Chapter 1000 Side Story: Evening in the City (63)

Song Wan was not on guard and thought it was just a routine inspection, so she readily agreed.

Lin Zhaojiang came over and asked her what had happened. She briefly explained, but Lin Zhaojiang frowned.

Director Ouyang had personally promised him that she would be the one to conduct the examinations for Song Wan. Why is he now having a student do it?

Besides, it shouldn't be time to perform surgery on Song Wan yet.

Lin Zhaojiang felt a little uneasy, and Song Wan couldn't help but laugh when she saw his nervous look.

"What's wrong?" She gently touched his cheek with her small hand. "You seem unhappy?"

"No, I..."

"Are you worried about me?" she chuckled. "It's alright. The nurse said it's just a very simple follow-up check-up. Director Ouyang didn't have time, so she sent her instead."

"Mm." Lin Zhaojiang nodded.

Song Wan pressed her two thumbs against his forehead, forcefully smoothing out his furrowed brows.

He was amused by her and gently pulled her into his arms.

"Maybe I'm overthinking it," he said softly. "I don't know why, but I tend to overthink anything related to you."

“Then try to think positively,” she said, looking at him. “For example, my stomachache isn’t anything serious, and the checkup results will be good!”

"Yes!" He hugged her tighter, his heart filled with mixed emotions. "It will definitely be alright!"

The next day, Song Wan arrived at the hospital.

The nurse led her into the examination room, drew the curtain, and the dimly lit, enclosed space was filled with the lingering smell of disinfectant.

The nurse put on her gloves and smiled somewhat awkwardly, seemingly afraid of making eye contact with her.

Song Wan lay down on the examination bed and took a few deep breaths to relax her body.

"Ms. Song, please take off your pants and put your legs on this. This examination may... be a little painful. Please bear with it."

"What?" Song Wan was taken aback, then blushed slightly. "Didn't Director Ouyang tell you? I... I'm not married yet."

The nurse bit her lip. "Not married? Ha, really..."

"It's true." Song Wan stood up and explained, "I'm not married, and Director Ouyang didn't give me this kind of examination last time. You've made a mistake!"

The nurse felt the time was right and was about to get the previous test reports when the door to the examination room was suddenly pushed open!

The nurse was startled, and even Song Wan was surprised.

The person who opened the door was Ouyang Lu.

And behind her was Lin Zhaojiang!

The young nurse turned pale with fright, her teeth chattering. She stared at the two of them for a long time before stammering, "T-Teacher, why...why are you here?"

Ouyang Lu looked serious, while Lin Zhaojiang's gaze was even more piercing, radiating an icy aura.

Song Wan was taken aback, then hurriedly ran to his side and asked in a slightly shy voice, "I'm getting a checkup, what are you doing here?"

"Ms. Song, I'm so sorry." Ouyang Lu smiled at her. "Today was supposed to be another patient of mine coming for a follow-up appointment. That patient has been married for several years and has two children. Coincidentally, her name is very similar to yours, so... it was my student who made a mistake. I'm really sorry."

As she spoke, Ouyang Lu took out a medical record with the name "Song Qing" on it. The difference of just one character was indeed easy to confuse them.

“Ms. Song, your examination is scheduled for tomorrow, and I will conduct it personally.” Director Ouyang’s words were firm and resolute. “All your examinations will be conducted by me personally, so please do not trust anyone who calls you to make an appointment, okay? If you need any examinations, I will call you directly.”

"oh……"

Song Wan was completely confused.

She didn't understand what was happening.

Is it really that serious that a nurse got a name wrong? And Director Ouyang's words seemed to have a deeper meaning...

"Wanwan," Lin Zhaojiang said softly, putting his arm around her shoulder, "let's go home."

Song Wan nodded gently.

Lin Zhaojiang led her away, and before they walked out the door, he glanced back at the nurse. His gaze was cold and menacing, sending chills down her spine.

He first took her home, had lunch with her, and then the two of them snuggled on the sofa to watch a movie. It wasn't until the afternoon when she said she was going to the library that he told her he had some company business to attend to.

After taking her to the library, he hurriedly returned to the hospital.

The door to the examination room remained closed.

But the door was heavily guarded, and the nurse remained standing stiffly as he had left, without moving an inch.

When Ouyang Lu saw him, she gave him a polite smile.

"Mr. Lin, you should ask her yourself... Although she is my student, her behavior is really not that of a competent medical professional!"

Lin Zhaojiang sat in a chair, elegantly playing with the lighter in his hand. The room was very quiet, and the silence seemed to freeze the whole world.

The nurse shivered, a chill enveloping her. Under Lin Zhaojiang's stern scrutinizing gaze, this feeling was worse than death.

Finally, she couldn't hold back any longer and knelt down in front of him with a thud.

"President Lin, I'm...I'm so sorry! Please forgive me...I didn't mean to!"

"Forgive me?" Lin Zhaojiang sneered. "Explain yourself clearly, I don't understand. What should I forgive you for? For luring Wanwan here for her examination?"

“Or…” He gave a signal, and immediately one of his men pulled out Song Wan’s medical report from a drawer and slammed it into the nurse’s face.

"Or are you still going to forgive me for showing her these things?!"

"I didn't mean to, I didn't mean to!" The nurse trembled with fear, tears streaming down her face. "Mr. Lin, I really made a mistake, I... I was too tired yesterday and got the patient's name wrong..."

“If you tell me who instructed you to do this, I can consider forgiving you.”

The nurse fell silent and stared at him blankly.

"You're still in your internship," Lin Zhaojiang said coldly. "If you lose this job, how will you support your younger brother who's still in college? If your brother can't go to school, will your parents still consider you their daughter?"

In that instant, the nurse's eyes revealed boundless despair.

After a moment of silence, she uttered each word with difficulty: "It's...it's Young Master Bai. He asked me to find an opportunity to reveal Miss Song's past medical records to her, so that Miss Song would know what kind of person she used to be..."

Lin Zhaojiang's face suddenly darkened.

What kind of compensation did he give you?

"He transferred three thousand yuan to me..."

"Besides this, what else did he say?"

"That's all..." The nurse shook her head. "Young Master Bai just wanted Miss Song to know that she had been pregnant before and had an induced abortion, to let her know that she was... not clean before!"

A surge of anger flashed in Lin Zhaojiang's eyes, and his hands clenched into fists.
