Chapter 267 Can You Let Me Go?

Chapter 267 Can You Let Me Go?

After returning home, Gu Bai hurriedly left, using the excuse that he had an emergency at school. He walked quickly to the gate of the community and hailed a taxi.

"Master, let's go to Jinxiu Garden." He gave the address of Li Yunma's home and looked through the car window into the rearview mirror to make sure no one was following him.

The taxi drove into the main road. Gu Bai leaned back in his seat, the voice of Li Yunma on the phone replaying in his mind.

The tone of voice that seemed to be hesitant to speak, and the final "I'm sorry" with a tearful tone, made him feel that things were not that simple.

"Young man, we're here." The driver's voice brought him back to reality.

Gu Bai paid the fare and did not go directly into the community after getting off the car, but went around to the back door.

He remembered that I said that Li Yunma lived in Building 3, so he found a secluded location where he could see the unit door, took out his cell phone and pretended to be waiting for someone.

As night fell, the street lights in the community came on. Gu Bai's legs were numb from standing there, and he finally saw a familiar figure appear at the door of the unit - it was Li Yunma.

She was wearing loose clothes, carrying a shopping bag, and staggering towards the gate of the community. Gu Bai followed quietly, keeping a safe distance.

Li Yunma went to the convenience store at the entrance of the community and bought some daily necessities. Just as she was about to go back, a man wearing a baseball cap suddenly appeared and blocked her way.

Gu Bai quickly hid behind a tree and pricked up his ears to listen carefully.

"Did you receive the item?" The man's voice was very low, but Gu Bai still heard it clearly.

Li Yunma nodded, her face pale: "I...I have done what you said, can you let me go?"

“Not even close,” the man sneered, “Remember, if you dare to play any tricks…” He didn’t finish his words, but the threat was obvious.

Li's pregnant mother trembled all over and nodded repeatedly: "I know, I know..."

The man stuffed an envelope into her hand, turned around and disappeared into the night. Li Yunma stood there for a long time without moving.

Gu Bai secretly took a picture of this scene with his mobile phone. He watched Li Yunma walk back in despair, feeling mixed emotions.

The woman whom I had once helped was now apparently in some kind of trouble.

He decided to continue squatting. This wait lasted for three hours, until late at night. During this time, he sent me a message. In the early hours of the morning, Gu Bai finally made a new discovery. A dark figure sneaked up to Building 3 and stuffed something into the mailbox of Li Yunma's house. Gu Bai quickly took a photo, and after the man left, he quietly went over to check.

There was a brown paper bag in the mailbox. Gu Bai hesitated for a moment, but still took it out. With the help of the light from his phone, he could clearly see the words on it: "See you at the same place tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock."

He put the things back as they were, already having made up his mind.

A few days later, Gu Bai sent me a message: "Sister, look at this."

I clicked on the message and saw a surveillance screenshot. In the picture, a man in a baseball cap was stuffing a brown paper bag into the mailbox of Li Yunma's house.

I immediately called Gu Bai: "What's going on?"

"I suspect that Li Yunma has been threatened," Gu Bai whispered, with a hint of nervousness in his voice, "I have been keeping an eye on her house these past few days and found that someone often sends her things."

My heart sank. “Keep watching, but be sure to pay attention to safety.”

"Don't worry, sister," Gu Bai smiled, his tone more relaxed, "I'm your brother, it won't be that easy for me to get into trouble."

At the same time, Jiang Yichen's investigation also made progress. He sat in the study, looking at the documents in his hands, frowning.

"Momo," he raised his head, his eyes solemn, "I found out that the Jin family has recently been buying a large number of scattered shares of our company."

I was shocked: "What do they want to do?"

"Maybe they want to control the company through the secondary market," Jiang Yichen stood up and paced back and forth in the room, "We must find evidence as soon as possible."

Just then, my cell phone rang. It was a message from Gu Bai: "Sister, I found something, you'd better take a look."

I clicked on the message and saw a video. In the video, Li Yunma was talking to a man in a baseball cap. The man handed her an envelope, and Li Yunma took the envelope and nodded palely.

My heart sank suddenly: "Yichen, look at this..."

Jiang Yichen finished watching the video, his face darkened: "Mother Li Yun was bribed."

“But…” I clenched my fists

"Why would she do that?"

"Maybe they were threatened," Jiang Yichen said in a deep voice, with a hint of coldness in his eyes, "The Jin family has always been unscrupulous."

Just then, Xu Sisi sent a text message, "Sister Mo, the tax bureau is here to check the accounts again!"

I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down: "Are all the accounts ready?"

"I'm ready,"

"Our accounts are clear, and they can't find anything."

I breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good."

The phone rang again. It was Xiao Tiantian calling: "Sister Mo, don't worry, we will definitely get through this!"

I smiled, and a warm feeling welled up in my heart: "Thank you for your hard work."

After hanging up the phone, I looked out the window. The afterglow of the setting sun shone on the glass, reflecting my slightly tired face. But I knew that this battle had just begun.

Previously, the promised meeting with Lin Shu was postponed for a few days.

Now I was going to see her. In the pediatric ward late at night, the smell of disinfectant was pungent, mixed with the intermittent crying of children, like a string of fine needles piercing the eardrums. The lights in the corridor were pale, reflecting the mottled marks on the wall, like some kind of silent accusation.

Li Yun's mother curled up on a bench in the corridor, holding a faded canvas bag tightly in her arms, as if it was her only support. Her figure was thin, as if a gust of wind could blow her away. Her eyes were empty, staring at the floor, as if she was waiting for something, as if she was avoiding something.

When I approached, her body trembled violently, as if she was stabbed by something. The canvas bag slipped from her arms and fell to the ground with a dull sound. The contents of the bag were scattered all over the floor, and several test reports floated out. The dense data and doctor's scribbled handwriting on them were particularly glaring.

"Miss Gu, please leave me alone!" Her voice suddenly rose, trembling with despair. Her knees slammed heavily on the tile floor, making a dull sound. Her forehead banged against the ground again and again, making a thumping sound, as if she was punishing herself in this way, or trying to awaken some long-lost hope.

I walked forward quickly and held her shoulders. Her body was as light as a dead leaf, as if it would break at any moment. The protruding bones on her back rubbed against my palm through the thin hospital gown, like some kind of silent protest. There was an unhealed bruise on the side of her neck, shaped like a mark left by some metal object, with a faint purple tinge at the edge.
