Chapter 121: An Explanation Must Be Given
The hospital corridor was dimly lit and a little crowded. We were surrounded by a group of emotional and indignant family members of the injured.
They gathered in a circle and demanded that I immediately compensate for the medical expenses and mental damages.
"You can't just leave like this! You must give us an explanation!" the middle-aged man shouted angrily.
My eyes were a little flustered, but because my mother was beside me, I forced myself to stay calm.
I tried to explain: "Everyone, please calm down. The matter has not been investigated thoroughly, so we can't jump to conclusions. My mother didn't push anyone down the stairs intentionally. We need to wait for the results of the police investigation."
The families of the injured seemed to be so excited that they didn't listen to her at all.
They insisted that my mother was responsible and demanded compensation.
Emotions are running high and conflict could break out at any moment.
Song Le, who happened to be getting medicine in the hospital, saw this scene and rushed forward to stand in front of me and my mother, trying to separate the two sides with his body.
He shouted: "Everyone please calm down, we are all reasonable people. There will always be a fair solution to the problem."
"Stop talking nonsense and pay the money."
"This kind of person should die. Why is she still alive and well?"
…
The other side was numerous and emotional, and would not listen to any advice.
I don’t know who quietly notified the reporters to come over, hoping to use the power of the media to defend the rights of the victims.
Several reporters with microphones and cameras came running over from a distance and squeezed into the crowd, starting to ask questions and report.
"Excuse me, are you the person involved? Can you tell us what happened at that time?"
The reporter handed the microphone to Gu Mo, trying to obtain first-hand information.
"Ms. Gu, your quality of life has plummeted since your divorce. Do you regret it?"
"What do you think about your mother's murder?"
…
Faced with the reporter's questioning, I frowned. These people were deliberately targeting me.
"I'll say it again, no one can convict my mother before the matter is resolved."
"You can't just convict my mother right now, why can't you wait for the results of the investigation?"
The reporters obviously didn't want to hear this, and their microphones and cameras moved closer and closer.
Almost to my mouth.
I turned my head and looked at the group of people who had lost their minds due to anger, and my heart was filled with powerlessness.
But I must insist on this.
My mother is not guilty and she refuses to admit it!
"This is just your one-sided statement, Miss Gu. You keep saying that you want to wait for the results of the investigation. Do you really want the government to conduct a thorough investigation, or are you just using your connections?"
The reporter's sharp words made the family members even more agitated.
When I heard this, my face turned pale and I clenched my fists: "As a worker, I'm afraid I don't have that much ability. Besides, I can make all the details of the investigation public. If the situation you mentioned happens, I, Gu Mo, will not have a good death!"
"But, what if the reason you said this was just to stir up trouble so that your news stories would be more interesting? How about you quit the journalism industry permanently after the investigation finds my mother innocent?"
The reporter was speechless and shrank back as he took back the microphone.
But even so, the people around her pushed her aside and rushed to the front.
For a moment, the scene was extremely chaotic.
The nurses at the nurses' station heard the noise and rushed over to stop the reporters and the troublemakers.
Song Le frowned, and seeing this, he pulled me aside and whispered to me, "This is not a solution. How about I help pay some money first and calm things down first?"
I shook my head firmly and refused in a slightly anxious voice: "No! If we pay the money before the matter is settled, wouldn't it be the same as admitting that my mother pushed someone down the stairs? We can't do this."
"Song Le, thank you for what you did just now, but this matter has nothing to do with you, you should leave quickly!"
I glanced at the crowd of people behind me and felt a little overwhelmed. Then I looked at Song Le and pushed him away.
I turned to the injured person's family, bowed deeply, and said in a firm and sincere tone: "Please believe me, once the matter is thoroughly investigated, if it is really our responsibility, we will definitely not shirk responsibility. We will definitely compensate what is due, but now please give us some time to let the truth come to light."
During this time, I heard Song Le's phone ringing continuously. It was obvious that he had urgent matters to deal with.
I looked at him, my heart full of gratitude and apology: "Song Le, you go back first, I'm here. Your business is also very important, and you can't delay it because of me."
Song Le hesitated for a moment, but the phone call was urgent, so he nodded reluctantly.
Before leaving, he looked at us deeply, turned around and squeezed out of the crowd.
As soon as Song Le left, people from the security department came and took the man under control.
Although the other party is emotionally unstable, he doesn't dare to cause us trouble for the time being.
This gave me some breathing room.
The rapid spread of news caused things to ferment quickly.
Before I could deal with it, Jiang Yichen called first.
As soon as the call was connected, I heard a strong sense of blame and indifference: "Why did you get into trouble again? What happened this time?"
I was already feeling wronged because I was misunderstood and besieged by everyone, and when I heard Jiang Yichen's questioning, my mentality collapsed instantly.
I didn't want to show my weakness in front of Jiang Yichen, so I gritted my teeth, suppressed the grievance in my heart, and choked up to retort: "Jiang Yichen, you wrongly accuse me without knowing anything!"
Feeling a mixture of anger and grievance, I hung up the phone and ran to the hospital stairwell alone.
After everything around me became quiet, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.
A few minutes later, I calmed down and returned to the nurses' station.
When I walked to the nurses' station, I saw a scene that gave me a headache.
The relatives of the injured were besieging my mother, and although the nurses tried their best to stop them, it was of no avail.
My mother stood there helplessly, like a frightened child, her face full of fear and pain, and she kept saying, "I'm sorry."
“It’s really not me.”
"I don't."
…
It looked like that group of people were crazy and wanted to eat people, punching and kicking.
I immediately rushed over and stood in front of her.
I used my body to protect her, but the fists rained down on me.
Although I tried my best to resist, I was ultimately outnumbered.
I was quickly pushed to the ground and someone kicked me twice.
The nurses around hurriedly called for help, but due to the chaos in the scene, no one dared to help easily.
I curled up my body and clenched my teeth, enduring the pain and humiliation, waiting for rescue.
My mother rushed forward and wanted to help, but was pushed away again and again. She could only shout helplessly from behind.
"Stop hitting me, Momo."
"Stop fighting."
…
Just as my mother was in despair, Jiang Yichen suddenly appeared at the stairs. His voice was cold and powerful, like a gust of cold wind that penetrated the chaotic scene: "Stop!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a group of bodyguards suddenly appeared and surrounded them.
His appearance suddenly quieted down the arrogant family members, and they all looked at him.
Jiang Yichen walked closer step by step, his eyes revealing unquestionable determination.
