Chapter Twenty-One: Burn More Paper Money for Him

A bow was tossed into Shen Ning's arms, and Princess Chang Le mounted her horse: "Do you know how to use it?"

Shen Ning knew a little, but that was all. However, it didn't matter. She gripped the bow tightly and said, "I dare not disturb the princess's enjoyment. I will accompany her even if it costs me my life."

Princess Chang Le led her people into the woods to hunt. She was quite skilled with her bow; while she wouldn't say she hit the bullseye every time, the number of prey she caught was noticeably increasing.

She got so caught up in the fun that she forgot about Shen Ning's presence. When she finally looked back after she had her fill of fun, she found that Shen Ning hadn't fired a single arrow.

"Didn't you say you'd risk your life to accompany this princess? I think you're just here to make up the numbers."

Shen Ning finished holding the longbow, nocked an arrow, and shot it at a tree not far away. However, she was too weak, and the arrow fell to the ground in less than two breaths, its weakness visibly obvious.

Princess Chang Le made no attempt to hide her disdain: "Useless."

Shen Ning wasn't annoyed by being rejected; instead, she picked up the bow and examined it with great interest.

"It was my overestimation of my abilities that I wronged the princess's superior bow."

Princess Chang Le raised an eyebrow and looked Shen Ning up and down. She liked martial arts and disliked those delicate young ladies from noble families who were affected and pretentious.

Shen Ning looks like she has a delicate body, but her personality is different. This makes Shen Ning feel awkward, like she wants to hate her but can't, but she doesn't seem to like her very much either.

Seeing that she genuinely liked the bow, she said directly, "It's yours."

Shen Ning smiled, her eyes crinkling: "Thank you, Princess."

Calling her a sycophant isn't quite accurate, but her attitude does have a certain ingratiating quality.

Princess Chang Le pursed her lips: "What did Li Shaobai come to see you for yesterday?"

Shen Ning instantly understood why Princess Chang Le had sent her the invitation. Could it be that she had taken a liking to Li Shaobai?

She remembered that this princess was engaged.

Shen Ning pondered for only a moment before calmly replying, "Young Master Li was passing by and, upon learning that I was recuperating here, decided to visit me."

Before she could change her expression, Shen Ning continued, "The Shen family and the Li family have some business dealings and can barely be considered to have a relationship, that's all."
