The sense of absurdity came over him again, but with a faint throbbing that even he himself did not dare to delve into.

Time crawled slowly in silence, with only the occasional tapping of the keyboard and the regular ticking of the medical equipment on Uncle Lin's side.

Suddenly, Qin Yu stopped moving. He stared at a corner of the screen, where several fragments of restored and noise-reduced communication records flashed by quickly, along with several almost completely erased traces of fund flows.

His pupils constricted slightly, and his jawline was as tight as a fully drawn bowstring.

Gu Jing's heart also began to beat faster, and he held his breath. He could almost hear the sound of his blood rushing through his veins.

A few seconds later, Qin Yu leaned back in his chair very slowly, raised his hand, and pinched the bridge of his nose. This action didn't reveal a sense of relaxation, but rather an extremely oppressive, dead silence before a storm.

He turned his chair and faced Gu Jing. His face was expressionless, but his eyes were frighteningly dark, swirling with cold anger after confirming some of his worst suspicions, and a hint of... extremely complex, almost sad sarcasm.

"I found out." He spoke, his voice was flat, without any ups and downs, but it was more chilling than a roar.

Gu Jing's Adam's apple rolled, and he forced himself to meet his gaze: "Who is it?"

Qin Yu didn't answer immediately. He stood up, walked to the water dispenser next to him, and filled a glass of cold water. But he didn't drink it. He just held it, and a layer of mist quickly condensed on the wall of the glass.

"Three years ago, Gu's company was expanding overseas. Regarding that large infrastructure project in Southeast Asia," he suddenly spoke about something seemingly unrelated, turning his back to Gu Jing. "Among the bidders at the time, there was a shell company with a complicated background. Their bid was incredibly precise, almost hitting Gu's bottom line."

Gu Jing frowned. That memory was not a pleasant one. “I know. In the end, due to a sudden change in local policy, there was a problem with the company’s qualifications, so we narrowly won the bid.” He paused, his expression changing slightly. “You mean…”

"The policy change wasn't accidental." Qin Yu turned around, and the water cup made a slight noise as he placed it on the table. "Someone spent a lot of money to clear the key links and strike with precision."

He looked at Gu Jing, his eyes sharp as a knife. "Almost at the same time, the wife of a senior executive of the Gu Group received a large remittance from the Virgin Islands to a long-dormant account under her overseas family trust. After several transfers, the amount was exactly the 'price' required to smooth the process."

Gu Jing's blood seemed to freeze instantly, and his limbs were cold. His mind quickly flashed through the names of several executives who had access to the project's bottom line, and each one made him feel cold.

"Who is it?" he asked again, his voice beginning to tremble.

Qin Yu didn't answer directly, but continued to peel back the bloody truth: "A year ago, just before Gu's cash flow warning first appeared, several related suppliers suddenly settled a large number of long-term accounts receivable early, with unusually generous terms. Meanwhile, the vice president in charge of supply chain management at the time, whose son's son had acquired a near-bankrupt technology company in the United States, miraculously revived it and received several unidentified angel investments."

Gu Jing's face turned pale little by little, and his fingers curled up unconsciously.

"Half a year ago," Qin Yu's voice grew colder, like ice scraping against glass. "The core technology leak that caused your father's rage and worsened his condition...the source was directly linked to his chief technical advisor. And that advisor, three weeks after the incident, became a vegetable in an 'accidental' car accident, completely ending all leads."

He paused, his gaze as solid as substance, pressing down on Gu Jing's heart.

"At the time, it was another highly respected veteran on the board who advocated for a quick resolution of the incident, no further investigation, and recommended a new, 'more reliable' technical team to take over."

Qin Yu walked towards Gu Jing step by step and stopped in front of him. The distance between them was so close that they could see the slightest vibration in each other's eyes.

"And this time," he finally spoke, his voice low and hoarse, but every word piercing his heart, "I was able to accurately and accurately pass Uncle Lin's itinerary, my backup safe house route, and even the little entanglement between you and me that should not be told to outsiders... all to my father's knife—"

He leaned forward slightly, looked directly into Gu Jing's suddenly shrinking pupils, and uttered a name.

That name was like a thunderclap, exploding in Gu Jing's ears!

It's him! It's actually him?!

His father's most trusted deputy, his uncle who watched him grow up, and a veteran of the Gu Group - Zhou Liguang!

Uncle Zhou, who always had a warm smile and promised with tears in his eyes at his father's bedside that he would take good care of him and support the Gu family!

The huge impact made Gu Jing's eyes go black, his ears tinnitus continued, and his stomach churned. He took a step back suddenly, and his back hit the cold metal shelf heavily, making a clanging sound.

Trust completely crumbled, revealing the hideous, rotten truth beneath. It wasn't an external invasion, but something that had been eaten away from the very roots!

"...Why?" His voice was hoarse, almost squeezed out from between his teeth, filled with incomprehensible pain and anger.

Qin Yu looked at his instantly bleeding face and shaky body. The cold mockery in his eyes faded, replaced by a complex haze. He was silent for a few seconds before slowly speaking, "For power, for money, or... simply so that he could take over the entire Gu Group after kicking my father out."

"Your father..." Gu Jing looked up suddenly, "He was also involved?"

"No." Qin Yu shook his head, his tone firm. "My father is a jackal. He only wants profit, to swallow up the Gu family and cleanse himself. But Zhou Liguang..." He sneered, "He wants more. He wants to use the Qin family to get rid of me, the 'variable', and you, who are in the way. He also wants to use the banner of 'revenge for the Gu family' to completely purge the Qin family and seize power."

It was a perfect match, a mantis stalking a cicada, while the oriole waited behind! He, Qin Yu, and even his father, Qin Zhengfeng, had all become pawns in the game!

Gu Jing felt his entire body go cold, his blood rushing backward. He had seen plenty of oppression in the business world, but this deliberate, impeccable conspiracy, one that even risked putting everyone to death, filled him with shudders.

At this moment, the screen of another phone Qin Yu had placed on the console lit up. It wasn't an encrypted line, but a regular domestic number. But the note made Gu Jing's pupils shrink.

Zhou Liguang.

The phone vibrated silently, and the name on the screen kept flashing like a poisonous snake spitting out its tongue.

Qin Yu glanced at the screen, then looked at Gu Jing, whose face was pale and staring at the phone, and the corners of his lips curled up in an arc without any smile.

"Look," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, yet filled with cold sarcasm, "'Care' is here."

He stretched out his finger, and under Gu Jing's almost suffocating gaze, he slowly pressed the answer button and turned on the hands-free mode.

Zhou Liguang's familiar voice, filled with just the right amount of anxiety and concern, came from the other end of the line, as gentle and steady as ever:

"Xiao Jing? Is that you? Thank God! I heard there was a big incident at the factory in the suburbs, and there was an explosion. The police have been dispatched! I can't contact you, I'm so worried! Are you with Mr. Qin? Are you okay?"
