Chapter 1126 Yuanyuan's Love (22)

Huo Jiayuan followed Xiao Rong's footsteps, but her heart remained in the car from before.

She turned back for one last, reluctant look. Meng Yan was still standing there. She couldn't see his face clearly in the darkness, but she could feel his burning gaze following her.

Huo Jiayuan's nose stung with tears, and Xiao Rong's voice rang in her ears again: "Miss, please hurry up!"

She was taken aback.

Xiao Rong was both anxious and amused, "If we were still children, I would love to carry you on my back!"

“Alright, alright,” Huo Jiayuan muttered, “They’re already walking, aren’t they…”

"Is this what you call walking?" Xiao Rong was both amused and exasperated. The little princess's feet seemed glued to the ground; every step she took felt like it weighed a ton.

He knew that she still missed the man not far away.

He sighed softly, patted her shoulder like a brother doting on his sister. "Miss, time is really running out... If you still want to see Mr. Meng after we get home, we'll send someone else..."

Before Xiao Rong could finish speaking, a loud boom was heard on the sea!

The sound was like a demon howling in the darkness. Huo Jiayuan felt dizzy and lightheaded. Along with the loud noise, the earth trembled and a wave of heat rolled in!

The air seemed to ignite instantly, and she felt her skin burning. Just as her mind went blank, a pair of large hands suddenly pulled her over, and the next second she crashed into that firm and familiar chest.

"The ship exploded!" Xiao Rong roared, looking at the sea in shock.

However, at this moment, fragments of the ship exploded and fell from the sky like knives!

Meng Yan shielded Huo Jiayuan with his body. The shards hit his head and back, leaving bloody marks, but they did not harm the little person in his arms in the slightest.

Huo Jiayuan instinctively hugged him tighter; only in his arms could she feel truly safe.

Flames shot into the sky from the sea, turning half the night blood-red. The sound quickly alerted nearby residents, and police swiftly arrived and cordoned off the area.

Everyone present was taken to the police station for questioning.

Huo Jiayuan and Xiao Rong were separated and taken to two separate rooms. However, when the police asked her for some basic information, she stared blankly at them, seemingly still recovering from the shock she had just experienced. Her mind went blank, and she couldn't say anything.

"Miss!" The police officer raised his voice, sounding impatient. "Your name, date of birth, and home address?"

Huo Jiayuan bit her lip, trying to sort out her thoughts from her chaotic mind.

"I, my name is Huo Jiayuan..."

Please show your ID.

"I……"

What identification documents did she have? From the first day Li Mei kidnapped her, her backpack disappeared, and everything she owned was gone.

"You don't have any identification?" The policeman's gaze began to turn suspicious. "Then how did you get to Biandu?"

Huo Jiayuan lowered her head and remained silent.

"Miss, if you can't produce legal documents, we have reason to suspect that you are an illegal immigrant, and this bombing is also related to you!"

The police officer slammed his hand on the table, probably just to make a show of force, and Huo Jiayuan's heart skipped a beat.

"Miss, please cooperate with our investigation!"

However, just then someone knocked on the door, and the police officers outside came in and said a few words to the person inside. The person inside's expression changed slightly, and he glanced at Huo Jiayuan again.

Then, Huo Jiayuan rushed to the front of him and heard a loud groan that blocked the pale light above his head.

She looked up and almost burst into tears.

“Meng Yan…”

"It's alright." Meng Yan smiled and patted her head. "I'm here, don't be afraid."

Huo Jiayuan's tears flowed freely.

She didn't know how she got up from that hard, small stool. She was completely confused, yet she could clearly sense the presence of the person next to her, which gave her confidence and made her feel at ease.

“She is my wife.” Meng Yan said slowly and deliberately, his sharp eyes sweeping over everyone. “We went out for a walk after dinner and happened to be at the dock when we ran into that ship explosion.”

"Is that really true?" The officer still didn't believe it.

However, it was obvious that the officer who had just knocked on the door was of a higher rank than the officer who had interrogated Huo Jiayuan, so despite his suspicions, the man said nothing more.

"Sir," the man thought for a moment, perhaps still unwilling to give up, and continued to ask, "the one in the next room..."

“His name is Xiao Rong, and he’s my wife’s cousin,” Meng Yan said without changing his expression. “He’s here to visit relatives.”

Why are you all at the dock?

"Can't we take a walk on the pier at the same time?" Meng Yan asked with a half-smile, placing his hand on Huo Jiayuan's shoulder and protecting her tightly.

"Is there any law in the border region that states relatives cannot meet in the same place at the same time?"

"this……"

"It's just a coincidence. We have nothing to do with that ship!" Meng Yan said firmly. "Besides, we were just going out for a walk. There's no need for us to carry identification with us. If you need it, come with me to my house to get it!"

"Oh, no need." The police officer outside the door smiled and patted Meng Yan's shoulder lightly. Their eyes met, and everything seemed to be understood without words.

“Ayan is my friend, and I’ve met his wife too,” the officer told the others. “It was just an accident.”

Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment, while Meng Yan, with Huo Jiayuan in tow, left with firm steps.

After leaving the police station, Huo Jiayuan was still in shock. The scene of the ship exploding haunted her mind like a ghost. She felt cold all over and even shivered several times on the hot summer night.

Meng Yan took off his shirt and gave it to her, leaving him only in a vest. His strong arms embraced her tightly.

"Xiao Rong, Xiao Rong!" Huo Jiayuan suddenly remembered, "Xiao Rong is still here..."

“He came out too.” Meng Yan’s voice was low. “I’ve spoken to them all, and they won’t make things difficult for him.”

"You..." Huo Jiayuan was taken aback, "You greeted the people at the police station?"

Meng Yan did not speak, but turned her gaze elsewhere.

Huo Jiayuan frowned. Who could be someone who could greet people in the police station?

Why would the police listen to him? As long as he intervened, they would stop harassing her?

Could it be...?

“Biandu is different from other places.” Meng Yan turned his face, there was something unfathomable in his eyes. “The emperor is far away, and no one can control this place. As for my familiarity with the people in the police station, it’s only because they like to watch me fight in boxing matches, that’s all.”

"Yeah?"

"Mostly." He said calmly, looking at her pale face, a slight tremor running through him. "You must have been terrified tonight?"

Huo Jiayuan leaned forward involuntarily until her head was pressed against his chest, and she felt at ease listening to his heartbeat.

"Let's go home." His voice was tinged with laughter. "I'll cook you something delicious."
