Chapter 127: The Father's Fault

Chapter 127: The Father's Fault

At my father's urging, Gu Bai finally turned his gaze away from Jiang Yichen and stared at me, but still said nothing.

The atmosphere became awkward for a while, and I felt like I was sandwiched between two stone slabs, almost unable to breathe.

In order to ease the embarrassment, I kept winking at Gu Bai, hoping that he could understand my difficulties.

Finally, after a long silence, he said calmly: "Thank you."

I breathed a sigh of relief and secretly felt lucky that the embarrassment was finally resolved.

My heart is filled with regret at this moment. Why did I let Jiang Yichen send me back? This situation really puts me in a dilemma.

In order to ease the atmosphere, Dad deliberately asked Jiang Yichen to chat about everything, from the weather to work, to the trivialities of life, trying to narrow the distance between him and Jiang Yichen.

Although I was anxious, I didn't want to interrupt her again, so I went to the kitchen to help my mother, trying to divert my attention by being busy.

In the kitchen, I looked back to the living room from time to time and saw my mother asking me about Jiang Yichen with her eyes.

I shook my head helplessly and whispered, "Mom, what are you thinking about? She's already engaged."

But my mother whispered, "You can get divorced after getting married, let alone an engagement."

I was shocked and quickly stopped her.

"Don't mention this during dinner, otherwise it will be embarrassing for everyone." My mother agreed, but I was still very worried.

After the meal was ready, the family sat down next to each other. I deliberately sat next to Jiang Yichen, and Gu Bai sat on the other side of me.

Both men exuded a very low aura, which made me feel so nervous that I dared not even breathe.

I looked at the table full of dishes but didn't start eating, which led to my parents not starting to eat either.

I gently nudged Jiang Yichen, signaling him to eat faster.

Unexpectedly, he suddenly sighed and said, "We were sitting together as a family to have a nice meal, but I didn't expect it to be in such a situation."

After hearing this, my parents looked a little embarrassed and awkward.

Dad quickly stood up and poured a glass of wine, raised it high, and said apologetically: "We were wrong before. Gu Mo was raised in wealth by us since she was a child, and she was a little spoiled. We were really too harsh on you. It is said that the father is at fault for not teaching the son well. I apologize to you here."

My mother also echoed: "It's all our fault. We didn't treat you well before. Now you can repay us with kindness. Thank you so much."

Jiang Yichen looked at the wine in his glass, then looked at the two old men, frowned, but did not say much. Instead, he drank the wine in the glass.

I was sitting aside and watching this scene, feeling even more uneasy, not knowing how this dinner would end.

Just then, a rapid phone call suddenly broke the quiet air.

I happened to be sitting next to Jiang Yichen, so I could easily catch a glimpse of the caller ID on the phone screen - Lin Nan's name was clearly visible.

Faintly, I caught a few words coming from the other end of the phone, mentioning that Jiang Yichen's company seemed to have encountered an unexpected change, and Lin Nan was waiting downstairs in my house at this moment.

Jiang Yichen's brows were instantly furrowed. He slowly turned his head and glanced at me sharply. His eyes seemed to contain endless doubts and questions - how did Lin Nan know that he was in my house?

However, he never expressed his doubts directly, but just said in a perfunctory tone: "There is something urgent at the company, I am afraid I have to leave first."

"It's okay, it's okay," my parents quickly comforted me, "Since the company has something to do, you should go back quickly and don't delay the work."

My parents also quickly stood up and politely saw him off.

At this point, the dinner, which was originally filled with a tense and exciting atmosphere, finally came to an end.

However, I was secretly wondering how Lin Nan knew that Jiang Yichen was in my house?

I don't have the time to guess this or that.

This month’s live broadcast time has not yet been fully utilized. After hurriedly finishing the dinner, I rushed back to the company without stopping to prepare to start a new round of live broadcast.

As soon as I arrived at the company gate, I was stopped by Lin Nan.

I looked at her suspiciously, thinking to myself, "What do you want to talk to me about?"

Lin Nan lectured me unhappily: "Ms. Gu, since you are divorced, please stay away from Jiang Yichen and don't cause trouble for him in the future."

"I really don't understand what you mean. What do you mean I caused him trouble? We are already divorced." This is not the first time that Lin Nan has warned me like this. Even though I am usually gentle, I also have my own bottom line and temper.

"You also know that you are divorced, so why do you still need his help with your family matters?" Lin Nan's words were clearly questioning.

Speaking of this, I can't help but feel a little guilty. After all, my mother's problem was indeed solved with the help of Jiang Yichen.

"Do you know how much trouble your behavior has brought to Jiang Yichen? His foundation was already shaky, and now he's been implicated by you. Jiang's reputation has been declining." Lin Nan's tone was full of blame.

"That's between you two. What does it have to do with me? I never thought of dragging him down." I retorted.

"But you are now a female anchor under the Jiang Group and also his ex-wife. Do you think your every move will not affect him?" Lin Nan's words were sharp and went straight to the core of the problem.

I was stunned for a moment.

I have always been thinking about how to pay off my debts and how to get rid of Jiang Yichen, but I have never thought about it.

While Jiang Yichen threatened me, he also helped me a lot.

"You mean...you want me to leave, right?"

Although I said this, I felt that Lin Nan not only wanted me to leave here, but also wanted me to leave the company.

It would be best if I never met Jiang Yichen again.

Actually, I can understand it. After all, she is Jiang Yichen's fiancée. She has good manners for not breaking up with me.

"Oh, think about it carefully!"

Lin Nan didn't make the words clear. He just said something coldly and left in a hurry.

I stood there for a long time, not knowing what to say or what to do, but her words kept lingering in my mind.

I was a little absent-minded during the live broadcast.

Come to think of it, I did cause Jiang Yichen a lot of trouble, and there was absolutely no need for him to help her.

Maybe I should really leave here!

Thinking of this, I secretly started looking at job information online.

During this period, my live broadcast work has been somewhat unsatisfactory, but I can only do this...
