Chapter Sixty: Turning the Tables

Aunt Liang was dumbfounded when she saw the three large carriages full of things. Although she had come with her husband, she thought he had a fight with the eldest daughter and wanted her to apologize, so he came to the Wei family in a fit of pique.

But why is everything being delivered?

"Old Liang, what's going on? What are you doing?"

Her voice trembled, and she was so anxious that she was about to cry. She had lived in the Shen family for more than 20 years and had never thought of moving away.

Liang Zhuo couldn't accept it either. He felt sorry for Shen Shu, but he didn't want to become a servant in the Wei family.

Especially since he wanted to marry the eldest daughter, how could he possibly live in the Wei family's house?

Butler Liang is no fool; he can interfere in the Shen family's business and embezzle a considerable amount of money from it.

Seeing this, how could he not understand that he had been outmaneuvered by the young lady?

The previous account book incident had caused the eldest young lady to harbor resentment towards him. Today, Liang Zhuo and the second young lady's coercion led her to resort to a self-inflicted injury to trick him into leaving on his own.

Were they kicked out, or did he leave on his own in a moment of madness?

Aunt Liang panicked when she saw the pile of things: "I want to go back. I've lived in the Shen family for half my life. That's my home. I'm going to apologize to Miss and beg for her forgiveness."

She grabbed Liang Zhuo's hand: "Zhuo'er, you go back too, kowtow to the young lady and apologize. The young lady is the kindest of all, she will definitely forgive us."

Liang Zhuo looked to Butler Liang for help: "Father, please say something."

Butler Liang gripped the dowry list tightly. He too found it hard to accept and was furious, but he knew clearly that the young lady was capable, decisive, and wouldn't easily change her mind once she made a decision.

Even if they turned back now, they probably wouldn't be able to go back.

The young lady deliberately gave him this dowry list because she must have sensed that he had developed unwarranted ambitions.

The young lady forbade him from having designs on the Shen family, so she sent him to the Wei family.

She wanted to use him to deal with the second young lady—no, to help the second young lady deal with the Wei family.

When did the young lady's mind become so terrifying?

Steward Liang was not without resentment, resenting that the eldest young lady was so heartless. However, the young master of the second branch was to be executed in a little over a month, the one who was pursuing the Du family's daughter was the son of the Minister of Rites, and the Qi Prince's Mansion had sent gifts to the eldest young lady several times. There was also the tall and strong Mo Lin and his group of servants.

Butler Liang had to face reality. If he went back to make a scene, he would not gain any benefit and might even bring about greater trouble.

Staying in the Wei family to help the second young lady manage her dowry now seems like the eldest young lady's act of kindness.

He pulled his wife, who was eager to go back, and whispered, "This is a play that the eldest young lady and I put on. Although the eldest young lady is angry, she still cares about the second young lady. She hopes that I can help the second young lady manage her dowry so that she can establish herself in the Wei family. Once everything is stable, we can go back."

Aunt Liang felt uneasy; she felt that this wasn't the case, but she habitually believed and listened to her husband.

"You were the one who took care of the dowry, so why is it the three of us who are being given everything away? What's the difference between this and kicking us out?"

Aunt Liang is not very shrewd, but she is straightforward and perceptive at times.

Butler Liang gave Liang Zhuo a cold look: "You'll have to ask him that. Why did he get involved with the Second Miss again, and even bring her to cry and make a scene in front of the Shen family's gate?"

"Everyone says that family scandals should not be aired in public. If there is something wrong, you can talk about it inside the house. Why make a scene at the door and have everyone watch? It's extremely shameful."

From the young lady's perspective, he could completely understand her feelings.

Of course, the most important thing is that Liang Zhuo helped the second young lady change the eldest young lady's marriage, and they will always owe the eldest young lady a debt.

Because they were in the wrong, they didn't dare to be too assertive when they were angry.

Liang Zhuo also regretted it: "I only took the second young lady back because I felt sorry for her. The gatekeeper wouldn't let her in, so she just cried at the door. I couldn't do anything about it."

He felt innocent and wronged. The eldest young lady had Mo Lin tie him up and throw him into the Wei family, but unexpectedly, the second young lady had a miscarriage.

The sight of the second young lady covered in blood was truly terrifying. The Wei family ignored her, so he could only rush to find a doctor. After the second young lady finally recovered, she insisted on going home, pleading and begging. He had no choice but to drive her back.

He thought the eldest young lady would feel sorry for the second young lady and give him credit, but the gatekeeper wouldn't let the second young lady in. Then the second young lady cried. Liu Ying and Aunt Liang came out, but he just stood by without saying a word. How can he be blamed for this?

Each of the three harbored resentment, feeling they had been innocently implicated and were extremely distressed.

Especially since the Wei family's house is nowhere near as big as the Shen family's, the thought of having to live there in the future fills him with resentment.

"Uncle Liang, Aunt Liang, Brother Liang Zhuo, please come in quickly." Shen Shu greeted them warmly. Although she had just lost her child and was still very weak, she felt instantly supported by the Liang family's protection.

She was determined to make her husband admit his mistake.

However, the Liang family's move-in did not go smoothly.

The Wei family isn't without members; how could they let Shen Shu bring this whole family back to live with them?

Although he is called a butler, the Wei family does have butlers.

Madam Wei still wanted to get the dowry from Shen Shu, but now that a shrewd steward has come along, isn't that cutting off her source of income?

She immediately stood up and, as the matriarch of the household, demanded that the Liang family be driven away.

Shen Shu argued her case forcefully, but Madam Wei refused to budge an inch, while Wei Congwen watched coldly from the sidelines.

After all, she was the girl he loved. No matter how much she made a fuss, Wei Congwen still had some affection for her. He thought he would give her some space for a few days and then reason with her after she calmed down.

However, Shen Shu was angry with him and secretly hid her pregnancy even though she knew it. He only found out when she accidentally dropped the baby and lost it.

No man is indifferent to his offspring, especially his eldest son.

Even after losing her child, Shen Shu remained restless, and Liang Zhuo busied himself taking care of her, completely ignoring the fact that he was her husband.

The two conspired to cause trouble at the Shen family's house, and ended up bringing the entire Liang family with them.

Looking at Liang Zhuo, Wei Congwen felt like he was being cuckolded. With so many managers and stewards in the Shen family, why did Shen Shu insist on having Liang Zhuo and his family of three?

That was the head butler of the Shen family, Shen Ning's most trusted assistant. How come he all followed Shen Shu?

It must be because of Liang Zhuo, it must be because they have some shady relationship, that bitch Shen Shu!

"Smack!"

Wei Congwen's slap silenced all the arguments and noise, and also knocked Shen Shu unconscious.

Caught off guard, before anyone could react, Shen Shu collapsed to the ground with a thud.

As if the heavens had timed it perfectly, a torrential downpour suddenly began, soaking everyone completely. Shen Shu, lying on the ground in the rain, looked particularly pitiful.

"Ah, what are you doing?!"

Liang Zhuo was so excited he wanted to punch someone, but he held back and picked up Shen Shu in his arms: "Quickly, go and fetch a doctor!"
