Chapter 160 Repentance? What a joke.

Knowing that Shen Yu had returned, Shen Ning naturally had to inquire about him.

She had everything under control with the Liang family, and finding another Shen Yu would be a piece of cake.

Shen Yu was placed in a small house not far from the Liang family. This was the residence of a steward of the Han family, and outsiders could not find his way here, making it an excellent hiding place.

However, when Shen Yu heard that Shen Shu had gotten into trouble, he was worried about his second sister and went to the Liang family to visit her, which is how Shen Ning's people discovered him.

Not only did they discover Shen Yu's whereabouts, but they also learned about his conversation with Shen Shu. The two of them now hate Shen Ning intensely.

Shen Yu already knew that the Zhu Family Gang and Shen Ning were in a cooperative relationship, so it wasn't hard to guess why he was taken away in the first place.

Shen Ning did it on purpose. She deliberately let the Zhu family take him away. As for her purpose, it was naturally to abandon him in a remote area to fend for himself, preferably to die there and never come back.

Believe it or not, that's exactly what Shen Ning thought.

He had come to realize how ruthless Shen Ning was and had no expectations of her anymore. His only remaining family was Shen Shu.

Only his second sister cared for him and went to great lengths to bring him back. Moreover, his second sister shared his plight, as they had both been abandoned by their eldest sister.

Shen Yu vowed to reclaim his family's wealth, make his eldest sister regret how she treated them, and make her repent.

Shen Ning found it utterly ridiculous. Repentance? What was she going to repent for?

Repentance: I shouldn't have been too lenient with them; repentance: I didn't exterminate them completely?

She found her younger brother and sister quite amusing. When outsiders bullied them, they would swallow their anger and endure it silently. Even when they were being bullied to the point of near death, they would eagerly lick up any bone that was thrown at them.

But it was different when it came to her, the eldest sister. They would ask her for everything and felt that she was the one who should do everything. If she refused something, they would think she was bad. If she used any tricks on them, they would fight her to the death.

But now, aren't all their fates self-inflicted? At most, she just didn't do her best to help.

He's obsequious to outsiders but makes harsh demands on his own sister; he's a coward and an ingrate.

She's already being merciful by not strangling them, and she's even asking for repentance? It's a joke.

It's rare for these two good-for-nothings to have such ambitions. Actually, Shen Ning is quite curious about how far they can go.

But she won't give them a chance to grow.

The Liang family mansion was bought by embezzling Shen family property. They've lived there for so long, it's time to return it.

That night, a fire broke out in the Liang family's house for some unknown reason, and by the time it was discovered, the flames were already soaring into the sky.

"Fire! Help! Help!"

"Fire!"

The Liang family's house was a row of houses connected to other houses, and in some places they even shared a wall. The neighbors were afraid that the fire would spread to the area, so they quickly brought out buckets of water to help.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but it burned many areas. The Liang family members hurriedly escaped, and they were all in a sorry state.

Liang Zhuo had a broken spine. After being carried out, he was thrown to the ground and lay there unable to move.

In an attempt to save his belongings, Steward Liang lost all his hair and was covered in charcoal mud. Aunt Liang sat on the ground, her clothes disheveled and her eyes filled with despair; her home was gone.

The neighbors finally breathed a sigh of relief once they were sure the fire was completely extinguished.

Suddenly, a sharp-eyed person spotted the group trying to slip away and exclaimed, "Hey, isn't that Miss Shen? What's she doing here?"

One sentence drew everyone's attention, and soon someone recognized them: "The one next to her looks like Wei Congwen from the Wei family."

“Wei Congwen, didn’t they get divorced? That’s her ex-husband.”

"Why are they still together after being divorced? And this isn't the Wei family home, it's the Liang family home. They're not even properly dressed, could they have just been sleeping together?"

"Wait a minute, didn't Shen Shu go with the young master of the Han family after her divorce? How come she's still with Wei Congwen?"

"You don't know this, do you? She was beaten by that young master Han, and he beat her so badly she lost her child."

"Then what does this mean? Going back to an old flame?"

"My goodness, is this even possible? Let's not even talk about Shen Shu, just look at Wei Congwen, how could he accept this? He's so magnanimous, I admire him!"

The crowd behind them was buzzing with discussion, but Shen Shu and Wei Congwen didn't dare to turn around. They lowered their heads and slunk away.

Shen Shu felt terrible listening to those words, but could she be blamed? She didn't want it to be like this either, but she had no other choice.

She snuggled closer to Wei Congwen. She had hated Wei Congwen before, but these days he had been so good to her. It wasn't the kind of good that comes from a prodigal son returning home, but rather the kind that makes him seem to have fallen in love with her all over again, as if he wanted to hold her in the palm of his hand.

Even before they were married, Wei Congwen had never treated her this well.

She remembered that Wei Congwen had hurt her and caused her to lose her child, but she had been too extreme back then. Now that Wei Congwen knew his mistakes and could correct them, she couldn't just beat him to death.

She loved Han Yin too, but Han Yin treated her that way, so she could only seek comfort from Wei Congwen.

Did she do something wrong? But she just lost her child; who can understand her pain?

"Congwen, what should I do now?"

She cried, her face full of sorrow. She was terrified; if people continued to speak ill of her behind her back, how could she live in the future?

Wei Congwen hugged her tightly, his eyes full of tenderness: "It's okay, I'm here. I'll never let you suffer any more grievances in the future."

Shen Shu hugged him: "Waaah, Congwen, from now on I only want you."

Wei Congwen: "Don't cry, it'll hurt your health. Come on, I'll take you home."

Lying on the ground, Liang Zhuo watched them leave, their affection for each other so intense that they never once looked back at his home, which had been burned to ashes.
