On a summer evening, the sky, washed clean by a light rain, was exceptionally clear and limpid. Cicadas chirped incessantly from the pomegranate tree in the yard. The red pomegranates dotted the branches like tiny lanterns, their vibrant red and green colors strikingly beautiful. A gentle breeze blew through the air, refreshing and gentle.
Xiao Bai walked through a field covered in wild grass. Dewdrops, left by a light rain, swayed gently on the grass leaves by the roadside, rolling down like pearls and landing on his waterproof canvas shoes, like tiny pearls dotting his shoes. Xiao Bai lifted his foot and gently shook off the water droplets.
Behind the mountain was a continuous mass of hills, rising and falling, deep and far away. Winding paths twisted and turned, like ribbons, winding around the hills and creeping up. From afar, Xiao Bai, walking on the country road, looked like a tiny ant on a yellow ribbon of emerald green sculpture. Suddenly, one of the advancing ants stopped and shouted towards the distance:
"Dad, did you catch the queen bee? Mom called you home for dinner, but the food is cold!"
Father Xiao was standing under the walnut tree, wrestling with the queen bee with a net bag, coaxing her softly while doing so:
"Little darling, come into my net bag quickly. I'll take you home. There's nothing to eat or drink outside. Why do you always run outside?"
"Dad, I was your sweetheart a few days ago, but today it's become your sweetheart? You're talking to it so kindly, but it doesn't understand."
"Don't talk nonsense, my dear, you can understand me. Don't tell me to run away. Go away and don't get in the way."
"Okay, okay, yesterday you said I was your baby, but today you're telling me to get out of here..."
"What are you mumbling about? Let's go home."
Father Xiao collected the net bag containing the queen bee and a group of bees, slowly covered the opening of the net bag, and then led the way home.
"Dad, why does the queen bee always run outside? Is it because domestic flowers are not as fragrant as wild flowers?"
"Go away, kid, what nonsense! Bees are the most intelligent creatures. They will move to a better environment, like a nice garden or a place with beautiful flowers. If they think their original environment is not good, they will move to a better place."
"So, she doesn't like the wooden beehive you made for her."
"Go away, beehives can keep out the wind and rain, how can they be worse than sleeping outside in the open? You haven't experienced hardship before and you're thinking of running away. It's just like you. I told you not to go to school so far away and to find a job close to home, but you refused to listen. You insisted on saying that young people should go out and try their luck. It's so easy for people with no money and no background to make a living out there. Now you have to go back home. Although you can't make much money in your hometown, it's stable. Isn't the purpose of life to have three meals a day and a stable life?"
"I know, I know. I've heard it so many times that my ears are callused. Everyone has different ideas and pursuits. Shouldn't young people go out and try their luck?"
"Is it so easy out there? Look how difficult it is out there now. Dad has been there before."
"I know, I know. It's not peaceful out there. I'm back!"
Mr. Xiao was walking forward while holding a net bag filled with bees. Suddenly, he felt that the bees in the net bag suddenly flew up. At first he didn't care, but slowly, the force pulling the net bag upwards became stronger and stronger.
Suddenly, the bees in the net bag took off with all their might, carrying Mr. Xiao, who was holding the net bag, off the ground. Mr. Xiao screamed in fear.
"My dear baby, don't fly, don't fly, you're pulling me away, ahhhhh, why are you so strong!"
"Dad!" When Xiao Bai saw his father being dragged away by the bees in the net bag, he flew over without thinking. He wanted to hug his father's waist, but the middle-aged man's beer belly was too greasy and slippery, and he couldn't hold on. Fortunately, he grabbed his father's belt when he slid down.
"Dad, please don't drink any more. I can't even hold onto your beer belly that's been there for the past 4-5 months!"
"Ahhh!!! My pants are going to fall off, they're going to fall off! Hurry up and grab me! Ahhhhh, darling, stop flying!"
