Chapter Nineteen: Luckily, she ran fast.

Feeling she had done something wrong, Shen Shu didn't want to go back to her parents' home, but she couldn't resist Wei Congwen's coaxing and pleading, so she reluctantly agreed.

"My sister probably hates me now, why would she be willing to help us?"

Wei Congwen didn't think so: "Didn't you say before that your sister told you herself that she didn't really want to marry me? Even so, what angered her wasn't our marriage, but that you got into the bridal sedan chair without telling her?"

“Shen Ning loves you and Shen Yu the most. As long as you are willing to apologize to her and ask her to help, she will definitely agree.”

Shen Shu wanted to shake her head, but then she felt that it made sense; her sister really loved her very much.

"But...but I made her so angry she vomited blood, she won't forgive me so easily."

She was also self-aware enough to know that what happened this time was indeed a bit too much. Shen Ning's gaze on her in the wedding hall that day felt like it could slowly torture her. Every time she thought about it, she felt her heart pound. Now she didn't dare to see Shen Ning, let alone plead for him.

This time, Wei Congwen couldn't go along with her. If he didn't do something, the Wei family would really be drowned in the spittle of the literati.

Shen Shu was very reluctant, but she still changed her clothes and came out. She couldn't bear to make things difficult for Brother Wei.

However, as soon as they reached the door, their initial reluctance vanished instantly upon seeing the gifts prepared by Madam Wei.

The gifts prepared by Madam Wei were not very expensive, but they were all thoughtfully chosen, containing all of Shen Ning's favorite foods and medicinal herbs to nourish her body.

Before leaving, she repeatedly reminded Wei Congwen not to act recklessly again, to speak kindly, and that Shen Ning was the most sensible person, and as long as he sincerely apologized, she would not make things difficult for him.

Wei Congwen was now of one mind with his parents and focused on resolving the predicament, so he naturally had no time to care about Shen Shu. After he finished discussing with his mother, he got into the carriage and saw Shen Shu sitting there with tears in her eyes.

Shen Shu was heartbroken: "Brother Wei, do you also regret marrying me?"

Wei Congwen frowned: "What nonsense are you thinking about now?"

Shen Shu bit her lip, clutching her collar with one hand, in unbearable pain: "I know I'm not as sensible as my sister, and I'm not as favored by our parents as she is. I've endured my mother's beatings and scoldings, and I've accepted her not accepting my tea or seeing me. But how can she be so enthusiastic towards my sister? I'm clearly your wife now."

Wei Congwen: "..." His mother's enthusiasm for Shen Ning was for the sake of the entire Wei family.

Even though she's the girl I like, and I'm soft-hearted, I feel inexplicably irritated.

In the end, love triumphed over everything, and he pulled the person into his arms.

"We are already husband and wife, so don't overthink things. I'm preparing this generous gift in the hope that your sister will help resolve this matter out of consideration for her. Once things have calmed down, you can offer me tea again, and she will definitely agree. Besides, you might already be carrying her grandson, and she'll treat you exceptionally well then."

Having received some comfort, Shen Shu was in a relatively good mood on her way to the Shen family. However, upon arriving at the Shen family, she learned that Shen Ning had gone to the estate to recuperate, and had just left that morning.

Shen Shu couldn't hold back any longer, feeling both angry and aggrieved: "She's deliberately avoiding me. I've already come back to apologize, what more does she want?"

Wei Congwen frowned as well. With Shen Ning not around, things were going to get complicated.

------

Although Shen Ning had left, she still left spies at home. When she learned that Shen Shu had indeed returned to her parents' home, she felt a sense of relief, as if she had survived a disaster.

Luckily she ran fast, otherwise she would have been disgusted.

However, since she wasn't home, Shen Shu easily entered the house, went to Shen Ning's residence and threw a tantrum. Not wanting to lose face, she simply took the gifts and went to see the old lady.

When a woman returns to her parents' home, she is supposed to see her elders. She doesn't necessarily have to see her sister; she can see the old lady as well. Logically speaking, when she returns to her parents' home, she should see her grandmother and parents, not her sister.

She even gave half of the gifts to the second wife's family, since her second uncle was also an elder.

Zhao was not overjoyed to receive this unexpected fortune. She might not hate Shen Ning much, but she certainly hated Shen Shu.

Does she even care about Shen Shu's small gift?

If Shen Shu hadn't shamelessly stolen her brother-in-law, she would have already seized control of the household management and the entire Shen family would be hers. Why would she need a few measly things?

Shen Shu shamelessly stole a man, causing her to lose what she was about to have. Now she's back to swagger around. This is simply intolerable!

Out of consideration for the Wei family, Zhao did not openly express her resentment. Instead, she urged Wei Congwen and Shen Shu to kneel down and serve tea, and even made Shen Shu stand while serving her dishes, ostensibly to teach her the manners of being a daughter-in-law so that she could better serve Madam Wei when they returned home.

Shen Shu, that brain-damaged girl, actually believed that Zhao Shi was teaching her how to please Madam Wei, and eagerly followed her instructions, only to be treated like a servant for a single meal.

Shen Ning tapped her brow: "Where's Liang Zhuo? Didn't they run into him?"

The servant nodded repeatedly, grinning gleefully: "We ran into them, and they almost came to blows."

Shen Ning raised an eyebrow, signaling him to continue.

When Shen Shu got home and didn't see Shen Ning, she was furious. After meeting Liang Zhuo, she subconsciously sought his help whenever she needed something, just like she always did, hoping he would coax her.

The two had become accustomed to being close, so Liang Zhuo naturally coaxed her, explaining that Shen Ning was just feeling unwell and was resting, not deliberately avoiding her.

In her anger, Shen Shu completely forgot about her wedding and acted spoiled and unreasonable. Liang Zhuo let her vent her anger and coaxed her gently.

The Shen family had watched them grow up together, and everyone knew that Liang Zhuo was good to Shen Shu, but this was the first time Wei Congwen had seen this scene, and he clenched his fists instantly.

On his wedding day, he had a thorn in his heart, but the joy of marrying the one he loved made him subconsciously ignore it. However, this thorn has now suddenly pierced his heart.
